It depends on what kind of egg it is. You can reduce the time it takes to hatch by half if you hold a pokemon with flame body or magma armor. For example Magmar has flame body. You can go to www.serebii.net to find out exactly how many steps it takes for a particular pokemon to hatch.

Well usually it takes from 1000-6000 steps depending on the egg, redk55.

BUT you must remember, redk55. You will get a bad egg if you have done the codes incorrectly. Your 1st current pokemon in your first box must be move.{only the AR/GS SP codes that you get pokemon from your box.} It will take two mouths to hatch it. Once you hatch it, game will freeze. Don't try to save far away from the PC while if you have any bad egg in your party, your game will be stuck forever. Sometimes, the fainted bad egg can turn into pokerus.
