What film has sold the most tickets in the history of motion pictures? Also elaborate why you think that is... there is a very good reason.

I would say The Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter. Maybe because we all have little magic within us. Those movies were watched by kids and adults of all age.

Good guess but there is another variable that you have not thought of. I'll throw a bone out there.

1. This movie is still in theatres.
2. This movie is not a 'first run' movie.

myLot reputation of 96/100. polachicago (6025)   ranked 40 out of 6,400 in questions & answers  6 months ago

Cloverfield?
This is the only movie that I may say people are talking about...

myLot reputation of 95/100. zeloguy (1670)   ranked 83 out of 6,400 in questions & answers  6 months ago

nonono way off there.

myLot reputation of 95/100. zeloguy (1670)   ranked 83 out of 6,400 in questions & answers  6 months ago

Ok let's go answer this one.

The answer is:

"Gone With the Wind"

There are theatres that have designated a theatre just for this movie and run it continuously every single day of the year.

myLot reputation of 96/100. polachicago (6025)   ranked 40 out of 6,400 in questions & answers  6 months ago

I think we all were under impression of most money making not tickets sold...hmmm

myLot reputation of 95/100. zeloguy (1670)   ranked 83 out of 6,400 in questions & answers  6 months ago

Read the question carefully pola... that is the first part of figuring out the riddle.

As for most $$$ at the boxoffice ever (US).

1 Titanic $600,800,000
2 Star Wars $460,900,000
3 Shrek 2 $436,500,000
4 E.T. the Extra Terrestrial $434,900,000
5 Star Wars Episode I The Phantom Menace $431,100,000
6 Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest $423,300,000
7 Spider-Man $403,700,000
8 Star Wars Episode III Revenge Of The Sith $380,200,000
9 The Lord Of The Rings The Return Of The King $377,000,000
10 Spider-Man 2 $373,400,000

Star wars was making bigger profit. It cost only 13 millions to produce, compared to 200 millions for Titanic production.

myLot reputation of 95/100. zeloguy (1670)   ranked 83 out of 6,400 in questions & answers  6 months ago

I didn't count worldwide sales... much larger for Titanic... and Titanic obviously hasn't been around as long so sales will keep soaring for that movie.

I think perhaps it is the Star Wars. It is a very famous movie all over the world. And its products sell well.

myLot reputation of 95/100. zeloguy (1670)   ranked 83 out of 6,400 in questions & answers  6 months ago

Star Wars is heading in the right direction.

Another hint:

The movie won 10 Academy Awards.

myLot reputation of 96/100. polachicago (6025)   ranked 40 out of 6,400 in questions & answers  6 months ago

Titanic!
(but, is it still in theatre?)

myLot reputation of 95/100. zeloguy (1670)   ranked 83 out of 6,400 in questions & answers  6 months ago

That is a darn good guess but nope.

Ok here's a hint.

The Bible is the #1 selling book of ALL-TIME. Why?
And no the movie has nothing to do with the Bible but figure out the reason for it being the #1 book and apply that to the movies and you should get it.

myLot reputation of 95/100. zeloguy (1670)   ranked 83 out of 6,400 in questions & answers  6 months ago

At least with your assumption of $$$ you did get Titanic right.

It is the Ten commandments.

myLot reputation of 95/100. zeloguy (1670)   ranked 83 out of 6,400 in questions & answers  6 months ago

It has NOTHING to do with the Bible... but in another respect you are getting closer.

What is different between the Ten Commandments and Titanic that doesn't have to do with actors or the bible.

myLot reputation of 91/100. balasri (5768)   ranked 709 out of 6,400 in questions & answers  6 months ago

Is it the 'West side story?'
May be it is because it is about a boy who falls in love with a Jewish girl who has survived the Holocaust and immigrated from Israel.

i would say it has to be "schindler's list" maybe because people, even the new generations are still very much intrigue about what really happened during that time. everybody loves to see that their suffering are nothing compared to what the other people have.

I have no idea. But I do watch a lot of great films already. Both foreign and local. For me, it's not how much the movie earns but what it teaches its audience that counts most.

myLot reputation of 95/100. zeloguy (1670)   ranked 83 out of 6,400 in questions & answers  6 months ago

So movies that are comedies or dramas are totally out for you... it is the movie that has a moral lesson either explicitly or hidden inside that does it for you.
