Well, I am actually not sure what is wrong with it. I was vacuuming up the tons of kitty litter that the cats knock out of the box and I noticed that the vacuum wasn't picking up anything but if you took the hose off to use it, there was good suction. I turned the vacuum off and checked out the hose. The hose wasn't clogged, the container was empty (weir since I vacuumed the entire room and a lot of litter off the floor) and the spot the hose connects to the vacuum had some litter in it. I turned the vacuum upside down to get that out. I decided that maybe there was too much litter on the floor and that I should use the hose to get it up, that didn't work either. Now it seems like the suction is completely gone. I can hear the motor running and the brushes on the bottom are spinning around.
Time for a new vacuum?

Probably. Vacuum cleaners are a pain. Sometimes if one buys a very expensive vacuum cleaner, there are still problems.
Once, I bought a very cheap vacuum cleaner & it worked well for ages.
Another time I had a reconditioned vacuum cleaner & that worked for quite a long time.
My husband is very good at fixing vacuum cleaners.
Is there someone who can check yours out, just in case it only requires a simple part or maintenance?

Unfortunately the men in my life are not that mechanically inclined when it comes to home appliances. If this were a computer or even a car I would be more than covered. My husband just told me to throw it out and buy a new one LOL

Try disconnecting the hose from the actual unit and see if anything is jammed in there. That is normally what happens with us.

Thanks for the idea. I will have hubby do that after dinner.

it probably just has a litter/waste clog.
i've done this accidentally with the cat litter area where the hose sucked up a hidden poo i didn't see and blocked the suction entirely.
you can usually either clear it by changing the bag
(works sometimes, the new bag creates counter suction)
or taking an air compressor to it (if you have one)and blowing out the hose/bag intake from the other direction.

I think you could also check the filter, when the filter gets clogged it will lose suction power and maybe that could be your problem. Otherwise there may be a hole somewhere in the seals causing air to escape from the hose more readily which also causes suction loss.

I took out everything and it is sitting in the sink waiting to be cleaned. The stuff takes awhile to dry out, so I will check the hose for leaks when it gets put back together.
