Did you eat peanut butter during pregnancy? |
|
I love peanuts and peanut butter and am 4.5months pregnant. I was reading that pregnant women should avoid eating peanuts during pregnancy cause it could make their offspring allergic to peanuts. I have been eating peanut butter in the thought that it would help my baby not get an allergy. I want to hear back from mothers who ate peanuts/ peanut butter in their pregnancies and if their children are allergic to peanuts or not. Thankyou.

1. Calais (7038) | 2 years ago | I kept the peanut butter factory in business I ate that much, I was going to buy shares in the company. I ate it everyday with my pregnancies, and none of my children have allergies to it.

3. elemental69 (1023) | 2 years ago | Hi chapcity. Only certain nuts are to be avoided in pregnancy and they are hard shell nuts such as walnuts. Eatingthose nuts will not prevent your baby from having an alergy but will give him a lethal one. Peanut butter and peanuts are fine for you and your baby. Congratuations on your pregnancy.:-)

chapcity (1274) | 2 years ago | Uh oh, I've eaten walnuts too. I was making a banana & walnut cake and I ate the leftover walnuts. I love nuts and have pretty much eaten lots of nuts via nut bars. Thanks for the good wishes.

chapcity (1274) | 2 years ago | Thats good to hear, I am not allergic to peanuts either is my hubby so i don't know how our baby could get an allergy to peanuts. You know my theory is that by exposing your unborn baby to as many foods possible would allow them to develop tolerances. I will follow the rule of no peanuts though till they are a bit older. Thanks fo the info.

chapcity (1274) | 2 years ago | Peanuts are a good source of folate too thats why I've been eating them aswell. I am feeling more relaxed now, its so scary though. there are so many children out there with allergies.

sedel1027 (12442) | 2 years ago | I have not looked into this scientifically, but I am pretty sure that nothing you actually eat during pregnancy can cause an allergy in an unborn child. If that was the case the most kids would have an allergy to a food and that is not the case. Eat what you want, unless your doctor tells you otherwise. You should try to add other nuts to your diet. If you are worried about folate, there are a lot of products that have folate added to them that better options than other items on the shelf.

schilds (287) | 2 years ago | The only things I have heard a definate no on is green tea in early pregnancy (depletes folic acid - can cause neural tube defects) and unpasturized cheeses.

|
|
sedel1027 (12442) | 2 years ago | I did not know that about green tea. Hmm. I drink a lot of that and intake a lot of folate each day (not pregnant but I am 29 so I know I need it). I would what the exchange is on that. I have read that you should not eat anything unpasturized while pregnant, same thing with sushi.

6. rarrimalion (610) | 2 years ago | I think it's fine to eat peanut butter during pregnancy. I mean think about it, how many decades did expectant mothers eat peanut butter, before this warning was issued? And it is NOW that peanut allerigies are on the rise, they were very rare back in the day. I really don't think that is a factor in a child getting a peanut allergy, I just think they have no idea why allergies are on the rise and thats what they're grasping at.

chapcity (1274) | 2 years ago | Yeah thats a good thought. I read too just recently that whislt they are telling pregnant women not to eat peanuts that there is no evidence that this is what causes the allergy. I think its those unborn children that are not exposed to a wide variety of foods in the womb that are more likely to get allergies. Who knows! Thanks for your comment.

7. Nadinest (1564) | 2 years ago | I definately did not eat peanut butter while I was pregnant. Just the smell of it made me want to gag. My oldest boy wanted peanut butter and jam sandwiches for his school lunch (before he wasn't allowed to take peanut butter to school). I had to make them the night before...I just couldn't take the smell of it in the mornings. It would make my stomach hurl. Now, it doesn't bother me at all. Some womenlike to eat peanut butter while pregnant, me, on theother hand...had to steer clear of it.
