It is a very bad practice to leave your parents in an old age home. One simple question that answers this is were you kept in an orphanage when you were young if not then why should your parents be moved to an old age home when they are old? I would always keep my parents with me.

Hi bishu_sinha, am Ugandan and we value our old people so much that we cant afford to push them to the homes of the elderly. Look here, the idea of having children is to perpetuate your generation, but it is also a safety net. Your parent looked after you, paid fees for you and you aquired a good education with a good job in the end-they are makng a point in all these and the point is, when am old and retired, look after me! You dont need to go to school to see this point. Yet it amazes me that in the developed world where resources are not a problem, young people take pride in banishing their old parents to old people's home! I find this most unfair, but ofcourse, the cultural connotations can be understood, we are different and cannot be expectd to see things the same way!

I live in the US but I'm Serbian and we do not put our elders in homes. We take care of them, there are many nurses in our family anyway. There are people that can help take care of them in your home, our family respects our elders and would never dream of it. It's kind of a payback for our elders taking care of us when we were too young to do it.
It is popular and customary in the US to do this to your elders which is sad.
