Space Station has a gun on it Why do you need gun in space?

for a gun to fire there needs to be a stationary object to fire the projectile and then something to propel the bullet.... namely a gun

since the forces of gravity don't count in space if a gun was fired in space wouldn't the recoil of the gun be exactly the opposite of the force that propelled the bullet forward? Wouldn't you literally need to be strapped down to fire it?

It is like opening a door. There are no doorknobs in space if you try to turn the doorknob YOU turn not the knob... a little different I guess 'cause the doorknob is stationary until moved where there is propellant in the gun....

I have to do some reaserch on this one... just doesn't sound right.

wow! that amazes me to think that the Russians have a "gun" on their space station. ? um, i did not even know that a "gun" could be fired off in space like that in the first place. but i totally agree with you about the gun in outer space. that is all we need is to start hearing about shootings in outer space? right? and it sounds like Russia is trying to keep it all top secret as well. wonder why that they will not talk about having a gun in outer space on their space station?
