Buying vacuum bags over dumping a canister  email this discussion to a friend?

I have a $30.00 vacuum I bought from Target. I use it and dump the canister. Nothing to it and done. My mother has that vacuum that cost over $1000 dollars. They come to your house and clean your carpet as a test. She even ruined her credit not paying for it. Now she and I are both on SSI. She has to buy bags to use her vacuum. She still has no bags for it. My sister has something like mine with a better name on it then mine. she always sends my nephews to borrow mine. I told them to get one like mine and be done with it.

Is it that hard to live good and frugal? Do you pay a lot for your bags?

I traded in my bagged vacuum cleaner for a canister type. I like my canister type so much better. I got mine at Walmart for like $65 4 or 5 years ago and I haven't had to purchase anything for it ever. It isn't hard to live good and be frugal at all. When you are a mom of 4 kids you learn real quick what corners can be cut.

We have a bag free vacuum cleaner. Really doesn't have anything to do with saving money. We just thought it was the best deal for our money at the time.

I have a central-vac in my house, so I do not have to buy bags. I did, though in the past. They were probably about $6/5 bags or something like that. I also had a vacuun that you just dumped the canister and I hated it. The seal wasn't good on it and dust would go everywhere while I was vacuuming. Cleaning the can was just a dirty, messy apin in the butt. i just love the central-vac and I would never go back.

I have had both kinds of vacuums and I prefer the canister because like you said, if you run out of bags, you have to buy more and sometimes these bags are not cheap..
Though I used to buy bags, I no longer do and will not ever again..

It doesn't seem to make even good common sense to buy something that's going to cost you over and over again when you don't have to. Right now I only have a little carpet to clean, since most of the house has hardwood floors. I use a shopvac with a cleanable filter - no bags.

I will probably be one of the ones that Is thought to be weird after I post this. But, We went through a few of the cheap vaccuums from Kmart and Walmart and they never picked up good. It was a constant battle. I have really bad asthma. We bought our new home nearly 4 years ago. When we first moved in, the Kirby people came by and did their little product demo. I got it. Three days later I called and told them to come get it. I was thinking "WHAT is wrong with me" This thing is 1200. BUT, I after thinking about it and seeing that it DOES in fact pick up sooo much better and gets so much more out of the floors and the beds than the regular vaccuum. I Kept it. The bags are pricey. They are 30.00 for 10 I think. BUT, they last a long time. And, I feel better knowing I am getting the floors cleaner. Esp since I have little ones. And, I have carpets all through the house. I Have the lifetime guarantee on it as well. And, its fast and it pulls itself which is good because i have a really bad back. The other ones were heavy and a huge pain to push. My mother had one for years and my MIL had one too. They have both had theirs for over 20 years now. So, I feel confident I made a good choice.

I also like bagless. But would not trade mine for anything now. I should note I did finance it so that I could help build my credit. But it was my choice.

I have used both. I always found that I disliked it intensy when I had to change the bag. It was usually too full and sometimes I spilled it and had dirt all over the place. Also it was so frustrating to get the bag on properly. So I gave it away and I use the the canister type. I dump it, wash it out and put it back. Bagless is the thing for me.

We got a vaccuume for free and so for us it was cheaper to buy the bags for now, but I would like to get a canister vac soon so I dont need to add more trash to the landfills. Plus it would be nice to never buy thoes bags again, or take then out of the vac and end up wearing the dust.

When we first moved to our apartment almost 2 years ago I bought a canister vaccumm...a bissel. It works great and I've never been happier. I am so glad that I don't have to mess with bags anymore.
