I'm telling you , if this is "the word of the year", this country is in sad shape! I have never heard this word before, granted I'm not a game player either or even around that kind of group, but come on...all the words and this is THE word? I'd laugh if I wasn't already crying! http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071211/ap_on_re_us/word_of_the_year What word would you have chosen?

Truthiness is a rather cute word, but as the English prof said, w00t appeals to much to small a community to represent a whole nation. If a country is going to waste time chosing a word of the year, in my opinion, it should be as thoughtfully chosen as the state flowers or birds, or even the US Eagle, which had Benjamin Franklin had his way would have been a turkey instead. It should be a lofty and respectable word that represents all of the people, or at very least something that all of the people could, or would, or should aspire to be, such as "courageous" or considering the people are getting all revved up for a new election, how about "mellifluous"--!?

I had no idea that was a "real" word! I see it on Squidoo occasionally, in a comment or in a note from Squidoo. I thought they made it up, sort of like how they made up Squidoo, with the double-o's. Word of the year, though. That's pretty amazing since probably at bare minimum most of the older half of the population has never even heard of it before. I think "work" should be the word of the year. Get off those video games and get some work done, kiddos!

I'm for a real word too, 52cents! Something that can pertain to all, known by all, means something reasonably intelligent and is at least pronouncable by all! Seperating the population into sections and accomodating only one, how un-politically correct is that!

I would want to change that to lol. Lots of Laughs. I read this phrase every where I go in the internet. I think it should be the word of the 007. I read the post to your link and I can't find anywhere what those letters mean. Do you know what they mean? Can you share it with me so I understand more why they picked this word. I can't believe this would even make an article. I guess people have to find something to write about.

My discussion got sent twice - don't know how that happened! But the word means: "W00t," a hybrid of letters and numbers used by gamers as an exclamation of happiness or triumph" I didn't think a word could have numberical features in it! So Iguess next time you are happy or triumphal - you say "WOOt"! Well, you can say it, I'm not gonna!
