good 80s music!! no joke!!

well thats wonderful to name someone who survived the 80s anyone can do that:P every classic rock song makes that list heh im lookin for people from the 80s.. queen started in 1970 and was famous long before the 80s arrived:)

It just depends on what one likes but I think there was a good representation of music in the 80's just as there is in any era. Whitney Houston, Pat Benatar, Prince, Michael Jackson, Phil Collins, Madonna, Lionel Richie, Journey, Bruce Springsteen, John Cougar Mellencamp, Men at Work, Peter Gabriel, Robert Palmer, Stray Cats, Billy Joel, MC Hammer, Culture Club, Kool and The Gang, Eddie Money, Hall & Oates, The Pretenders, Tom Petty were all some of my favorites in this era and each had quite a few good songs. That is just me though.

Ummmm, I think you clicked on the wrong box rocap. And I have to say, you have just supplied, for me anyway, a list of all the reasons why somebody would think that music from the 80's sucked! No need to take offense, it's just that I am a music snob.

Well, except for Tom Petty, but he doesn't belong on the list with all that bad company.

the nails were formed in the late 70s but since their first album didnt hit til 81 ill give you that one.. never heard that song before hehe kinda catchy i guess*shrug* i like the video that goes along with it more.. ive even been to a place where one of those photos is taken.. its even mentioned in the video comments as to where it is.. 2:19 is a photo in taken of a girl in a river.. ive been in that river at that spot to see the rocks shes standing by

as to rocaps comment.. and zigs response to it.. i agree most of them people suck! haha tom petty is so not from the 80s though.. he probably has kids born in the 80s lol hes hippie music and i love him! honey bee is a great song by him haha i wont back down is another great he did among many.. but yah hes not from the 80s hes from the mid 70s.. as for john cougar mellencamp i agree hes good but also started in the late 70s.. although he never made it big til the 80s so i guess the songs we'd like by him his 80s music:D he'll make it on the cd too i guess hehe but yah the stray cats are great i already have a few of their songs too.. though i really didnt think they were from the 80s.. they sure do have a 50s feel to them though in the songs i like anyways.. they also have a few guitar hero songs.. thats almost as good as the hall of fame right?!:D (im a huge guitar hero fan)

And that Nails song is definitely a catchy tune. I used to be a Scientologist so that line always gets me, but the one I like the best I think is the one about the biker boots. (I'm being careful with my language here, because I noticed that the last discussion you did where I didn't -well, neither did you - but I noticed that it got deleted. So I won't use the word that describes what she liked to do while wearing leather biker boots.

Yeah, I love the video myself, great video! Those stacked rocks were interesting looking in that shot you're talking about, but I didn't read the comments so I don't know where it was, so... where was it?

And no, John Cougar doesn't belong on rocap's list either... I missed that. I like him a lot too, but my favorite songs of his are 'Sometimes Love Don't Feel Like it Should' and 'Pink Houses'.

the place is in ottawa, ontario (canada's capital city):D im sure you could find plenty of images and video of it on google or even the ottawa tourist websites.. i always liked it cuz it reminds me of a balancing rock near my parents place in nova scotia.. you could also find images of that on google:) balancing rock in nova scotia should work.. itd be the one in kings county if theres more than one:) theres quite a few in the world

This past summer I spent in a tent up in the mountains. There were a bunch of small boulders and rocks all around and every time I drove in or out I bottomed out on them. So I got a pry bar and dug them all out and stacked them like that. I will have to go back up there and get a photo of it because it was a great job... I had one oval shaped rock balanced on the tip of the last one... and it just stayed there, even in really high winds.

that'd be great to see:) why didnt you take a picture when you were first there?! never leave home without a camera!@ lol

Yeah, I've had to learn that lesson the hard way, as I wrote about in an older discussion of mine. Actually, it's pretty apparent that I still haven't learned... it's like looking for a lighter when you want a smoke and the lighter is usually everywhere you aren't.

thats actually a pet peeve of mine.. smokers who dont have a lighter.. i carry no less than 2 at all times.. usually 3 though:) but yah you should carry a camera more often.. at least get a cell phone with a camera on it if nothing else;)

Yeah, it's a pet peeve of mine too, so I have piles of lighters everywhere now, even on me.

