What happened to the spirit of 9/11?  

I really do think that that is the problem with most people, once something happens they are really really behind it and then after a few weeks or sometimes a few months it starts fading in people's mind...and then after another little while they have almost completely forgotten about anything that happens and then just go on with their everyday life! The only time people remember september 11 now is whenever someone brings it up or they see it on tv or whenever the actual 9/11 date comes up..which is realyl sad!

I think that any time an event as horrifying as 9/11 occurs, ORyans, people are drawn together for many of the reasons you have stated. Add to that the overwhelming sense of dread and fear, the uncertainty, and, yes, we do tend to huddle together vowing that we will become better than we once were. Sadly, however, once the threat is perceived to be over, people tend to revert back to their natural self-absorbed state(for the most part). I do suspect that much of the discontent centers around the inability to deliver Bin Laden -as promised. Throw in the premature campaigning for the upcoming election, which has been very divisive along party lines, and you get "Business as usual."

I think you are right. People forget all to easily unless they were touched personally. It seems to me like most of the general public are mindless cattle and follow whomever shouts the loudest or causes the most disruption.

I think it is time for people to think for themselves and not take the line of least resistance. Stand up for what you believe in, but only if no one objects seems to be how everyone is nowadays.

Stand up for what you believe, fight for what you believe and support those that believe the same as you. Seems to me this is how we originally became the United States of America, but no one remembers that either.

I don't honestly know what to say about where the spirit of 9/11 is. I know my heart says the same thing. I see people worrying about Britney Spears and whether Angelina Jolie is pregnant again. Who cares???? All I care about is the next phone call from my husband, is he alive and is he ok? My husband is over in Iraq fighting and all the U.S. seems to care about are celebrities. What about footage about what our soldiers are doing, how many are sacrificing their families, their homes their very lives. Those people that died in the twin towers....I saw the footage all day every day for weeks of people jumping from the buildings, falling from the buildings screaming and dying before our very eyes! How can we forget that? Do we think it can't happen again? Well, it can. We need to keep the spirit alive and stay united as a nation. I am so glad that you posted this. Thanks.

It seems so doesn't it? Whenever something major happens, that effects everyone, we get all upset and ready to fight for what's right. Then is just sems to fade away. People stop talking about it and get back to their daily grind. It just seems to put on the back burner.

Of course we have forgotten.We have short attentions span.And we haven't had another attack.And unlike other countries, we are at war and most people's lives go on as we are not. It doesn't change their lives that we are at war. And we are too self centered to notice that we should have that patriotic feeling.So if we had a direction, we haven't heeded it.
