Does red hair turn gray or white?  | |  I had always heard that people with red hair do not go gray that there hair turns white and I wondered if this is true. I believe both my grandparents had red hair but my grandmothers hair turned white and my grandfathers turned gray. Maybe it was because there hair was each a little different color red. Mine is like a reddish brown color. I would rather have my hair turn white than gray. So if I see people walking around and there hair is white I should assume they were red heads?

| greggkato (1) | 11 months ago |  I had a very deep red beard with other hair colour ranging from blonde to dark brown mixed in. It has steadily turned white over the last 6 years (I am 45). Most the white hair was coloured red before it changed. The brown and dark brown beard hairs are relatively still present but were not extremely prevalent to begin with. I had coppery coloured hair as a child and it turned darker as I grew up, upon which it decided to leave my head forever.:-) Its been my experience when talking to other red-haired or semi-red haired people that when the hair grays it comes out pure white. I look in the mirror and see it every day. gregory k.

I found my true color of auburn turning into a soft white around the face. I decided to let it go and in keeping the hair layered and short, the soft white goes so beautifully with the soft auburn. I find in my family of all redheads, my brothers' hair gave me the guts to let it go. Their soft white looks great. So if you enjoy layers, reheads turn so gracefully.
