Artists and Art | | | | We are all of us artists in some way. On a dreary icey day here, I am thinking of how art lights up our days and nights. Art, as we know, takes many, many forms. We all have some form of it in our lives and perhaps we take it for granted more than we know. In this discussion, my dear myLotters, I would like to know about what you consider art in your life, how it affects you positively, and what it has meant to you, past, present, or future. Many of us have dreamed of becoming artists in some form of the arts. Art is a word which encompasses nearly all there is tangible and intangible. It can be very simple or all encompassing. Perhaps your art is something we have never seen or heard of. It may be even be a manner of speaking. Let's educate eachother and find the glory and beauty in our special gifts and crafts which we use or present to the world in creativity. The human gift of imagination is wondrous and blessed! It is one of the highest forms of communication for us in expression. For those who keep creativity locked inside, this is the discussion to let it out. Please share if you will. | | Well, see, ctry, that poem, to me is a form of art! I am considering art as absolutely almost anything. It is a form of expression, as in 'the arts'...on the contrary, writing is one of the most important arts, for without it, without all the poems and literature and novels and anything we read, where would we be? I love to write and read and soak up all the beautiful feelings a poem can evoke. Thank you for sharing your art here ctry and I bet you have more art in you than you know! I know it is hard to see it at times, but it is there! And it is beautiful! | | | | | | | Top 2011 Art Schools Find Schools that Train You For High Paying Artistic Careers! www.Art.ClassesUSA.com | add comment | | | |

| | Thank you for this wonderful post! Well, I am not in my own home now, I live with my folks. So in my bedroom (which is also my dad's entertainment ctr/treadmill room!) we have family pictures, and my dad rotates pictures from various places he has traveled. I have two art glass pieces in there which my former husband gave me. (he is also still a dear friend.) In my computer room, I have Beatles statues, art glass, and more family photos. I really haven't decorated the walls but I do have some beautiful plant pots that a former boyfriend made, as he is a potter. See how my exes still enrich my life? lol | | | | | | | TheHairDresser (3350)

| | Well Chese! (((Chese)))That is just precious that all your x's live in not Texas, but your very own home which you have decorated with their gifts of art to you..that is so very special. And may I say then, that I believe you have inside of you a very special form of art? That would be the art of staying friends with your x's and looking upon them as contributing the enrichment of your wonderful life Chese:)* Thank you too Chese, always so great to read your words, dear friend! | | Hi Doll, Years ago when we took down a drop ceiling from my bedroom we put sheetrock up and put this textures stuff on it..As I'm looking I can see a cat sitting quietly and then a horse rearing and as I look I see a whole zoo if I stare ling enough.. I also see many things in the clouds,trees..etc I have way too much imagination,no? lol oxxoxoxoxo | | | | | | | TheHairDresser (3350)

| | You know everytime you call me Doll raydene, I feel so loved and special..there's an art that you have you see? The art of making people feel loved! But no, my friend, this is exactly the spirit of what I am getting at. Without this imagination that we have, imagine if you will, once again, how dreary life would be. Another fine form of art you are relaying here..the art of putting textures in home decorating. You see, a bit of creativity can add such dimension to our lives, more than we realise and often do not notice. Lovingly, those little added touches have given you something to study at times and perhaps take you away from the humdrum of life as it can be! Excellent, so simple but so meaningful raydene! You come through once again with your great sharing here! (((raydene)))xo | | | | raydene (5491)

| | I hated Art at school and couldn't even draw a person and I was treated with contempt by the teacher who would mock my pictures which kind of put me off art! But I found that I had a talent for drawing maps! I would spend hours and hours creating maps, they were mainly train maps that I would draw, you know the kind you get displaying all the stations en route from A to B. I would make up the stations, I have got a very good imagination, well I was taught that I could actually draw maps on the computer providing I had illustrator package and a Mac! Well it was wonderful seeing my inventions and maps on the computer and printed then laminated! I still have them on the wall in my bedroom, maps everywhere, I still draw freehand maps, maps have always enthused me and fascinated me. I guess in a way I am a cartographer, so that is my artistic nature! | | | | | | | TheHairDresser (3350)

| | wolfie! I have never encountered a cartographer! This is the proper name is it of someone who draws maps? Incredulous! See, I knew this would be so very educational for us to share our versions of art. Oh yes, this must take a special person to be able to do so, as you say, a natural liking for and ability, skill, if you will, to produce maps. Why, I am terrible with maps, but when they are done properly, they are so much easier to read! Yes, I know the train maps you are speaking of and I can imagine them being very artsy if you do them wolfie. What a wonder, I am astounded now and am so happy to have seen your art here and to be educated in this manner. Thanks wolfie! (((wolf))) Nice that you had them laminated..I want a wolfie map too LOL | | | | | | TheHairDresser (3350)

