Will you buy from Amazon? |
|
I have just finished a major overhaul with my blog, peppering most entries with relevant Amazon product links. But while I was doing it, a little apprehension set in. I wondered if I was just wasting my time or even worse, making things worse.
The Amazon product links were placed at the end of the entries. My rationale is that if someone is interested enough to read the article, he would likely scan to the end and so see the "ads". And since they are relevant, he might buy the products if he is interested.
But then, I wasn't so unsure. Will anyone buy things from Amazon anyway? I know Amazon is a big company and most people would likely have heard of it. But if it were you, when you see a product item (be it book, music, appliance, whatever) you are interested in, would you actually click and buy the item? I have been featuring a lot of books and they are not expensive at all. The average price is not even 20 bucks.
Yet the whole thing revolves around whether you will buy something through the ad and through Amazon or not. Even if it is just 5 bucks, would you actually buy something from Amazon and/or through ads similar to mine? Please note that I am not trying to beg for purchases here. I am honestly trying to get your opinions with regards to these Amazon ads. So, have you, will you buy from Amazon? I appreciate your inputs on this, thanks!=)
PS.: My blog address is on my profile page if you need it.

2. sherrir101 (2918) | 3 years ago | I just recently bought a book on Amazon. I think, just like the ads on MyLot.com, you will, if you are interested. I have looked through several things that are advertised here. If they show up and are interesting, people look.

3. whiteheather39 (13327) | 3 years ago | I have Amazon, Overstock and Ebay bookmarked. I have used Amazon quite a few times. I usually comparison shop between these 3 sites and then make my choice. I usually know what I need to buy and am not too often influenced or temped to buy just on a stranger's say so. Cash is toooo tight for me just to buy on a whim.

I was looking at digital cameras for my kids for Christmas, and they wanted way to much in my honest not so humble opinion, I ended up going elsewhere.

4. wolfie34 (13863) | 3 years ago | When I was at college I was always buying from Amazon because I saved a fortune, and as Amazon is also a UK outlet then I was happy to do business with them. The books were specialized and in the high street fetched tip top prices, however, compared to amazon the books I got online were much much cheaper, after the first delivery of books I was more than happy, so I continued with them, I have bought books from them and touch wood I have never been disappointed. I only buy from sites that are based or function in the UK.

lordwarwizard (10401) | 3 years ago | Some country loyalty thingy?:P
But I am confused... is there a typo somewhere? Amazon is based in USA. It may have branches in UK but it's an American company.
| |
|
|
wolfie34 (13863) | 3 years ago | Oh I just assumed as it was a co.uk address it was based in the UK as well! I am not loyal, it's just that I prefer to deal and buy in UK currency instead of dollars, it's easier for my wolfie brain! And you have to pay more through paypal rates etc, so I always go for the .uk sites.

5. saigonwarrior (709) | 3 years ago | I have been an affiliate with Amazon for 4 years and added relevant links on all of my sites, past and present.
I have never had one single order. I used to own a ptr and had a link on my homepage, I also ran my shopping site on the site from time to time which had links to Amazon and Linkshare shops. All done tastefully, btw.
So, I do wish you luck with that, because I sure haven't had any:(
I haven't had much luck with any internet endeavor that I have tried to tell you the truth, I am currently investigating Parked Domains to see if a profit might be likely in this area. Probably be as lucrative as everything else I have tried...lol Not very.

|
lordwarwizard (10401) | 3 years ago | This sounds bad, sigh.
I do understand that it is not easy selling things which is one reason why I find it hard to understand why Amazon is successful.:P
For me, I don't really buy things from there because shipping costs a bomb. But I know Amazon offers free shipping for people in the states (or was that during promotions only?). Whichever, shipping in the same country is not so expensive and there are so many people in the states.
I think the first order or first $100 affiliate income is always the hardest. If it will work out once, then my chance will go up. Oh well, what can I do but try.
As for parked domains, the laws are being changed and I read that it is no longer profitable or even safe to do. Be careful.

