We have to stop our dependance on oil.

Alberta oil sands - This is how the land looks after it's been clear cut to get at the oil.

http://www.greenpeace.org/canada/en/campaigns/tarsands/threats I have recently done some research on what we're doing to the environment in Alberta. I always thought it was a good thing that they're doing so well out there because of the tar sands, but, I don't think anyone is considering the future. An area about the size of Florida has been clear cut to get to the oil in the dirt. Massive amounts of water is needed to extract the oil out of the dirt. Tons of green house gases are produced by all the machinery needed to get it out of the ground, and process it. Our country is one of the worst producers of green house gases because of this. The land is useless, and the oil companies were supposed to spend money to replant after they left the lands a virtual waste land, but that didn't happen. We have to stop doing this at the rate we're going, or there won't be any left. 70% of the oil is being shipped to the US. Our two countries have to get serious about how we live. It wouldn't take huge sacrifices either. But, are we willing to do it? I think we have to. Look at the accompanying picture, and you tell me what you think of that.

I completely agree with you american is way to dependent on oil....it is harming the world whenever the oil is being got and from what I have heard before the United States Of America is the country that uses the most of out of all of the countries in the world....thats not the only reason either we need to become more independent as a country and we can't do that as long as we have to keep depending on other countries to give us our oil, I think other countries know that thats why they charge so much a barrel!
