E.N.S. Empty Nest Syndrome

Awww. I wish you both the best. I dont know what its like to have E.N.S yet as my oldest is only 3, I'm hoping to have alot of time with him in my home yet. However I seen what my mom went through when my brother and I moved out. We both live only about 5 minutes from her and she still talks about how she wishes we still lived with her, and its boring and lonely without us.

It's so good to know she goes with your blessings, but I definitely recognize the pain you're feeling. Both of our boys left home at the same time, just coincidentally, and it was very, very hard for me to adjust. It's been almost four years now and I can tell you that, yes, time changes things. When my kids visit it's fabulous - and I'm even astounded as to how much I forget how fun they are to have around - but I'll admit that I like having my house back to myself (and my husband) when they're gone. At the time, though, I couldn't imagine being able to say that.

It's so easy to stay in touch these days with e-mail, cell phones, and unlimited long distance, so for us it feels like our kids are close by even when they're on the other side of the world. Sounds like your daughter will be in driving distance, too, so you'll be able to see her - and fit in a nice shopping trip - from time to time. Stay busy, and best wishes to you both.

My daughter and I are across the country from each other now. The business of the move, she moved and we moved as well, set aside the ENS for a little while. Now, I sure miss having another woman in the house now. I miss having a shopping buddy and I miss not picking up clothes on sale here and there for her. All kinds of little everyday stuff. I miss her. I know we can't make our kids our whole life, but they sure are a large part of it. I can tell you it gets better, but it will never feel the same. Maybe grandchildren that may come along in time may change things again?

The Empty Nest Syndrome…nice clinical way of giving name to old-age loneliness. At least you have the other daughter (if only for the time being) but one day we all will have to be by ourselves. I think its good to start practicing.

I can understand what you might be feeling. My 17 year old daughter was away for 1 year last year. She was staying back home with my mother and although she did have our blessings - we actually thought she had made a very sound decision - it was a very difficult time for us.

That is the hardest thing about being a parent...letting go! My kids live all over the world....at time for they are military. Both of my daughters and their families lived together in the Netherlands...and it was hard to have them over there. I do have a son who lives close and I am very close with my daughter in law!
