My husband's Politically correct employer  

Just as we Christians love to refer to parties around this time as Christmas parties, other people love to focus on the fact that there's a new year around the corner. It's not political correctness. It is called a 'difference in focus'.

Ours is still being called a Christmas party, but it always takes place after Christmas. This year it will be on the 29th. It is a bowling, buffet, and drinks and socializing thing. There will be door prizes, and gifts.

I would call it Christmas or Holiday party. His employer is way too far politically correct.
Maybe the next year it will be The Year Start Bonus Drinking and Eating.......

What in the world?! I understand people wanting to appease everyone and be politically correct, but come on now. Some things are just ridiculous. We aren't having a Christmas party at my job, but if we were, it would definetely be called a Christmas Party and not A Year End Event....wow!! *sigh - throws hands up*

All this politcally correct stuff is being carried way to far. I couldn't believe it when I read here on myLot they're thinking about banning the term HO HO HO when talking Santa Claus language. That's ridiculous.

I work at Target and we are not even having a Christmas party and that is just fine with me.

what's the big deal with the name? the more important thing is that he is around, the camaraderie, his presence...

Yes, talk of political correctness and this is the height as far as I have heard. What infuriates me about these types are that they create a lot of unwanted and undesired mess by their myopic vision yet when trouble starts they just manage to escape somehow and people like us, who know a spade for a spade, get into all sorts of difficulties. I fully sympathise and agree with your husband. Here in India we have different religions and festivities attached to them and we call them accordingly. We have Diwali Parties and Bijoya Parties in Hindu majority offices, we have Iftar Parties in Muslims majority offices and in Christian areas we have Christmas Parties too. Similarly we have New Year Parties. It just depends on the budget of the office and the preference of the employer and the employees. In anyone doesn’t want to attend, its understandable and acceptable too. The food and drinks are also arranged keeping in mind the religious sentiments of the different people. So I think its completely weird to call a Christmas Party as a Year End Party.

I'm not an employer to any offices, but I have a part time job as teaching ballroom dances and one of our requirement is to attend some parties and social gathering in any offices specially this coming Christmas. And most of their parties begins at the 10th up to 25th of the month and they called it Christmas party if they celebrate after the Christmas day they called it post Christmas party. We do not used year end party coz they usually celebrate it in the middle of the month.

"The Year End Event"? To paraphrase my late grandmother, he sounds like a real horse's rear end. When I was still working we still had a Christmas party and we still actually told everyone "Merry Christmas". How politically incorrect of us! This is getting totally ridiculous.
