Will you return to myLot? |
|
Inertia. What comes to your mind when I say INERTIA? Science lessons? Isaac Newton? A big beer belly? In plain talk, inertia means not getting up when you are already sitting. And the longer you sit, the harder it is for you to leave your seat.
Take myLot for instance, I am an observer (and participant) of many old-timers leaving myLot for reasons too many to list. I have a good friend here who told me that though she feels like coming back, it seems strange to literally pop back onto the scene because she has been away for so long. I suggested that she skips the posting and warms up with responding.
I think the above situation is a familiar one to all of us. If you have not experienced it yet, I am almost willing to bet a dime that you will. New user comes in, gets all excited, gets dejected with no response, slowly feels his way around, starts getting responses, gets all hyped up again, starts to get bored, stagnates and ultimately leaves.
Do you do anything after "doing" nothing for so long? Or do you give way to inertia and just stay there? I was a bit inspired by Crash's discussion at http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1402356.aspx . Though I missed the Q&A session this myLot staff fielded, I read through the discussion and feel good about the whole thing. I can't exactly put a finger to it but I just thought I would try get into the swing of things again. After all, I had been stepping up on my responding recently so perhaps it is time for me to try post discussions again.
This is not really a "What is 1+1?" kinda discussion. Remember Crash said a quality response is worth more than a dozen lousy ones (my words) so please, do share your thoughts on this subject if you would.=)

What will get you started? |

1. byfaithonly (6302) | 2 years ago | I was 'away' quit a bit this past summer and fall being busy with yard work, outdoor activities, moving, new business and more. When I did come back active I was thrilled to find that many of my old friends not only remembered me but seemed happy to see me back.
I actually did just as you suggested started back by responding to several of my friends discussions and after a few days decided to post a discussion. I'm happy to be back although still a bit over whelmed by so much to do and so little time to do it in - I would be happy doing nothing but setting here on myLot all day and half the night if only that effort would pay the bills:(
Glad to see you back dear friend, missed you.
| |
| |
|
|
lordwarwizard (10401) | 2 years ago | Hehe Faith, thanks for responding.
And of course we remember you! How can we forget someone whose presence makes others pale in comparison?:P
Pas a pas. One step at a time. Let's all take it at our own comfortable pace.:-)
| |
|
|
byfaithonly (6302) | 2 years ago | ahhh Faith blushes - you are sweet dear but you I do believe are and will continue to be the legend of myLot - no one could compare to your great presence here:)
| |
|
|
lordwarwizard (10401) | 2 years ago | Geez Faith, let's not start. If we start buttering each other up here, we are gonna get a big audience who will start throwing rotten eggs and smelly butter cakes at us.:P
| |
|
|
byfaithonly (6302) | 2 years ago | Well, I hope everyone knows I love you like a son so if they throw eggs at that then they have some serious problems. I always brag and encourage my 'young men' - LOL I do believe I have 2 older than you not counting the dozen I've informally adopted along the way:)
I love the great thought and insight that goes into your discussions and your witty replies:)
| |
|
|
lordwarwizard (10401) | 2 years ago | Hahaha... thanks Faith! Your bright and cheery comments go a long way towards brightening my nights!^^

charms88 (4698) | 2 years ago | "Ahem"...pardon me for intruding in both your sweetie-tum conversation. But what about me faith, don't you miss me? "sniff" Brace yourself and be prepared not to catch my carroty viruses again, lol! I miss you faith.

ladyluna (2495) | 2 years ago | Greetings Bunny!
What a pleasure it is to see you here. Can we anticipate more interaction from you? If so, then please accept a warm & fuzzy "Welcome Back".
You have been missed!
| |
|
|
charms88 (4698) | 2 years ago | Lol, it really feels good to see all of you again. I was just wandering around the past few months but rest assured, that you are all in my thoughts. I gladly accept your warm and fuzzy hug Luna.:))))))))
| |
|
|
byfaithonly (6302) | 2 years ago | Charms I haven't seen you in like forever - ok wiz disappears, bunny disappears ahhhh then you both show up, Ma does believe there may be a little something going on here:) I love you both equally dear:)

