E.N.S. Empty Nest Syndrome  |

 As I sit here writing this, I'm watching my oldest daughter (35 years old) pack her belongings. She is moving from Va to Pa. She is moving in with friend of her's who she has known over 15 years. It's a male, and of course mama here is hoping something will develop between them. He is an awesome person.
But at the same time, while she is excited for her new journey, and I am happy for her, I will loose one of my best friends. She was my shopping buddy, my going out to breakfast buddy, and just someone to yap with.
I have my other daughter living here in VA, and with time it will get easier with the oldest not being around.
This empty nest syndrome will slowly go away. Will just take time.
I guess Saturday shopping will just have to be by myself.:(

1.  shootergirl78 (351) | 2 years ago |  Awww. I wish you both the best. I dont know what its like to have E.N.S yet as my oldest is only 3, I'm hoping to have alot of time with him in my home yet. However I seen what my mom went through when my brother and I moved out. We both live only about 5 minutes from her and she still talks about how she wishes we still lived with her, and its boring and lonely without us.

2. my52cents (249)  | 2 years ago |  It's so good to know she goes with your blessings, but I definitely recognize the pain you're feeling. Both of our boys left home at the same time, just coincidentally, and it was very, very hard for me to adjust. It's been almost four years now and I can tell you that, yes, time changes things. When my kids visit it's fabulous - and I'm even astounded as to how much I forget how fun they are to have around - but I'll admit that I like having my house back to myself (and my husband) when they're gone. At the time, though, I couldn't imagine being able to say that.
It's so easy to stay in touch these days with e-mail, cell phones, and unlimited long distance, so for us it feels like our kids are close by even when they're on the other side of the world. Sounds like your daughter will be in driving distance, too, so you'll be able to see her - and fit in a nice shopping trip - from time to time. Stay busy, and best wishes to you both.

| PamE53 (1539) | 2 years ago | Thank you for posting. I know it will take time to adjust. I really don't know why it's bothering me so much. She's been staying with her sister during the week babysitting, and then home on weekends. But I guess knowing I just won't see her again for a while. She will be about 485 miles from me.
I think the part I'll miss the most is her calling me al the time during the day to just say hello. I'm just thankful that at least I have my other daughter and her family here within driving distance.

3.  whittby (2039) | 2 years ago |  My daughter and I are across the country from each other now. The business of the move, she moved and we moved as well, set aside the ENS for a little while. Now, I sure miss having another woman in the house now. I miss having a shopping buddy and I miss not picking up clothes on sale here and there for her. All kinds of little everyday stuff. I miss her. I know we can't make our kids our whole life, but they sure are a large part of it. I can tell you it gets better, but it will never feel the same. Maybe grandchildren that may come along in time may change things again?

| PamE53 (1539) | 2 years ago | Thanks Whittby. I know all those feelings. I guess because I didn't have any siblings is one reason why I am so close to my children. All 3 are my best friends, but yet my children. But like my son said last night while I was crying, he feels its' because she is the last now to go on her own finally. She is disabled, and we always had her around. Her step dad is taking it rather hard, but I know in time it will get better.
Fortunately I have 2 of my 10 grandchildren living within driving distance, so it will help. What the 15 year old doesn't think of the 3 year old will for sure!!

| PamE53 (1539) | 2 years ago | Old age huh? Sorry, I'm far from being old. I'm 54, work a full time job, take care of 3 acres of land, and care for an ailing husband. My other daughter, lives on her own, married with children. Thanks for posting, I pray one day you can practice what you state!:)

She was staying back home with my mother and although she did have our blessings - we actually thought she had made a very sound decision - it was a very difficult time for us.

| PamE53 (1539) | 2 years ago | Thank you for the hug. I just spoke with my daughter. She is abuot 2 hours from her distination. I miss her like crazy. But I know I'll be alright, once they are settled in their place and I know she is safe n sound.

Both of my daughters and their families lived together in the Netherlands...and it was hard to have them over there. I do have a son who lives close and I am very close with my daughter in law!
