Extreme Wind!! It really is extreme!

We have a wind advisory all day here in MI and it's been pretty bad. Going to and from the stores we found we had to hold on to our doors so they didn't blow open and hit another car, and hold on to our purchases so they didn't blow away. Well tonight it seemed no one had their garbage out. I thought it was because of the holiday season, but I checked our city website and it said trash collection is normal tonight so we put ours out with a ton of boxes. Well... I went out there about an hour later and all the boxes were gone! Nowhere to be seen. The bags were starting to move too b/c of the wind so I tied them all together for leverage. I saw some other people put their garbage out finally, but things are blowing over all over the place. To make a long story short, what are you supposed to do when the weather is bad and you have garbage? I feel bad that my boxes are now blown wherever (god knows where, I couldn't even see any all the way down the street when I looked!). We just didn't even think about this when we were putting it out. My garbage is still staying in front of my house since I tied it, but I fear they will blow down the street too. I can't keep all that garbage in my house over the holidays b/c I have people coming. What I'm thinking is, every city needs to adopt those large wheeled garbage cans. My mom's city has them and you just fill it up, whell it out, and it stays put even in the wind. The truck can then lift and dump it. What do you think and what would you do? Still put your garbage out or no? Perhaps we should have waited until morning but who wants to be outside doing garbage tasks at 7:30 in the AM on a cold day?

It's been pretty bad up here too. Unfortunately it's not garbage day until after Christmas, so everything's sitting outside. We don't have a garage to put it into. So I went out earlier and notice all the boxes of books that were to be picked up last week were blown over. We're talking boxes of 45 catalogues, about 20lbs each, blown over. Of course it's also been raining and they're all soggy. If I could leave garbage inside I would, but I don't have that option.

Oh that really stinks. I hope there isn't boxes and box stuffings all over the streets, but I figure with the wind being so bad it's likely they are very far away from me by now and I'll never see them. I wish that there was a way we could dump our garbage ourselves during situations like this... like a big garbage bin where I could stash it, but there aren't any that I know of around here.

Not all over the place thankfully, but it could have been different. I'm just glad that I didn't have a huge mess to clean up as it was pretty cold.

AHH! That's scary. I think they call that a White Out. I've been in one of those before and my mom and I had to pull off the first exit we could and sit in a parking lot. It was scary b/c we couldn't see if anyone was behind us. We could see someone in front of us but they were driving too fast for us to keep up since we were cautious.

We have those big garbage cans and we live in a windy area and even they blow around if the wind is strong enough! We try to wait until the last moment to take the trash out if it is really bad.

Yeah we were dumb b/c this was the first wind I've seen like this in forever! I really didn't even think about it when my husband was taking the garbage out b/c it wasn't that bad at the time.
