Which one is really distracting you from the real meaning of Christmas? Isn't it eerie how their names are almost exactly the same? I say that this is the work of satan himself. He is very good at disguising himself as soon kind of light in the world. But, we are aware of his devices and we will rebuke him on every hand.
If we are going to set aside December 25 as the day that Jesus was born. Then let us keep it the way. Personally, I am down right offended by this concept of santa claus. I mean it is really lame and childish if you think about it long enough.
Let's begin to bring the real meaning of Christmas back this year. Starting right here. Jesus is the reason for the season. Let's give glory to God for sending his son to save us. Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace, goodwill(God's favor) toward men. We still have time to make this Christmas the best one we have ever had. Praise HIM!!!!!

Dear, 'Santa' actually means 'saint' and is a reference to Saint Nicholas who was a very benevolent Christian. All the 'encomiums' that have been added to the legend of Saint Nick were contributed by children. The most important reason for the season, truly, is Christ. However, love, joy and peace should come with a little bit of light-heartedness as embodied in the Santa Clausian legend.

Have it your way, "Dear."

Rozie, I don't want to have it my way. I just want to contribute. I will be happy to read a suggestion that sounds better than mine or at least teaches me something new. I'm sure there will be a lot of that as more people respond to this discussion.

What you have to understand is that no matter how good things may seem when they start out, if it takes anything from God at all, it is of the devil. Are you aware that December 25 was originally a pegan holiday and Jesus was not even born in the winter.
The Bible says that the shepards were keeping watch over the sheep. This was not done in the winter, because it was too cold. Satan has caused Santa to be put above Jesus. If we are going to celebrate Jesus on the 25 of December, then let it be just about Jesus. Christmas trees and santa, and all that other mess has nothing to do with Jesus. Have do you think God feels about this make believe santa?

myLot reputation of 90/100. ojassa (546)   ranked 1,162 out of 38,541 in life  3 years ago

I don't believe anybody can take anything from God, certainly not a child's concept of the spirit of giving symbolized in a legendary saint. I have heard a lot of how some believers think the Catholic church is satanic because it altered the dates of the Christian calender. Our God is not a God of confusion. At the time that these things were done, they were necessary because Satan and the children of God were in a battle for souls. In those days, the exact date on which Jesus was born was not the issue. The issue was whether He could fit into the lives of people who already believed in miracles but did not understand virgin birth. Those missionaries had a very hard time and we should understand them. How, for example, do you tell people to stop human sacrifices when you want to explain to them that Christ was a living sacrifice? We have to weigh these issues carefully. Christ Himself had many of these instances where people wondered why He sometimes did certain things on the Sabbath( healing and letting His disciples harvest and eat corn). For Him, the date or time is not what is important. It is whether people are brought closer to God. He who is not against us is for us. If Santa Claus is doing good deeds on a day that God's son is supposed to be born, then He is for us.

Hi Rosie, what ever made you think of bringing up and comparing these two names?Yes they are similar, but what devilish mood made you think of comparing the two?LOL.......

I do not celegrate christmas, for the simple reason that I am not a christian....But I do respect all religions and was educated in a convent and used to take part in the mass at the chapel and in christmas celebrations in the church, located in my school.....

Yes I do agree with your views on santa claus.....Perhaps it was a story meant to give some hope for kids, and to make then happy and hoping......

Happy christmas to you,Rosie and may you have a prosperous year ahead.....

You have to do research. December 25 was originally a pegan holiday. What does santa claus and a Christmas tree have to do with Jesus being born to die for the world?
Now, Christians also celebrate Easter. What does the Easter bunny have to do with my savior dying on the cross for my sins. Do you see a pattern here? Every day the has been set aside to honor Jesus has been turned into a holiday free for all, for everyone. The Bible instructs Christian to come out from the world and be separate, this is exactly what I am doing.

Well if you want to talk about pagan practices taking over Christian practices, try Halloween. It is supposed to be All Souls Day and All Saints Day. Here in my country we visit our dearly departed and pray for them. But I'm starting to see kids dressing up in scary costumes, going house to house asking for candies. I think pagans call it "trick or treat."

You are right about that wisedragon, that is one of the worst that we have totally ruined.

I do not have anything against giving gifts for Christmas, but this saint nick or whomever he was and this make believe santa is not what Christians should be celebrating. It is the Catholics who worship saints. We as Christians know that there is only one God that we serve.

You can celebrate anyway you like, but as I've told many people, be careful what you wish for. If Christmas goes back to being just a celebration of the birth of Jesus, it will lose it's status as a national holiday. You will no longer get a guaranteed day to be with friends and family. It will be just as it was before 1870, when almost everyone had to work and go to school on Christmas.

Santa, or rather, the entire secular branch of Christmas is what allows everyone to celebrate Christmas with their family. So respect the right of folks to celebrate Christmas in a secular fashion, or be prepared for your holiday to be taken off the national holiday list. The Supreme Court already tried a few years ago - but Santa managed to save Christmas.

That said, I realize you think Christmas should be about the birth of Jesus. If that's your preferred method of celebration, then by all means, celebrate it as the birthday of Jesus. However, some of us prefer the secular side of it. Some of us prefer the 'spend time with family', and 'good will towards man' part more than the 'birth of the savior part'.

Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year.

myLot reputation of 80/100. Rozie37 (7158)   ranked 2,561 out of 38,541 in life  3 years ago

I am willing to sacrifice all that Christmas has become to celebrate the birth of my savior. He is worth it all. When I think of where I might be if he had not come to die for me, there is nothing in this world too precious for me to give up for Jesus.

Hi Rozie my dear friend!

I do agree with you completely on having Jesus as the center of Christmas celebration. All thanks and praises I offer Him not only on Christmas but I try very hard in each and every day.
Personally, I have nothing against Santa because I believe that he symbolizes the love and generosity being given especially for children every Christmas. However, what makes it all wrong is when commercialism uses Santa as marketing strategy making people believe that we can only make our love ones happy by buying them special gifts. However, for some that may be true. Gifts can be tokens of how much they appreciate one person. I guess, it all boils down on how we perceive things. If we see it bad then there is nothing wrong with that because that is your own convictions and if I see it is good because of the fruits that it produce, then I believe it is good for me. I do respect your beliefs my friend and I have known from the discussions that you have posted here, I truly believe you are a good person and a very sensitive one. I admire you for standing by your convictions and at the same time have admired you for always respecting mine. So, I feel lucky that I can truly talk to you regardless of disagreeing or not.

Just my thoughts. Take care and have a nice day my dear friend!:)

I believe I understand that you are saying that Santa is only as important as we make him. I can live with that. I still believe that Santa is a tool that the devil uses to get the Christians mind off of what Christmas is really about.
There is never any other time during the year when the line between the Christian and the secular world. All I am saying is that we need to stand out and let our lights shine at all times.

Thank you Rozie for this. I've been called a spoiler of Christmas and a grinch all because I don't endorse the santa theory to my children. I agree that the season's focus is too much on "What did santa bring me." Whatever happened to a day of thanks for Christs gift to us? God made in the flesh. His gift to guide and give new light. If anything, it's a celebration of Jesus and God's great gift to us.

Thank you so much for your response. I was starting to feel very alone in my stand, but you know, I would have kept standing anyway.

myLot reputation of 93/100. ljegbers (5761)   ranked 308 out of 38,541 in life  3 years ago

I'm sorry you felt so lonely on your stand. Here there are so much argumentative things in this discussion - that I didn't even respond to, but I was negatively rated for just responding to this discussion.

I think that it's pretty sad when you have a preson do that, especially when it comes to anything they don't agree on.

Have you ever considered that others might have an opinion that doesn't match yours or your beliefs. I believe I was given an intelligent mind to make my own judgments on how I believe and think. And if I want to tell my children about Santa Clause I will, you are of course have the right to celebrate in you own manner and own fashion. I am sure there is something about lest not judge others.

myLot reputation of 80/100. Rozie37 (7158)   ranked 2,561 out of 38,541 in life  3 years ago

Actually, this dicussion should not offend you at all. This is for the people who can be blessed by this. I have expressed my opinion and you have expressed yours and we can agree to disagree.

Well i think (not to offend you) but you;re going a little bit extreme.
Santa satan, levi, evil i can continue to do that too,but do you actually think people did that by purpose? That's like extreme thinking. You;re going way to deep.
I could go deeper too and in fact Jesus wasn't then born in december but in october or november because in the december cold the animals would have died.
So please don;t let it control you because things like these can drive you insane.
Just like humans who are called damian people say he's the son of the devil that's really extreme thinking when you would say every child with that name is a devils son.
We ourselves are relating christmas to gifts instead of the birth of jesus which means we are being selfish right?
And we do celebrate in church the birth of Jesus so there's no problem right?

myLot reputation of 80/100. Rozie37 (7158)   ranked 2,561 out of 38,541 in life  3 years ago

You are entitled to your own opinion and beliefs. I expressed mine and you have expressed yours and we can agree to disagree without being enemies. It is just a debate. For the record, I know that Jesus was not born on December 25, but if we are going to choose that day to celebrate his birth. Why smother it with so much other nonsense.

I think you have a great point, but I'm glad you're not raising my kids. My 14 year old son told me the other day that he doesn't believe in a strange fat guy breaking in to the house and leaving his "random junk out of his dirty sack", then stealing the milk and cookies. I got pretty upset and told him that I raised him better than that. I always told my kids that Santa really existed way back when and generations have kept him alive. Santa is our way of giving without the customary 'Thank You' being expected. I thought my kids understood that. I guess commercialism took the spirit out of Santa. Christianity is losing nothing by believing in Santa, only in distorting the reality. As long as Santa doesn't become someone to worship (which he hasn't in my house), I don't think God minds sharing the spotlight. I'm almost 34 & I'll be surprised if Santa doesn't leave me a goodie or two.

Religion is probably the worst subject to discuss because everyone has their own ideas and nobody is ever wrong.

Santa Claus has been around since way before I was born, and while I agree that Jesus is the reason, I always taught my kids that Santa was not real, just a fun side to the Christmas holidays just like the Easter Bunny is not the reason for Easter. I do not like it when others use merry x-mas, I always say Christ-mas and mention it as often as I can b/c it seems the media and the big companies are trying to force us to have only holiday trees, decorations, celebrations, etc. and not Christ-mas trees, decorations, celebrations. Merry Christmas my friend.