byfaithonly (6302) | 2 years ago | Hey I didn't know there was a party going on at Wizards place:)
| |
|
|
lordwarwizard (10401) | 2 years ago | Oh there is always a party lol.:P
| |
|
|
byfaithonly (6302) | 2 years ago | I should have known that but I am normally just waking up about this time - can't sleep so been working on some different projects:( all night:(
| |
|
|
lordwarwizard (10401) | 2 years ago | You know something, Faith?
(Let me whisper it to you...)At times when I am not lazy, I envy you for having work to do.
| |
|
|
byfaithonly (6302) | 2 years ago | LOL - don't envey, I tend to create work for myself. I can't stand doing nothing and most times have way more ideas than I do time or energy.
| |
|
|
|
byfaithonly (6302) | 2 years ago | LOL - sure go for it but I am paying for that 'drive' today - I'm so tired from not sleeping last night I've accomplished next to nothing at all:( plus weather was horrid today and I had to go to town on an errand, I hate it when that happens
| |
|
|
lordwarwizard (10401) | 2 years ago | Remember this quote" - "You can sleep all you want when you are dead."
| |
|
|
byfaithonly (6302) | 2 years ago | Ah I know that quote well and often live by it but eventually the body (and even mind) say "Give me sleep or give me death".
| |
|
|
lordwarwizard (10401) | 2 years ago | I have in fact been dwelling on immortality recently again.
I was thinking death and immortality. Suddenly I wondered if it would be an unbearable thing when you want to die but can't die.
Death may indeed become a gift.
| |
|
|
byfaithonly (6302) | 2 years ago | That is something I've thought much about myself. One example in my own life, years back my Grandfather died of TB, 2 months later Grandma commited suicide. Some say that is horrible and I must say it hurt a lot my Mother the most. Both my grandparents were the dearest greatest people in the world but for over 50 years they had done everything together - without Grandpa Grandma was like a half a person. Which was better for her - obviously she felt death. But then I look at many people, particularly elderly who can't do the things they are used to doing and they set in a room alone and wish for death - for them it would be a blessing but yet they see no other option but living this non-existant life.

Heard of AMD? I wanted to sign up for that too - but that's before I found out broke me have to PAY A DAMN DOCTOR to witness my signing. To hell with doctors.

lordwarwizard (10401) | 2 years ago | Hihi,
Sorry to hear about your bad experience. I can imagine how irked you must be for being locked out of a place that you supposedly have access. I can't really speak for the admin on this site - I don't know any of them - not even as an imaginary character.:P
And yup, since you've decided to be back. Take it easy. Just as I mentioned to Faith in the response before yours, pas a pas. One step at a time. I am reminding myself too - I am wary that I might get "too-excited" about coming back and the steam will just fizzle sooner than I hope not.
Hope to see you around!:)
| |
|
|
lordwarwizard (10401) | 2 years ago | Well, I pored through that long Q&A discussion by Crash and he sort of tacitly concurred that many queries end up unanswered. The reason given was that there are simply too many queries to be handled by the limited staff - if they handle them all, nothing else can be got done.
I guess the situation may really be as bad as described - given how many members we have here and how most new people don't/can't find the FAQs useful.
Big brother... sigh. Back to that topic again, eh? I hope not. Life would be so tedious if I keep looking over my shoulder - aren't we glad we aren't celebrities? Life is sure much worse for them. No wonder "half" of them go half-crazy lol.:P
Stay healthy, keep happy.:)

3. sminut13 (885) | 2 years ago | well i haven't been away for long but will be soon. i think when i do come back, or let's say if i do decide to come back or remember about mylot, hehe whichever it is, i'll do as you suggested and start with responding to posts. anyway in the first, i seldom post discussions unless it is to ask for some help, advice or opinions. but i'm sure that my mail would be clogged with mails not only from mylot but from my ptcs as well as some other stuff. so i guess i'd probably remember and after a few months, i would probably start by going through all my mylot mails first. once i've done that, only then would i start posting.