|
|
saigonwarrior (709) | 3 years ago | Oh incidentally, I shop Amazon frequently. It is where I purchase all our books and we are big readers. They seem to have the best deals on books, music CD's and Video games. If I spend over $25, I normally receive free shipping and I always aim for free shipping.
Yes, I live in the states. So, you know what you have to do, don't you? MOVE!..lol kidding.
Thanks for the heads up on the Parked Domains. I did investigate a bit and it seemed to me that you are trying to trick people into clicking something on your site so that you receive a ppc earning. When I read this, I was not so sure I wanted to get involved with it. I am not sure that it is ethical. Hey! Something will hit, maybe..lol
I will PM you a link and you can tell me what you think, I am thinking of trying this myself. My husband says I am always trying to find get rich schemes on the internet..lol He won't be making fun of me it it happens, now will he? lol

|
lordwarwizard (10401) | 3 years ago | I was thinking about this states thingy too but I realize that it is not really a bed of roses just because you are in the states, or anywhere else for that matter. Every country has its pros and cons.
Yes, regarding the parked domain and tricking people to click something, this is how they do it - they like choosing domain names close to those famous ones. Then they will load up loads up e.g. adsense ads on the page. So when someone type a wrong address accidentally, they will get free impressions on their ads, and maybe some clicks if they are interesting. This is a sideline for them.
| |
|
|
saigonwarrior (709) | 3 years ago | I agree, there is no perfect place to live in this world. No country is without problems. The States just seem to be the place for commerce. It gives the illusion that all we do is shop and have unlimited funds, but this is just not true. Some people shop that don't have any funds at all..lol
Yeah, that is how I understood Parked Domains working. I don't think I would be comfortable promoting a parked knowing this.
Oh well..sigh..back to the drawing board..lol

6. GardenGerty (20272) | 3 years ago | I have not ever bought from Amazon, and right now I am on a bit of a spending hold. On the other hand, Amazon seems to have a good reputation and it seems like a great place to buy. I like books, so it might be a great place to buy books. I hope you ads do well, and I am wishing you much luck. I know you are curious about other people's opinions of Amazon.

7. misheleen73 (3135) | 3 years ago | Well I have a different reason NOT to buy from Amazon. My husband use dhis debit/atm card at a gas station. Apparently "someone" from the station used his card to order from Amazon. When I was calling my bank & Amazon to question said purchases, Amazon was not very helpful in the matter. I resolved to never, ever purchase anything from them again!!
| |
| |
|
|
lordwarwizard (10401) | 3 years ago | Hmm.. I understand such "irrational bias" - I have some of them myself lol.
But regarding your case, I think you should call up your card company/bank instead. But if you file a police report, Amazon should be able to e.g. provide the IP address of the payment session.
On the contrary, I have received very good customer service from Amazon. I have contacted them on various occasions and they were always prompt and polite with their responses. I personally think Amazon is one company with one of the better customer service around. So far.:P
| |
|
|
misheleen73 (3135) | 3 years ago | see. two different experiences. I did contact the card company as well. MY problem was that Amazon was not being cooperative with them either. I didn't want to know who did it from them. We were just trying to get the charges stopped. (my card company & myself) It was clearly not us that ordered the items and we merely wanted to stop the shipment, etc. Anyway, doesn't matter, my experience was bad, yours wasn't.

9. marciascott (11743) | 3 years ago | No, I wouldn't buy anything from Amazon, I have my reasons, any way someone tried to use my name to place others, I don't knw how they did it, but I email Amzon and told them about it. So I just don't want nothing to do with Amazon.

10. sigma77 (4282) | 3 years ago | I have made dozens of purchases from Amazon for several different kinds of products and have not had any problems. I have bought items for a few dollars and some more expensive items as well. I buy mostly used things because they work as well as the new, in many cases. I can often find something I want at a reasonable price. I am not to happy with the shipping costs, but all things considered, I am still saving money for products that are useful to me.

| |
|
|
lordwarwizard (10401) | 3 years ago | I think if it was stated to be new, then it is definitely new - unlike places like eBay - the buyer may claim it is new but I really wouldn't know.
And yes, shipping is always a thorny issue...
