A trip down memory lane |
| |
| Do you ever take a trip down memory lane, not just in your thoughts, but as you go out & about in your daily travels. I have found myself recently,as i walk through the town in which i have lived for over 18 years, remembering moments from the past, like i pass a house, only 2 streets away & i remember i had a friend who once lived in that house,my son used to play with her daughter, they are both now 17.Or the flat next to the hairdressers, the CB man lived in there,i wonder what happened to him. When i walk over to the little shop with my dog,i pass the football ground, that used to be just waste ground, the fairground went there every May,when my kids were younger,we loved going there,i can still see the smiles on their faces.Across the road from that particular store still lies flowers from when a young man got killed in a car crash 4 years ago,the flowers lie against the tree,so lonely. There are just so many memories from one small town. Next time you go out for a walk, pay a little more attention to how things have changed since you moved there. Experience that moment & keep them in your heart forever. For me it was amazing,it is something i had never really took much notice of until recently. Apologies for the pic,i am aware it does not match the discussion perfectly. | | memories | | | | |

| | yes, I live in the older part of Melbourne and behind all the houses there are lane ways and they all sort of link up in a way, so these lanes were my private little roads, I had a three wheel bile and in those days it seemed to be a lot safer than these days so I used to be be riding up and down the lanes, I wish every child could have a great childhood... | | | |

| | Oh yes i remember the good old days of bikes & trikes, lots of children could be seen outside regularly. Nowadays its all about computers & game consoles. We rarely see a child on a bike now. | | | |

| | I do sometimes sit back and think about how things use to be and how things are now...and I really do miss some of the "old days" when life was a lot more simple and i didn't have anything to worry about...now it seems like I have everything to worry about...but there are also benefits to growing up and seeing the world in another point of view... | | | | | | |

| | Yes i agree its ok to live in the moment & the memories as we pass them at the time, but sometimes our thoughts travel deeper than that,& we become so tangled up in what could have been etc.Mostly tho it is good, without the past, our ' here & now ' would be very bleak. | | | |

| | I go back to Montrose, the town I grew up in,and every where I go I see ghosts from the past.Thats why I go. I can stand and look at the park where we used to play football, and see myself as a 10 year old,and see those kids who were my friends also. Incidents that happened spring to mind, and I am sure as I stand there staring at what must look like nothing to other people passing by,I must have a big smile on my face. That was over 35 years ago,and its like yesterday. Montrose hasnt changed that much, and these moments and visions I experience will never leave me. I still drive down the road where my granparents stayed, drive past the house which I was last in about 1988,and can still see my grandfather cutting the lawn,or shouting on me to come and get strawberries he had just picked. I could go on and on and write down things from that period of my life,it was brilliant. I love memory lane, when I go to Montrose its like my mind opens up,and whats there now,is replaced by what happened then. I think I must go back again soon. | | | | | | |

| | Montrose is in Scotland yes ? Not a place i am familiar with. Ive been in the same situation, standing staring at what appears to be nothing to others, but like you say to us it means so much.Others must think us slightly deluded. Grandparents will always be a wonderful memory to everyone,to me grandparents gave me something that my own parents never did. Rin i hope one day soon you return to Montrose. Sounds to be that would be a wonderful experience for you. | | | |

| | Oh,I go at least 3 or 4 times a year.I even have a bag of chips from the same chip shop, and it was a guy in my class at school who owns it now.We are all older, but none of us have changed that much.Montrose is like that, | | | |

| | Hello Loud You know this is such a beautiful discussion. I too am remembering many many things from when my son was small and the smiles he gave me. The many happy times we had are branded in my mind. Although I am not living where I lived then, it is no matter, for that is where I am and those are the memories that count. I know what you mean however to see the differences and to remember what a place looked like many years ago. I really miss one place in particular and I wish I would have stayed there with my son and never left for what I thought was greener grass, much to our dismay. Keep remembering Loud..it is a beautiful thing to have nice memories...((((Loud))))xo Thank you for helping me to remember too and keep posting great discussions..Your photo of memories is grand, no apologies needed.:) xoxoxo | | | | | | |

| | Sometimes i day dream about different things i've done in my life when its time to go to sleep, that is if i'm not exhausted. Usually they are nice things and nice memories of friends, but sometimes i start to remember the things that i regret doing in my life while i'm trying to go to sleep and THOSE are annoying memmories that i wish i could delete from my memory!! Do you have those types too that pop into your head an inconvienent times ? | | | | | | |
LoudnProud (6249)
|
| | Yes i suppose it is a known fact ,i think that right before we fall asleep those type of thoughts enter our minds,it is because we are not like 'being busy ' with our children or whatever. One should never regret what they have done, only regret that which you have never done & do it!! | | | |

| | Yes, definitely. Even when I'm watching or even heard a song that reminds me of the past, I get to see how time has changed. Seeing people which are part of my past, also makes me want to reminisce those "times." Whenever me and my friends would get to meet every weekend, we cannot stop and help ourselves but to look back from the past of how we all started knowing each other. Now we are really glad that after all those years, we're all still together and even treated each other more than a brother.. | | | | | | |

| | Yes i think its nice to recognize & remember such times. The memories are always there in our minds, just sometime we let them pass, without mellowing in them. Its is nice you still have the same friends, your memories are to go on forever. | | | |

| | I think its part of growing older and things like that trigger our memories. I know that sometimes Ill remember people I havent thought about in years and I pray for them instantaly because for some reason God brought them to my mind. | | | | | | |

| | There is a reason why someone has suddenly been brought to your mind.I am not religious but i believe they were brought to your mind for a reason.Only the future will be the answer to that one, perhaps an unexpected call ? | | | |

| | I returned to memory lane when I returned home to live with my parents, we have lived in the same house for 37 years now, I moved out when I was 26 and made occasional trips back, but now because I had to leave my last relationship I am back in my childhood home and it's strange walking past the old school I used to go to and see it has changed soooo much! Going past friends houses that I used to go round and have tea with and going into the common where we used to have races and cross country runs, it all brings it back, my childhood, sometimes I feel sad and other times I am glad things are in the past. | | | | | | |
