What do you think of all of the poilitcal correctness at Christmas? |
|
We are no longer supposed to say "Merry Christmas" so as not to offend non-christians or those who do not celebrate Christmas. Santas have been told that they can no longer say "HO HO HO" because it may be offensive to women. Personally, I think it's a bunch of crap and political correctness has gotten out of hand. Where do you stand? To be or not to be?

2. lilaclady (19770) | 3 years ago | I think it is absolutely ridiculous, I think people are thinking too deep, and maybe even dirty, we can only go by what we ourselves thought when we were kids and did we think about these things they seem so concerned about, I think these people have suspicious minds and maybe even just searching for their 15mins of fame and this is the only way they can do it, why don't they leave tradition alone for heavens sake...

RebeccaLynn (818) | 3 years ago | I agree. It has gone way too far in every area of life and most people don't think that way to begin with. Santa can't say HO HO HO? What's he supposed to say then?

3. gizmoshere2 (330) | 3 years ago | I say enough is enough. What next rudolph the red nosed reindeer going to be outlawed to. Santa has been HO HO HOing for countless years without problem. It should stay that way. That is what Santa says and thats all there is to it. What about all the songs with HO HO HO in them, are they going to change that to. People have a choice to celebrate christmas and the majority do. People need to lay off Santa and look at what he stands for, like the goodness in people and giving to others. As you probibly have guessed this whole matter ticks me off big time.

RebeccaLynn (818) | 3 years ago | It just seems to me that the minority are able to change how the majority live and the majority just sits back and takes it. It has gotten ridiculous and I am so sick of it! It ticks me off too!

4. HouseKat (725) | 3 years ago | It has gone beyond rediculous! I even hear people having conversations about the damage done to kids when you lie to them about Santa, the Easter Bunny, etc.
Last I checked, in all the generations before us, I have never heard a single person say "I killed my loved one because my parents lied to me about Santa".
I heard about the "Ho Ho Ho" thing too and I think it is about as stupid as you can get.
I have always been sensative to others when I send out holiday cards. Because I have friends and family that celebrate different things in December, and I do not have all the money in the world to buy single cards for everyone, I have always bought "Happy Holidays" cards. However, it stops there for me. I will glad you shout loud and proud...
... MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!
:o)
Next we will be told that we cannot say "bless you" to someone when they sneeze!

That should read "I will gladly shout, loud and proud..."

RebeccaLynn (818) | 3 years ago | LOL! I would be amazed to hear how someone was damaged by the childhood belief in Santa or the Easter Bunny. To me, those things are part of the magic of childhood. By the way...MERRY CHRISTMAS!

And last but not least "you can please some of the people all the time, and all the people some of the time, but you can't please all the people all the time" LEAVE CHRISTMAS AND SANTA ALONE!

6. kitchenwitchoftupper (1379) | 3 years ago | The Ho Ho Ho is not one I had yet heard yet either. Can you tell me what they are now saying? On the other hand, I really don't find it offensive or difficult for any of us to say "Happy Holidays"! Even if you are a Christian and celebrate Christmas, Happy Holidays could still be taken to incorporate Christmas Eve, Christmas, New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day. America has always been called the "melting pot" for people of all races; and with that in mind, I don't see that it causes harm to be just a bit considerate of everyone's feelings at this time of year. To me that's what the spirit of Christmas is. I know, a big "Boo Hiss" to me. But I promise I am not trying to be a grinch. I love everything there is about the entire holiday season.~Donna

RebeccaLynn (818) | 3 years ago | I agree with being considerate of other people's feelings...so why aren't the feelings of those who say - and have always said- Merry Christmas not being considered? Sure, I'll sometimes say Happy Holidays but when you think about it would there be a Christmas without the birth of the child born on that date? He's been kicked out of everything else in this country. Now his own birthday? It's CHRISTMAS. So yes, being PC is sometimes BS.

8. aidenofthetower (1528) | 3 years ago | Political correctness has been an issue for awhile. Any writer who has had to type out he or she, him or her, knows that it is just crazy. People are too easily offended and over stupid things. On the same note, the Christian radio station was trying to gather up people to boycott stores that were saying Happy Holidays instead of Marry Christmas. That also seems a bit much. Originally Happy Holidays was used to include a variety of holidays that happened in December, including New Years which is just around the corner.
A good book that makes fun of political correctness is The Story of the Politically Correct Snowperson.

RebeccaLynn (818) | 3 years ago | Too much time is being spend arguing with each other over what we can and can't say. What happened to freedom of speach or live and let live? Boycotting stores for saying Happy Holidays is just as stupid as telling me that I can't say Merry Christmas or telling Santa not to say HO HO HO! We are too much of a touchy, feely society.