And I got a digital camera finally too. It's a blast, but still I don't always have it on me. And I think that some night when you're bored or something, with nothing else to do, you should go read my story about missed photo ops, and my little camera with a broken view-finder on it.

ok david bowie's first crowd was cave men that mans been singing forever! like half a decade anyways haha:) but yah he is awesome.. not an 80s singer though:P ozzy and black sabbath are from the 70s but yah i guess metalica and motley crue are from the 80s:) not a huge fan of either but i guess i know a couple songs by both of them i could find that i like.. the black album by metalica has a couple im sure.. ill have to research motley crue to find one i like though cuz i dunno any of their songs by name.. ive heard tommy lee on tv though*shrug* and whos warren??:D hehe

michael jackson has been around since tv was black and white thats the only reason he looked black before! lol j/k but anyways hes not an 80s singer hes an 80s survivor:D inxs however is a band i totally forgot about! my friends in highschool used to listen to them.. ive heard a few i could tolerate at least hehe ill have to check out tears for fears as ive never heard of them or a song they do!:D i didnt know faith no more was from the 80s either hehe i have a song by them already but i dunno if its from the 80s.. they are though so i guess it counts a little bit hehe

well ill definately be checking out the depeche mode ones theyve come up in another discussion i have on the go about music and also highly recommended by others:) ill try to see about hearing the ones i can find anyways:) theres quite a few people/groups there i have never heard of before though its possible ive heard their music on the radio or something..

well i love that song do you love me but that version is not so up beat as i was expecting when you said work up a sweat.. though the crowd sounds happy haha.. thats a bad cover in my opinion by the dave clark 5.. the contours did a great job of it to begin with:) hard to beat motown though

No, it works up a sweat, especially if your 'dancing' on a mini tramp! Although they do look pretty sedate standing there, and yeah, those girls screaming like that makes me laugh.I've never heard the contours version... I'll have to check that out!

Just can't get enough is one of the worst depeche mode songs in my opinions. It's very madonna-ish. Poppy. Sounds more like the cheesy 80s than anything else.

madonna is good just not long lasting to me:) i cant listen to her songs over and over again hehe and i love cheese just not in my music:D perhaps its because im a fan of ed the sock and he does a fromage show every year of the worst songs/videos etc for those who dont speak french fromage is translated into cheese (see www.edthesock.com if you dunno who he is.. worth checking out!)

aw, I was just being perverse. I don't care much for cheesy, and in fact I might even give up cheese without the y. Nor do I have one single Madonna song in my possession and it's not likely that I ever will. I could never take anyone seriously who would marry sean penn, and then get herself tied up by him.

u2 and billy idol are from the 70s but youre not the first to mention depeche to me so ill be sure to check them out:) and ya i guess madonna has some hits from the 80s but i find her music isnt long lasting to me.. i dont like hearing it often though she is one of the biggest names from the 80s:D i do however like a few songs by rem.. i never even thought to look at top ten or 100 or any top charts for the 80s.. such a logical thing to do too! thanks for the tip heheh

i agree with you that music went down hill but i think it happened long before the 90s.. the 90s however is when money took over the industry and we started really getting hit with boy bands and blonde bimbos.. as for music im thinking it went into a coma years ago and there are few great singers/groups around keeping it alive on life support but so many others are trying to pull the plugs to get the life insurance from its death.. so to speak:) as for country music im glad that changed over the years cuz that hank snow hank williams hank whoevers and johnny whatevers all sucked with their banjos and depressing make you wanna get drunk and die in your own puke type music lol

Live Aid was a huge humanitarian concert for hungry people in Africa. Every musician and band was there, you must have heard of it. I can't remember exactly what year was that, but I think it was in 80's.

oh haha its an event not a group:) i see i see.. i think they still do that actually.. i think a city near by me did that last summer actually.. lots of big bands tour all over doin it.. mighta been something else but for the same reasons