lordwarwizard (10401) | 2 years ago | HAHAHA... so you are in the "twilight" phase?
Well, good to catch you before you go (maybe)!:PPP
| |
|
|
sminut13 (885) | 2 years ago | grins, yep you can say that i'm in the twilight zone right now. hehe and yes, soon, i won't be online for a few months. it's not like i don't want to be but situations and circumstance force me to be. hehe but i'm sure that i'll be back again but i'll definitely forget some people here i think. hehehe i have very poor memory so when i come back and people tell me, oh welcome back i missed you, i'll be like okkkk where or which discussion did i meet this particular person. grins hehehe
| |
|
|
lordwarwizard (10401) | 2 years ago | Okay... you have fun, wherever you are "going"!
As one of my primary school teachers wrote in my autograph book, "Good luck for your future endeavors!".:P

|
sminut13 (885) | 2 years ago | grins thanks for your wonderful thoughts though i'm not going anywhere but just resting at home. hehe but i'll definitely be needing that wonderful quote from your teacher. that will help me lots. i'm going to be away as i'll soon be in confinement so nothing big here actually. take care

sminut13 (885) | 2 years ago | hahahaha that was a good one there. but i'd rather read romantic thrillers, mysteries and suspense novels instead of inspirational books. i tend to get bored though i agree with what's said there. thanks for the thought. grins have a great day.

4. ESKARENA1 (12166) | 2 years ago | Well my friend i have been through all the stages you discribe, more than once in some cases, and I am still here. I dont know why, but my motivation in mylot comes and goes in waves. I have left on at least 3 seperate occasions. It has helped me that i have started getting an appropriate recompense this month for the first time in over 12 months. This has helped my motivation no end. I am sure mylot has tried many different things, and in my opinion, crash is one of the better ones. It was a long time coming to have an open forum for mylot admin to answer outr questions but at least they did, in a honest manner too. blessed be
| |
| |
|
|
lordwarwizard (10401) | 2 years ago | Indeed my friend, I am quite a "veteran" like you too. I have been through the stages more than once (lol).
In fact, I can't even be sure how long my newest comeback will last. 1 day? 1 month? 2 weeks? I will need the support of all my friends to keep me "excited" and I hope I will reciprocate with the same impetus.=)
And yup, I agree that Crash's "coming out" is a good move. Finally many of our queries are answered. Though it is a pity I missed the Q&A, I did not have any burning questions and many of the grey areas got cleared as I went through the 28 pages.*GASP*

You get good Information here, other people give you Advice, Support, good Referrals, I met a friend here on Mylot, and she gave me this legit website, I have made $150.00 on it in a couple of weeks, so I am really happy with Mylot, and my friends. I always like to here from you. So don't go anywhere. If You lived in the US. I would pass this good information on to you, because I like youvery much.Have a wonderful week-end!

6. CanadaGal (1623) | 2 years ago | My dime is in the mail, en route to you.;)
I'm one of many who have left this site for a while. I returned about one year after I first joined, using a different username (I used to be QueenKaren... but closed the account). Granted, my reasons for leaving weren't so much about not finding conversations that interested me, but for personal reasons regarding myself and another user on here.
I haven't read through any of the "Crash" posts and Q&A sessions, but I am glad to see that the system somehow has adjustments to it, so that it recognizes quality responses over short answer ones. Is this affecting the payouts?
As for inertia, what comes to mind is a cartoon movie I saw in a high school physics class. The man was driving in a car at a high speed, and as the car sped up, it showed him being pushed back into the seat. But as the car reached a constant speed, it showed how he could move about as he had before the car started moving... and that was inertia.

As for the CARTOON movie, wow, that sounds too geeky for kids!:P

7. ladyluna (2495) | 2 years ago | Greetings oh wizardly one,
Where I have also grappled with the bizarre administrative hurdles here, I have chosen to stay -- at least for now. And, in that same vein, I'm thrilled that you've decided to 'dip your toes' into the waters of posting again. You have a unique way of disecting the mundane, which I find very appealing.
Is the friend of which you speak, one that I would easily welcome back? You know who I mean. If so, then I would second your prodding for that friend to return. If we're thinking of the same person, then no doubt she has been missed.
To directly answer your question, if my absence was based on principle, rather than convenience, then it would be harder to return. Though, the shortness of memory would be an aid in this regard. I would also consider whether or not others in that pursuit would welcome my return, or if it would be frowned upon. In your case, I'm sure that only the warmest welcomes will be offered. This is a certainty in my case.
You have been missed, and I for one, am thrilled to be responding to your post! Woooo-hooooo, the wizard has returned!

