About the olong teas they advertise to help one lose weight |
|
Now I have been drinking green tea, either lemon and ginseng green tea (because I heard that the ginseng helps with your memory and mind) and mint green tea, (because I love mint and I love green tea and this is a perfect combination) but I also have been reading these online ads about this oolong teas, that are more expensive and say they get you to take off pounds quicker. Now I was wondering about because when I drink green tea I am also eating lots of salads and veggies (not much fruit until we can buy them cheaper -the most is one orange and one banana a day, although I put some berries in my yogurt), that the reason the people lose weight on the oolong tea diet is because they are also following a specific diet as well. So what are your thoughts? Does the oolong tea have an effect (that is the brown tea between green and regular) or is it the diet you follow along with it?

1. sedel1027 (12396) | 2 years ago | Any tea is going to help you loose weight because of the caffeine. Oolong does have a higher caffeine content (10 mg more per serving than green, which is still less than coffee), but it is my experience that any weigh loss from drinking a lot of tea is usually water weight. I do find that if you take the green tea pills, they do help you burn off food faster (I believe they have a higher caffeine content). I would think that the diet has more to contribute than drinking the tea.

suspenseful (17034) | 2 years ago | I suspect this, but I have not tried the oolong tea yet. I do have trouble retaining water, cannot have too much salt, but diet is a major factor.

sedel1027 (12396) | 2 years ago | If you drink iced tea in Chinese restaurants or even make it at home, you may already be drinking Oolong tea. I know the blend I buy for our iced tea has orange, black and Oolong in it.
I saw below that you can't drink black tea. I guess you never drink iced tea when you go out to eat.

suspenseful (17034) | 2 years ago | That does sensible. I live near a health food store, and they do sell things in bulk, so I will see if I can get some oolong tea. I am wary of it because I cannot drink black tea, but I will see if it works. I do not want to pay a high price for it. Rather of a cheapskate myself.

ShardAerliss (639) | 2 years ago | Of all the teas I have drunk (and I am something of a tea fiend) I have never actually had Oolong.
Why can you not drink black? I can't drink black tea (without milk) on an empty stomach as it makes me sick. Even with milk I don't feel well.

suspenseful (17034) | 1 year ago | I have an intolerance to the tanin. I can drink green tea all right, but when it comes to black, if I drink more than two cups a day, I will get a horrible headache.

3. BCMike (3316) | 2 years ago | I can't drink green tea anymore. Now that they found the MS, drinking green tea is bad because the antioxidants in the tea increase the immune response. That immune response is the problem with MS because the T-cells attack the myelin which coats the nerves. For some reason, these cell see the myelin as an invading body and will attack. The exact cause that brings on thre response is a mystery, but like so many other medical conditions, they are still looking into it.

suspenseful (17034) | 1 year ago | That is a shame. I guess it makes it harder for you to lose weight. I hope they find something that you can drink that will not make your mS worse. I do not know much about ms. All I know it has something to do with not getting enough sunlight and since I used to live in B.C. with all those cloudy days, I am not surprised that more people did not get it. I hope that you get better soon.

BCMike (3316) | 1 year ago | Sunlight has little to do with it. While Vitamin D helps, it's not the cause.
MS is a disorder of the auto-immune system where the cells that are supposed to kill germs and stuff, turn on the host body and attack the myelin which is the protective layer on top of the nerves. Myelin is very much like the protective coating on wires. It stops the body from having short circuits when electrical impulses are sent along a nerves to connect the brain to the rest of the body. When the brain and body do not communicate the body can become unable to do the things an otherwise normal person does. Numbness, tingling, loss of use, loss of balance and blindness are some common symptoms.

4. byfaithonly (6299) | 2 years ago | I haven't heard of olong tea yet but I tend to just block ads from my mind and may have just didn't pay attention. I do try to at least every few days drink some plain old green tea and I do notice a difference - I feel better after drinking it, no right away but usually within a few hours or the next day.

suspenseful (17034) | 1 year ago | I saw some olong tea at the health food store down in the Mall. i did not want to buy any because it was June, and I had to get three presents, our anniversary, Father's Day, and my precious little granddaughter's birthday, and then I got myself a dress, plus the usual stuff at the bulkstore, took one look at the price on the package and decided, that I had better stick with gree tea for a while. I do know a difference, but I drink it mostly in the morning and the afternoon, so the differences sort of overlap. I am losing weight though.

