Parents pay 3000 for childs 1st birthdya party |

>TAMPA PALMS - Eyes wide, "Prince" Clayburn Reed looked around astonished at the nearly 60 faces as they sang happy birthday in unison.
To celebrate his first birthday, his mother, Sheila Chapman, rented the Palms Room at the Tampa Palms Golf and Country Club and invited friends and family for his special day. <

I have to wonder why they went through such lavish party for a child that won't remember the party, I don't think it matters if they can afford it or not, It shows how parents are making a huge deal out of Birthday's and at a young age.....
What ever happened to smashing you fist into the cake and being a kid, somehow this to me isn't typical of a first birthday party....
Would you throw this kind of party for your 1 year old, if you had the money, I don't think I would....in fact I know I wouldn't.....

1. Feona1962 (3333) | 2 years ago | "These are the memories I want him to have," she said. "I want him to know how important and special I think he is."
Unfortunately these won't be his memories...He will not remember this party or yet probably any party until possibly 5 years old, maybe...
The only other thing is, showing these pictures of all this lavish stuff could be a message to him later on, (like if he screws up) as to say (look what we did you you)!!
I think it is more a show for the parents....

coffeebreak (4834) | 2 years ago | not to mention what the child will get used to having and if there is ever a time he doesn't get this he is going to get mad and all. Throw in if at age 1 he is getting this lavish stuff, and it continues.. things won't mean anything to him anymore. My grand daughter is like that at her dad's house - he just buys her whatever she askes for, (toy wise) and afater a week she could care less about it! That is why she loves comeing to my house as we do crafts, and hand-made stuff - she'll tell you each and every craft and how she did it and what she used... for months down the road.

2. OreoCookie3 (18269) | 2 years ago | No I wouldn't do it either, even if I was rich. I would bake a cake or get one from Publix.. they make great cakes... and I would also have a little cake for him/her to jump into with his/her hands. When Kimmie was a baby we did that for her first birthday and all her little birthdays where she was still a baby and toddler. She loved it.

5. ravinskye (6072) | 2 years ago | You'll see that kid in 15 years on Mtv's my super sweet 16 and his parents will be paying half a million for his 16th bday party lol. I wouldn't throw a party like that either. Our parties are low key, close family and friends, a few decorations and a cake. And my girls had a smash cake.

6. tyc415 (4491) | 2 years ago | No I would never throw a lavish party like that for my child's first birthday. I wouldn't even spend that much for any birthday they had. A child's 1st is a special one yes, but to me the 1st should just be immediate family. I can remember each of my children's first birthday's and they were caught on film, still pictures the old fashion way. I guess these kids who get 3000 spent on their first birthday's are the ones who's parents spend thousands like on that TV show "Sweet Sixteen" If you have that kind of money why not go to some homeless shelter's or children's hospitals and see how many kids are in there that won't be getting anything for their birthday and give them something. Sorry, I just don't understand people with money like that who just blow it in that way.

whittby (2039) | 2 years ago | Oh I agree with you. I wouldn't spend that much for any birthday party. I had a neighbor who spent thousands on a sweet sixteen for her daughter. Thank goodness I didn't have to go or I'd have sat there gagging. I agree with you on better ways to spend money too, but this country is just full of excess spending. And don't get me started on weddings....I asked my daughter if she wanted to elope and get the money toward a house or something. Sometimes I feel like a curmudgeon. whit

8. coffeeshot (2479) | 2 years ago | Gee, I'm sure the kid's really gonna remember this one, you know, being 1 and all. I think the parents are extremely insecure with themselves and have to show off to the other adults there. Quite childish.

9. coffeebreak (4834) | 2 years ago | I'm with you on this! Out here in CA, a limo ride is what a birthday party is never without! Even for school award things. They rent a limo - usually a hummer style limo and the kids that won whatever or the birthday group is "limo'ed" to chuck E Cheese or someplace like that. GOod grief,,, a limo ride! My 7 yo GD has been involved with 4 of these activities and she doesn't really like it - the first was new and interesting, but after that she said it kind of is not to much fun cause there are so many kids and not enough room for them all to sit down - the floor is filled with kids, the seats are filled and if they get up, many get stepped on. What is wrong with parents these days!!!
