You Did What?? |
| |
| I work with this woman who, by looking at her and talking to her, you expect her to be very meek and mild. She is older, I'd say about 65-70 years old. She is always dressed in suits, but she looks like grandma. She's not shy, but she's not aggressive either. she certainly does have a way with our employees though. When she goes home, she is someone you'd expect to bake and play with her grandkids, which is I'm sure what she does do now. So, on Friday we were talking about our background check policy and she said something like "when I was in law enforcement...". I stopped the conversation and asked what she meant. Turns out my meek and mild co-worker used to be a cop. AND....not only was she a cop, but she was in the FBI...for over ten years! I swear you could have knocked me over with a feather when I found this out. Do you now know, or have you ever known anyone that you formed an impression of based on what you currently knew of them and saw. But, later you found out something that just shocked you because it seemed so out of character for them? It could be a former career or just something they did that you would never have expected. People are surprised after knowing me for a while that I was such a rebellious teen and how much trouble I got in to. They don't expect it of me based on the type of person I am now. | | Could this have been your grandma?? | | | | |

| | I do know someone like that, I work with him. He comes in the morning and cleans the grills and does the table setups. Not a big job, but a needed one. He lives in a room in a local business, only a block from work. Well when I found out he use to be a professor I was so suprised. He use to teach at the local University. I often wonder, how it happened that he is doing what he does now. | | | | | | |

| | I have experienced this often at work, Deea48. I have people coming in looking for temp jobs that pay $10 an hour when they used to in well paying, presigious positions in the past. It's sad, but the job market is so upredictable. If you lose a good job, there is no guarantee you will find another one. | | | |

| | Boy do I understand that, I use to be part owner and GM of a Cafe. When we had to close the doors, I had a heck of a time finding a job. Either I was over qualified, or tooo old, or I don't know what. When I finaly found this job, I was just happy to have a job. It doesn't pay as much as I could make, but it is enough to keep me comfy. I think a person just never knows what is going to come down the line. Life is always in motion thats for sure lol. Who knows what I could be doing 20 years from now. | | | |

| | wow! Now, theres a lady here in Austin that lead a tour group from Austin (mostly) to Russia. My mom met her thru her extended studies group connected to the LBJ library. You wouldn't know it now, but if you look closely at some photos of FDR meeting with Stalin, she's in the pix. She was an interpreter for Stalin and she was in the KGB. | | | | | | |

| | She really didn't talk too much about it, but she was mostly an interpreter, but because she was a petite lady. Her father had been a diplomate and she had lived in various countries and spoke about 5 languages. Besides Russian she spoke English, German, French, Italian and Spanish. | | | |

| | About ten years ago I was going to church with this nice older lady. She was around 75 years old, and always had a smile, but was quiet and graceful. She always wanted to hear about what you were doing, and never drew conversation to herself. Well, after deciding to visit some of the older members of our church, I found out something I never would have guessed. She used to be in the circus! She was on the trapeze! I was blown away. | | | | | | |

| | And so goes the saying dfn, never judge a book by it's cover!..a thing we are all very apt to do. One never knows who one is talking to for sure and I am always amazed for instance, how people can babble on all their whole busniness to god knows who hahahhah kinda like we do here on myLot LOL Yes, however, I know what you mean, I was always suprised to know sometimes of someone's life and yet, they looked entirely the furthest from it one could imagine. My cousin was in the FBI and you would never imagine looking at her as well, she is quite the petite little lady now, older and more grandma looking as well:)* dfn.. Yeah, so remember not to blab all your crimes from now on! hahah(((dfn))) | | | | | | |

| | Heehee! I don't think I have any FBI related crimes to blab. Or, any crimes for that matter. LOL. I'm too chicken to commit a crime. :) | | | |

| | People always think I'm a lot worse than I really am... and then when I do actually tell someone of something "rebellious" it's never what they expected (it's usually worse! ha ha). but then they're surprised when I didn't do what they thought. Yeah. if that makes sense. I don't know, the only person I can think of off the top of my head is my co-worker who, upon looking at him and knowing all of his medical problems you would think is probably in his upper 70's. He's got this terrible memory and he's in the hospital all the time for stints and he's had 2 strokes and a heart attack. and he doesn't know how to do much of anything on a computer. The fact is that he's actually only in his late 50's and used to work for press up in New York City AND then worked for big time local D.C and Baltimore governments. After so many medical problems he really couldn't work for them anymore and rather than fire him and make him get on disabilities, they kind of shoved him over to the local library. I guess it's all the medical problems that makes me think so low of him as this great news writer, but I never really believe the stories I hear about how great he was. | | | | | | |

| | Is he someone that anyone would have heard of for his writing if he was that good? I had an aunt...she passed away years ago and when she did, she was about 100 lbs overweight, in a wheelchair and had just about every ailment known to man, many of which she created herself by self medicating for other things. Truth about her was that she used to be a dancer back when she was young. She was also beautiful then. There is no way I ever would have believed it if not for seeing pictures and my grandfather (her brother) telling me stories. Her poor health turned her in to a totally different person both physically and mentally. | | | |

| | I do not believe he was ever that good, because I think it was always local stuff...but if you hear people talk about him sometimes, you would think he was some really famous writer. Yeah, it's sad to think about that. I mean, sometimes things happen and people can't do what they loved. or something. and yet, because you only know them as this person, you can't imagine them as that person. | | | |

| | Well the only one I can think of is my partner. If you were to sit down and have a serious conversation with him, then hear the stories of his teenage early 20's years you would not beleive your ears. I could write a best selling book on the things he used to do. | | | | | | |
