is anyone else as tired of it as me?

the other day i was listening to an oldie 'old time rock and roll' and this song was made decades ago but in it he complains about how music these days (in the 70s) was no good anymore and its lost its soul etc.. that was 30 years ago.. i still agree with the statement though.. can anyone think of a group thats come out since the 80s that is worth mentioning anymore.. we still listen to music from the 60s and 70s that still we dont get bored of.. now a days they have 6 people in a room writing the lyrics to a song.. 5 in another room writing the music.. 2 people thinking about the remix.. 2 producers deciding how to show it off.. a couple marketers deciding how to sell it and a little blonde tramp who competes with barbie for how much of her body is plastic to sing it for us.. albums come out with 2 good songs out of 18 and they wonder why we wont pay for them.. what happened to good music and when is it coming back?! is anyone else sick of the way music is given to us these days?

I don't listen to oldies but goodies. I don't listen to classic rock, I don't even listen to the alternative music that I was once so into. It's all too noisy, and I am trying to relax. I've been listening to a lot of Bach and Mozart lately, and music from other countries, like India and Egypt. I call it my 'Temple Music'.
But this post has somehow reminded me of one of my most favorite songs of all time, and I'm going to have to post the lyrics here, sorry, but I can't resist. They go like this:
All around this wide country
the winter it has now begun.
Now is the time to slip away
from the California sun.
To a place where a man
can be free as the wind
as wild as the huskies cry,
Now winter is nigh
let us fly to my
log cabin home in the sky.
Now there comes a time to every man
when he must turn his back on the crowd.
When the glare of the lights
gets much too bright
and the music plays too loud.
When a man must run
from the deeds he has done
recalling those days with a sigh
now winter is nigh
let us fly to my
log cabin home in the sky-eee!
Yeah, I would never pay 20 bucks for a CD when the likelihood of finding more than 1 or 2 songs on it that I enjoyed was only a very remote possibility. (Unless I knew in advance that I liked most of what was on it.) I way prefer file sharing, unless I stumble on an artist that I like enough of what they do to spend the money on an entire CD. It's an economically viable solution to the problem of all the bad music being churned out these days, in my opinion.

Oops! I forgot the final verse:
With snow piling all round the door
and many a log on the stove
with the chickadees singing
a comforting song
I'll show it's you that I love.
Oh, let the wolves howl
they won't find us there,
by a soft oil lamp we will lie
now winter is nigh...

Hehehe. Yeah, all the years I watched cartoons, as a kid myself and then later with my own kids, I always just thought of the 'cartoon music' as cartoon music, like it was written for the cartoons. I was amazed when I found out that some of the world's greatest classical music was what I was hearing when watching them! The William Tell Overture is used a lot, but that's Rossini I think, not Mozart. Mozart is my favorite composer though.

classical music is good for sure.. i got into that when my kids were born cuz a lot of kids music is classical.. did you know mozart wrote a good amount of the music used in childrens music these days? hah anyways ya classical is good for sure :) it doesnt even need lyrics and still it gets played hundreds of years after its origin.. much better than classic rock only surviving 30-40 years for sure

I have always been a fan of the music before the mid 60's
If you realy listen to most of the music after that, you will find that it is mostelly the old songs, classical, western,or cultural songs that have been speeded up to change the sound and mash the lericks.
and the beetles were actually the first to start this manner of so called music, and that trend has continued up to now.
of course some are getting smarter, and I am not talking that rap cr*p,I am talking the ones that have the music so loud, that you can't understand any of the words to the songs anyhow.
thanks for the discussion.

yah the beatles did some great stuff for music its too bad they also started the excessively tiring boy band crap.. new kids on the block and back street boys etc.. sometimes these groups are made up of people who've never even met they all just happen to know how to dance or sing or maybe just have potential to learn it.. and who doesnt hate boy bands eh? haha well teeny bopper girls etc love 'em sure but do you really want your daughters looking up to them? not like they have a chance to get with out of 'em haha :)

yeah they pick like a couple songs that they know will be a big hit and just put them on the radio and forget bout the other ones so when people buy the cd they dont really care for the other song. i bet they would make more money if they played more of thier songs than just a couple from the album.

Hehehe..You're looking at a child of the Woodstock generation and grew up in the 60s and 70s and yup, think that "our" music was the best. There are some groups or singers/musicians though that I think are "worthy"--like David Arkenstone, Enya...also love Nickelback--so music isn't all THAT bad today....uh, can't stand rap though..LOL

its true not ALL music is THAT bad but majority of it is crap.. whens the last time a group made a guitar riff that the entire world recognizes within seconds of hearing the first notes (such as smoke on the water by deep purple, whole lotta love by led zeppelin, back in black by acdc, etc).. nickelback is good and all but compare them with groups of yesteryear.. the beatles, black sabbath, acdc, etc whens the last time music had a revolution? rap? haha :)

I love the old rock so much. I am 51 tho and I also have found some newer stuff that I still listen to. Cinderella, tessella, Puddle of mud, nickleback, metallica, Live, Audio slave, Greenday, 3 doors down, Stained just to name a few are awesome bands. I think I would get very tired of listening to just the old stuff. Maybe you are just listening to the wrong stations on your radio.

nah i know their are a few good bands out there :) but the ratio of good and bad is horrible.. metallica isnt exactly new either.. one of the last of the dying bread i speak of really.. and of the other people you mentioned only greenday has made an album worth listening to from start to finish in my opinion anyways.. nickelback is more of a 2 hits per cd type group.. and puddle of mud i see on the one hit wonder show all the time but ya.. i dont listen to the radio much and when i do its usually classic rock stations cuz i dont feel like hearing all the teeny bopper songs and cover songs etc.. i like original music that wasnt ripped off or dubbed etc :D

A majority of music these days seems to be like that. I don't call those people musicians, they are just performers. It is sad when a person can get caught lip synching and people don't even care and feel that this manufactured music is acceptable. 15 years ago, people got very upset.
That said, there is real, quality music being made today by real, talented musicians. You just have to do more work to find it than simply turning on the radio. Bands like System of a Down and Weezer are making real music (well, it's been a few years for Weezer. But you get the idea. You have to actively seek out real music and weed through all the manufactured stuff, which can be pretty tough.

i totally agree its still possible to find some decent music but ya few and far between.. like finding a good song from the 80s! haha and ya i hear ya on the lip sync.. milli vanilli lost their careers and actually had good music to lip sync.. brittney how ever gets away with it.. why oh why!?? haha a lot of my friends and even my wife listen to system of a down and music of that genre.. i dont mind them but not my cup of tea.. i stick to the classic rock and oldies and rarely put on something even from the 80s or 90s unless its tupac! haha anyways ya nice to see someone else with my view on this :D