5. just2crazygirlz (1014) | 2 years ago | It's probably the diet. You can't just drink tea and magically lose weight. Unless that is all you are consuming. And that would probably be pretty bad for you.

suspenseful (17034) | 1 year ago | I am the person who cannot lose weight on just low-cal and a high carbohydrate diet. I can lose on a low carb diet but only so far, but there is something=antitoxins or something that helps one lose weight drinking green or olong tea. Since olong tea is more expensive it could work better. And I drink three cups of green tea a day, mainly in the morning and early afternoon. It also rinses out the fat and even a little at a time adds up, combining that with the one pound a week since I have a slow metabolism anyway, can make me lose two pounds a week, so I guess I do need that tea.

suspenseful (17034) | 1 year ago | I think it is three cups of tea a day. One cup in the morning will not do it and from what I read on the Health sites, like Web MD. you have to steep it for five minutes, not the three to four minutes they say in the package. It sort of causes fat to be flushed out and when you have a slow metabolism as I did, you need all the help. I do not diet, but I am a great salad lover, and I do a lot of walking and also moving around when I sleep.

7. bcote212 (1024) | 2 years ago | I honestly seriously doubt that you can lose weight just from drinking a special tea. In fact I remember a few years back when everyone started drinking green tea, there were ads saying how much weight you could loose just by drinking a cup of green tea per day. It is all about money. The only real way to loose weight and to actually keep it off is to work out a few times per week, and make sure that you are burning more calories than you are consuming. There is no special potion tea that we should all be drinking. I am not some skinny health buff either I could use to lose quite a few pounds, but I do know that in order to do it, it will take work, and not a drink. Good luck. From your post it sounds like you are eating pretty healthy, and I bet you will see that weight start to fall off.

|
suspenseful (17034) | 1 year ago | It is doing so, but the green tea (3 cups a day, not one) helps and you have to steep it for five minutes. The olong is more expensive, so I figured that if you paid more money, it would work better. So if I give up the green tea and just eat like I do now, I will not lose as much. I will not lose the same amount as I did when I drink the tea. For some reason it speeds up the metabolism in my system. The caffeine does not have a chance to keep me jittery, it is too busy getting me to lose those ounces.

8. CoffeeAnyone (1697) | 2 years ago | Spense I have not hear of oolong tea I will have to go read up on it. Personally I don't buy all the claims to weight loss with green tea. I mean it possibly could help a little bit but I believe eating one piece of bread extra that week can counteract any good that tea did. I am no scientist but I just think it is a hype to sell product. I am frustrated to death with fighting the fat as well and I have decided to count the calories and fat intake plus exercise which I hate with a passion. I will let you know how I do?

suspenseful (17034) | 1 year ago | Okay. I am down to around 200 lbs. I think it was a combination of factors. The green tea helps flush off the fat, but you have to let it steep five minutes not the four they suggest and I just drink three cups a day. Also I have a slight allergy to tannin, so I might be able to tolerate olong tea. At least I will not be able to tolerate the price and the only place I have seen it except in ads is at the health food store in our Mall.

9. vanities (8842) | 2 years ago | i like the taste of oolong tea..i guess you had to follow some low calorie diet or same to that effect if your purpose is to lose weight...and all teas are beneficial to our health that is according to some research studies that had been publish..

|
suspenseful (17034) | 1 year ago | I have not tried it yet. I know that I cannot take too much of the black tea because of the tanin. I do not know what is in tea, but there is something that helps me lose the weight as I am not that much into low calories. I am into low carbs or rather low bad carbs. But I have no idea why it works as I am not much of a scientist. In fact, I was so bad at science in high school that I got the chemistry table mixed up and could not even remember what symbol stood for what and only got C minus. And I was the type who loved movies about scientists.

suspenseful (17034) | 1 year ago | It must be a combination of things. I heard of the olong tea, but never really believed it especially when the ones who are advertising are small or medium built to begin with. After all, they are the kind that notice when they get fat right away. Us large boned type do not know until it is too late and we are unaware when we lose the weight until we get on a scale and look down and say, "wOW! I am down to almost 200 lbs, where did the other fifteen disappear?