| | Very well said TheHairDresser. All too often people view Art as the things that people draw or paint. They do not see that Art is a form which moldable to each person and their unique way of expressing themselves. My favorite artform is poetry and writing. It comes natural to me when I have something to express or see something that strikes me. I am also a crafter so I dabble in many "crafty" artforms including crochet, knitting, sewing, beading etc. It is very true that everyone can be an artist, they just have to find their own true artform. -Tink | | | | | | | TheHairDresser (3350)

| | Thank you tinkerick. Nothing is any finer than the written word, the beautiful expression of words unique and crafted by only the individual. We are so blessed to be able to do so. Out of your crafts you have listed, I absolutely love the beading especially. I tried my hand at it once, as I was so loving of the shiny crystally sort of beads, I wanted to make a dress of beads, you know like the shimmy dancers LOL, but sadly I did not possess the patience. Thank you for showing us your crafts here and adding to the myLot showcase of artisans! His mom does lovely sewing, macrame and stuff like that. | | Hi winterose! It is wonderful to have all that art around you! Nice that you write, isn't it wonderful. I never knew how much it can enrich one's life and your own life. And the culinary arts is another line of work that is definitely to be admired. And what more rewarding a gift than to be able to help the mentally and physically challenged through the use of art. Sewing is skill and patience and a fine craft, not something we all can do. Again, we all have our way with art and thank you for sharing here winterose your view of this blessed gift that we have as humankind. | | Indeed, my friend, art encompasses many parts of our daily lives. Even cooking is an art, but something we have to do, like it or no. In fact, I quite enjoy cooking, especially baking and decorating my cakes, which is an art in itself. I also make greetings cards, burn designs on wood, write, and learn online. I consider each of these things an art, also. I make tools for my Craft, and have made soft toys, in the past. I can knit, crochet, draw and write poetry. There's so much in our lives that becomes an art. Nice, thought provoking discussion my friend. Thank you and Brightest Blessings. | | | | | | | TheHairDresser (3350)

| | Hello Darkwing Dear Artiste' Well, you know, I was wondering if you might pop in here and grace us with your lovely cake decorating which we know that you love to do and that we are so in awe of. I know also that you love the ancient art of handcrafts which still survives today. Nothing is more pleasurable then to be creative in this way, to view an object that you yourself engraved and decorated with your own mark. I have a particular fondness of these types of crafts as it is indeed a part of my heritage. I only can dream that one day I will be able to get back to my roots and enjoy the art that is inside me. I feel blessed to have it still. And blessed to have fine friends who appreciate my topic here. Darkwing, a glorious addition to our artist community here in myLot, and needless to say, your writings are exquisite to me. ((((Darkwing)))) Thank you! And many blessings on you and the work of your hands! | | | | Darkwing (7548)

| | Thank you so much, my dear friend, I am flattered, and inspired by your thoughtful words. I don't regard myself as any better than the next man. We're all good at something. When you think about it, everything we do is mastering a form of art. Some of it goes unnoticed, and some is admired by others, but we all have it in some area or another. Brightest Blessings and I look forward to the day when you return to your beloved homeland. xxxxx | | | | TheHairDresser (3350)

| | Ohara Dear Friend..this is very touching, for to show the light to others is so very valid. Is it not the highest form of art, to care, to love, to give your very loving light to others? When you support your family and others in this way, you are opening so much comfort and encouragement so that they can find the art within themselves in turn. The greatest gift of self...a love of the 'art' inside. Thank you for your sharing here and a wonderful show of your very special and treasured art...to us here. | | littleowl I want to say how important this is and how I admire your gift of the art of listening and giving wise guidance to others. In years gone by, did people not consult with a wise sage? Why you are a pillar of what I coin as high art..a very spiritual kind of art, that only certain among us have. To give peace and happiness to others, through letting them share with you inner turmoil, to soothe the raging sea inside a soul, what greater gift of art can one give? Excellent and I too like to give happiness as well, whenever I get the chance, {{{littleowl}}} Thank you so much for your show of grace and the art of giving and listening here. | | | | littleowl (5305)

| | Well, I am not artistic myself but paintings speak to me. I can spend hours in art galleries. When I was working I was also able to buy some paintings. Now I am retired and just admire them. Sometimes the images stay with me for days. All the art I have bought spoke to me. I am often outside at a sunset or early in the morning when the mist clears from Lake Ontario and wish I could paint. But I can't. I switched majors at university because in Geography you had to draw slopes and contours, which I was incapable of doing. Maybe if I went now I could use a computer program. There is one thing though that I am good at. It is the culinary arts, but my creations have the good grace to disappear once people are at the dining table. haha | | | | | | | TheHairDresser (3350)

| | Lindalinda! What a nice ring your name has to it! There you go, the art of word placement! I too admire the beautiful paintings in galleries, although I do not get to visit at this time. You know where I would love to see? The Louvre in Paris. Now that would be a treat so divine! Yes, now computer programs can give one a good hand in doing artwork..wondrous what they can do I might add too. It looks so real! Wow, Linda, I want to be one of the people who scoff down one of your wondrous creations at the dining table! I can just imagine! The culinary arts is something I very much admire and to feed people beautifully created food is quite a wonderful gift! To make the food that we need into art is a unique skill.
