I can't stand this! How about you? People that hate anime  

I am sort of one of those people you mention. I really don’t get anime. My husband is an anime buff, my son right now is more into it than hubby is, so I am exposed to different animes. I feel like at this point I have given many shows a chance and can say, I really don’t like it.

Now if someone says I saw anime XYZ and it was really awesome, a few other people agree, I will check it out.

I do like FMA and the Ghost in the Shell movies (the TV is meh). Naturo and the like, to me is just boring. I don’t care for the "ainme" drawing style either.

I totally undestand what you're saying, and agree. I think in America, especially people have this set reputation for all anime; cheesy fighting scenes with bad dubs. :P

I totally understand what you are saying. Most people just see animes as cartoons. something kids watch. Most people are into their Greys anatomy, desperate house wives, CSI (and some of these shows are good). but its like saying evey reallity show is a waste of time, some are ok to watch. They are not ALL bad. Though i think a few are.

Some people judge fromthe surface of things, they dont bother being more exposed to the anime. Once you do that then judge.

Well, I just remind myself that different people have different tastes, that's all. I can't persuade them to like what they don't like. They find one boring or stupid, that's their perspective. I also find other things stupid since I just don't like how some actors act, how the story drags on or simply don't like the time slot that they are being shown.

Whenever some say that the anime I'm watching is lame, I would just start a theoretical analysis that complies with the anime I'm watching. Then relate it to real life situations. After that, I'd ask if they agree or not. If they do, I'll then ask what shows they watch and what kind of impressions they have with it. If they don't agree, then I'll ask why they don't agree. A good conversation as I would always like it to happen.

Watch or read Genshiken, its somewhat perfect since the situation you posted is somewhat similar with the one of the couples there. A guy who is into gaming while the girl he's with is what they would call a "norm" or one who really isn't an otaku.

I can undertand your feeling SymphonicLove but to be honest,some anime and animations are too stupid and lossy.Personally,I think the author and the whole team are looking down upon the audience!But this kind of works are minority.

I'm a big fan of manga,anime,cartoon and animation.To be honest,one of my best friends cannot understand my passion just like I cannot understand her passion on cosmetics!But at least,we do our best to understand and communicate with with other;beside these two topics,we still have lots common interests.In my opinion,people who don't like anime is that because they give up their opportunites to learn others in another way,so what can we do? In my opinion,we can do nothing coz it's hard to change one's mind.I would rather to spend time on animations than quarrel with them on my favourite interet.

My sister is really into anime and volunteers at anime North in Toronto every year. Though I have seen a few shows I never really got into it. Though I don't really watch any television much anymore. The odd movie or something but that's about it. My sons both really like anime and enjoy watching it. I don't mind at all. My daughter however doesn't really care to sit and watch it.
I think it all has to do with what people enjoy. It makes people I know happy and it is something they enjoy together and that is all that matters to me.

People like what they like. What's the point of hating someone because they don't like the same things you do? That doesn't make sense to me. I'm not so into amime myself so you'd hate me because of it?

Hey I love Hamtaro lol. But I respect your opinion and think you're right about people who dislike anime after watching just what they've seen on T.V. . .its annoying. Certain dubbed anime seem to give anime a bad rep. .-cough-Naruto-cough-. But I love the original Japanese version dubbed in English. .

i can understand what you're saying but you didn't really have to say that those animes you mentioned are boring if you didn't want to offend their fans. i love Sailormoon and you just hurt my feelings. T.T but hey, i completely respect your opinion. i've seen an episode of an English-dubbed Sailormoon and it totally sucked to me even if i am a huge fan. i mean, there are animes that get badly dubbed and it gets annoying to watch. most of those animes are English-dubbed. i just can't stand English speaking anime characters. ^__^;;

i've also encountered people like your boyfriend who seemed to be so narrow-minded that when they see just one episode, whatever their impression of it would be their impression for the others without even seeing them. and yeah, its totally unacceptable because not all animes are the same, not all tv shows of the same genre are the same. i usually defend my love for anime to them at first but i would eventually give up and let them stay in their narrow clouded thinking. who cares the heck about 'em anyway? if they don't like anime so be it. i love animes, that's what it matters. ^__^

Well for the most part, I just ignore them since

1) I'm not forcing them to watch
2) it's not like I need them in order for me to watch
3) to each his own.

Try letting your boyfriend watch certain anime that are targeted to his genre like yeah, Elfen Lied. See what he thinks of those.
