I saw an ad for a 500. giftcard for walmar today ...... |
| |
| Ok here's the deal the person had a 500.00 gift card, and she had 5 auctions, only 1 auction winner would get the gift card, and the others would get a 'prize of cents on up to 20.00. The way the auction was worded was that you were bidding on an ENVELOPE, that was numbered 1-5, and only one of the auctions had teh actual gift card, no amounts were the same, and all amounts outside of the gift card were a mystery. Do you think people should be allowed to run auctions like this, because while they do not call it a lottery or a sweepstakes that's basically what you are winning, the money if you don't get the gift card is deposited in your PayPal account, and you don't even get a tangible envelope with the money in it. In order to win the gift card you would have to bid on all 5 auctions and win them all. So are aucitons like this right? Mooch | | | | | |

| | I know that I would not bid on an auction like that. I would not win anything and possibly no one would be a winner except who was running the auction. So, with that said I don't think this should be legal. | | | | | | |

| | I don't think that auctions like that are right but alot of people have them I never bid on them I always wonder how do you know if someone acutally wins something or if they are just scamming everyone. I never bid on those type of auctions. | | | | | | |

| | No one can win all five auctions, so I doubt that this is legal. You would have to ask the Better Bureau about it or go on the net and look for scams --Walmart giftcard scams in particular and see if it is. It does sound like that millionaire on Tv, but the money goes to your Paypal account so if you see it, you have won, but it also could be a way of getting you Paypal id so they can rip you off. I would check to see if it is a scam. | | | | | | |

| | Dodgy, very dodgy. I think you are right, that sort of auction should be banned from ebay. It's not really an auction at all, and no way to guarentee that it isn't rigged. Heck, they could just be having a friend run up the the bids and then the freind is the one that "wins" the giftcard auction and they give a few bucks to the other 4 winners a few bucks to make it all kosher in ebay's eyes (if they allow this kind of thing in the first place). | | | | | | |

| | Yep I agree alot of people have mystery envelope auctions and put its not a gamble that whatever is in it is their gift to you, I don't think ebay should have that I've done it a couple times because I love to gamble LoL plus I figured what the heck right, I got way less than what I paid for, no more mystery auctions for me unless I am positive I will get something out of it | | | |

| | I have seen those auctions, too, and no, I do not think they should be allowed. They can dance around the terms all they want, but in my view it is simply a form of unregulated gambling, and we all know what unregulated means. I suppose that some people bid on empty envelopes, but I surely never would do that. | | | | | | |

| | This doesn't sound like something that should be allowed to be done. Especially if your not actually going to get a Walmart gift card, but money in your pay pal account. Something smells fishy about this one. | | | | | | |

| | What was her feedback total? How could someone do this on Ebay without being tossed out eventually? I love Ebay, but it's getting so big, they can't watchdog all their auctions like they used to. | | | | | | |

| | Since I know your an active e-bayer, I'm assuming the auction in question is at ebay which would surprise me cause I didn't think e-bay allowed this type of auction on their site. I sure wouldn't bet on something like this. Just too full of loopholes. | | | | | | |

| | Not sure if I responded to this or not already so will again just in case. I don't think an auction like this is right. I sure wouldn't place a bid on an envelope. | | | | | | |
