Improvised Harness/Walker |
| |
| Hi moms. My son is 15 months old today and still unable to walk on his own. My daughter was 11 months when she started walking on her own. Few weeks ago my mother-in-law improvised a harness/walker for my son which I use to train him walking everyday. It is such a big help to me too because I don't need to bend whenever I lead him walk. So that saves me from backache. I had one like this before which I used for my daughter. I bought it in a shop in Manila but this one is much better. Have a look at the photo hereto attached. Did you also used the same thing when your child started walking? What can you say about this improvised harness/walker? | | Improvised Walker | | | | |

| | That is a very nice harness indeed. I don't know if we even have such things here, maybe they do. My question is though, why isn't your child walking by 15 months of age? Is there something wrong? My brother never walked until he was 3 but he had polio... that was a long time ago.. but I was wondering if everything is okay? | | | | | | |

| | Hi Oreo. Nothing to worry. It's just that we can't leave him on his own because he will surely hit his face on the floor; he is too excited I think. | | | |

| | "people using animal stuff on their kids"??? LOL! That never ever came to my mind. They sell the same kind of harness in baby shops, it's just that I think this one improvised by my mother-in-law is better. I am sure that products like this in the market undergo studies first before they produced in commercially. They are all intended for the wellness of the babies. Thanks for the advice. I will never do anything that will cause complex to my kids. I can also say that he's doing well with our practice everyday; getting better each day... I am being patient with my kids' mental, emotional and physical development...no rushing here. Thanks for the response. | | | |

| | For me what matters is the purpose of the thing and the intention of the user. I am not offended; we are here to share views, right? My son also used the walker before but he can jump out of it now. Thanks for sharing your views. | | | |

| | I think that this is a great idea. Have you tried bouncers and Walkers. I used a stationary bouncer with my kids and they were all walking by 12 months. I would put them in there bouncer and eventually they would just get up and go. | | | | | | |

| | Hi my friend. Yes, I have tried the walker but now he can't use it anymore because he can jump out of it so it is not that safe for him anymore. I am not familiar with the bouncer sorry my dear, haha! I am not even sure if I have the right picture in mind, lol. | | | |

| | Out of my 6 children only one was almost 10 months old when he started walking. The others were around 8 and 9 months old. He was just too lazy and his brother catered to his every whimper. All he had to do was point at something and his brother would get it for him. I had to put a stop to that... I never used a harness nor a walker. | | | | | | |

| | Hi Kowgirl. I also think that my son is lazy most of the times. There are times when we're practising and all he wants to do is sit on the floor. But he is getting better with the harness on. Thanks for sharing. | | | |

| | Hi Debs. Thanks so much for the response. It was encouraging. I think, partly, the blame is on me because I was too afraid to let him go and allow him to stumble and get hurt. I have read your response several hours ago. After that, I put my son on the floor without the harness. He stumbled several times and cried, but I think he was really really doing well. Thanks for your encouraging response. Oftentimes, we, moms, are paranoid and scared to let go of our kids. But I think it's a natural feeling. | | | |

| | Yes, a Mom always wants to protect her young ones, it is normal and as he grows up you will want to do it more and more, my son played hockey, I remember seeing him laying on the ice not knowing what was wrong or how bad he was hurt, or driving him to the hospital myself rather than waiting for an ambulance. He will stand up, fall down, and maybe even get hurt a little, but it is all part of the growing up process and there is only so much we Moms can do. | | | |

| | This is a nice concept to help your child walk, but all kids fall down when they learn to walk. It's funny how they bounce right back up lol. We have many different type of Walkers here in the states. Most are leg powered by the child, and it strengthens the muscles as the child stand and walks alone. They are able to navigate wherever they want to go. | | | | | | |

| | Hello toni_nakama, It looks like a great idea to me. Pity that I don't know about it. My son started to walk quite early and now since he is very big and tall, I can't even lift him. Do you have anything to help me with that? :) | | | | | | |

| | Its not a very big problem as you think, some children has taken time to walk. now your son is only 15 months don't worry some children takes two years for walking. you give him proper diet, one important think is this, only once you should treating from doctor If your child has any calciuum problem so doctor advice you better. my brother is 10. in his child hood he is wlkes around 20 months we give to them proper diet, checkup, in his 20.5 he is starting running. So don't worry | | | | | | |

| | Hi Toni beta, I have checked the photo, the device looks so simple, I must congratulate your mother in law for her idea. I am happy that you do not have to bend and thus no back ache. I am not a 'mom', but a grand father of three girls and one boy. The kids should start walking by 10-11 months usually but for some it may be delayed. My kids and grand kids never needed this device for walking. Hope every thing will be ok soon. Take care. DR.B.SARAF Ph.D. | | | | | | |