|
lordwarwizard (10401) | 2 years ago | Hello my lady, thank you for popping by my maiden discussion after such a long respite.:)
I am not sure which friend you are referring to but I was talking about Charms88.^^
As for PRINCIPLES, well, that is one BIG word. I am a man of principles too so it would be hard for me to budge if I had decided to do something because of my principles - be it right or wrong (lol).:P
| |
|
|
ladyluna (2495) | 2 years ago | Yes, I was also referring to our hoppity-hopping bunny friend.
I see that she has chimed in above. So, I'll send her a hollar directly.
I'm really pleased that you've decided to return, old friend!

charms88 (4698) | 2 years ago | Awww, you're so sweet Luna. You can see I responded immediately upon hearing the chime. Just give me a little time to flex my muscles and feed my brain and I will be back for good. I miss you too, Luna.:)

8. oneandonemakesix (24038) | 2 years ago | What comes to my mind when I see you type the word Inertia,
Please don't laugh at this, there is a house that is called inertia homes, and they are 'Log Cabin's, and have solar built right int them, the homes themselves are expensive to build, but the energy efficient measures have saved people thousands of dollars on heating and fuel costs for their homes.
As far as returning to mylot, only once did I need a break and that was back in October to November, and I came every day and posted a little, just enough to make payout in October, and then mid November I came back and started posting as I normally would.
So I don't know if I have an energy about myself or not on here, I just try to post as I normally would and I don't worry about the earnings, my main goal every month is to have fun....
the money and payout always seems to fall into place.
Mooch

lordwarwizard (10401) | 2 years ago | Moochies and wow wow!
Seems like you are quite a fountain of energy and you didn't really need any rest.:)
As for Inertia homes, cross my heart I didn't laugh. Thank you for sharing as this is something new to me. I am glad you mentioned it or I would have been ignorant when the next person asks.=)

9. lynboobsy11 (2906) | 2 years ago | Thanks for the link, actually this is the first time I knew about Crash and I was surprised that he is from Mylot. About your question yeah I will and I do experienced the way you describe. I been away from mylot for almost a month because I have something to work and I don't have my pc with me. But every time mylot flash in to my mind how I wish I have my pc with me because I missed my friends their discussion and exchanging ideas. And now that I am back I'm still here at my chair and stick with it enjoy every discussion I received in my mail and response to the discussion I really interested with.

lordwarwizard (10401) | 2 years ago | Hihi,
I only heard about Crash minutes before I wrote this discussion so we are quite the same. There was no alert or email notification (yes, I am griping here) so it is no surprise that neither you nor I did not know about Crash and his 48-hour Q&A.

10. charms88 (4698) | 2 years ago | Hi baby "waves"...this friend of yours, she sounds familiar to me, lol. Despite my long absences from mylot, I am well aware of all the discussions my friends posted. Admittedly, I never bothered to partake in the discussions because my mind was elsewhere. I allowed myself to sink in another direction, in another world.
After reading one of black cat's discussions, I was mortified to discover that I have completely lost my wits and senses. I understood what she was posting yet I didn't know what to response. Everything seems vague and totally alien to me.
For the past 3 days, it took all my supreme willpower to stay away from the computer. I used the time to bring back my faculties and contemplating on a possible return to mylot.
I felt guilty when so many mylotters left messages on my email urging me to come back and start posting. I can't say that I will fully swing back to mylot. Maybe, there will come a time when I will start to feel the excitement once again.
For now, I will follow your advice and begin responding one at a time.:)
| |
| |
|
|
lordwarwizard (10401) | 2 years ago | Hi baby,
LOL, that "friend" is you!:P
I think you should come back. Join me and try to swing back to myLot. With you around as motivation, I think I can stay longer... otherwise I might just stop posting tomorrow...
I was wondering why I couldn't find you at google yesterday. So you were staying away? But I thought we were still chatting the day before yesterday?

Hello Eskarena, Its been a while but I'm sure glad to see you again. I understand what you mean. We used to have a grand time exchanging friendly banter. And laughing at all the sparks and flames burning within mylot.
I sure hope we all get to feel those vibrancy once again.
