I finally know what she meant!! Have you heard this?

My grandmother used to say about some people, "I would like to buy he/she for what he/she is worth then sell her for what he/she thinks he/she's worth." I never really thought much about that statement until today. While at the local hospital, I met the most arrogant, rude, self-centered physician that I have ever encountered. (and I have known a great many of them in my 30 years as a nurse!)Have you ever heard this saying? Do you know anyone to whom the saying is appropriate?

Oh yes, the first time I heard a variation of this saying was when I was 8 years old on vacation visiting my great grandmother Martina. She was a wonderful woman who didn't gab a lot, but when she spoke, her words spoke volumes! Who would I buy for what she's actually worth and sell for what she think she's worth? PARIS HILTON, hehe

I've heard that saying lots of times too, mostly from my Gramma and my Dad too. (Must have been one of those old-timey sayings) Yes, I know many people who this phrase fits to a T. I have to laugh, you mention a physician, and I have met a lot of those in my 40 years nursing too. One Dr that I was referred to a couple of years ago was like that: rude, arrogant and treated me like I was a nut case over the symptoms I was having. I went somewhere else for a second opinion, and hey, there was a very real and valid reason for the symptoms I was having, and it was something that needed caught in time. Although I used to see it far more back when I first started nursing in the 60's, I don't see this quite as much with physicians today now that people are more into being their own advocates in their health care. Back then we would have termed this physician as having the 'God Complex.' It stemmed from Dr's who thought that they were always right and acted superior about it. (Even when they were 100% wrong lol) I know lots of regular folks who are like this too. Having self-esteem is a good thing, but when they feel they are superior to others with an over-inflated ego, that's when they have a definite problem relating to others.

You know, I just don't understand it why a doctor treats someone in that manner. They should be in the profession to care for people without any arrogance or rudeness included. That sure is a good saying that in all of my 41 years I don't think I really heard of it. Self esteem like you say is a good thing however it sometimes goes to far.

My mawmaw said something just like that, maybe worded differently, about a lady who always wore those stupid big hats with the feathers on it. She would walk her poodle to our yard and let it do its business and then walk away. Occasionally, she would make small talk like, if my grandaughter looked as filthy as yours did, I would have sold her to the gypsies, little girls just don't get dirty. Other times she would talk about how much that suit or dress she was wearing was. (Even though we just seen her buying it at a secondhand store.) I made sure that my little girls had access to dirt like I did when i was little. LOL it makes for better people to get your hands dirty!

Oh you mean Dr. High and mighty. Yes I have worked at a hospital where he practiced also! I worked at our local hospital for 20 years. We had one who would yell at the nurses and the patients all the time. You could hear him comming. One time he had a horrible car accident and he was hospitalized on our floor. When a nurse would go into his room he would say "Are you one that I was mean to?" He know he thought his poop did not stick. He is retired but I am sure there are more to take his place. The worst is when you get doctors that are in a practice together and they brake up. The fighting and back biteing they do is horrible. It is worst then a couple of teenage girls. We have some that have been fighting for years. I will get off my high horse now so you will not have to buy and sell me. hahahaha

sad to say, lots of people. most of them come to you with ideas that are if you only invest in their product or their service..etc etc and when you say "no thanks" they treat YOU like the fool..yet you most likely have more then they have. salesmenship is one separating one from ones money.. remember you are the customer ..the golden rule..the one with the gold rules. the more i see of life..the less i think of doctors.

I never hear about this, but I think that`s so common in many place of China. These physicians are so self-centered,selfish to tell you what you have a BIG sick that maybe you just have a cold. They just want to earn more money form you and do not care about your health. I can`t believe that.
