to Glob, Slather, or Spread |
|
I used to volunteer as a lunch lady for the school system and when peanut butter sandwiches were to be made they required per state law to have 1.4 cup of peanut butter on each sandwich. THAT is a lot of peanut butter for a child, especially, to choke down - and much got wasted - I could have made a half a dozen sandwiches with that amount of peanut butter.
When you make a peanutbutter sandwich do you glob it on or smooth a thin layer on?

1. SukiSmiles (1564) | 2 years ago | I smooth a thin layer on. Who wants globs of peanutbutter stuck in there mouth? That is way to much - 1.4 cups? They must have a protein quota they have to reach. At my kids' school the pb and j's come prepacked made by smuckers. You know, the ones without a crust. They have a lot of peanutbutter in them too.

Modestah (7932) | 2 years ago | I meant to write that as 1/4 cup but it is still way too much in my opinion.

SukiSmiles (1564) | 2 years ago | I think 1/4 is still too much too. And I always wondered - what do they do with the crust? Seems like a waste.

Modestah (7932) | 2 years ago | oh wow! just like the post above yours. I guess that is a going thing. lucky for smuckers to have such a vending contract. I wonder why the schools would opt to do this, it does not seem like it would be very cost effective, and the kids won't get as full with less sandwich. hmmm.

kimbers867 (1221) | 2 years ago | It boils down to money. I'm sure they get the sandwiches at a discount rate. In the long run it probably saves them money because one lunch person does not have to make the sandwich, wrap, etc. they can be doing something else.

3. Ldyjarhead (5170) | 2 years ago | Good gracious, that is a LOT peanut butter! I wonder if those children had problems going to the bathroom regularly (sorry, that's the first thing that came to my mind).
I would never use that much on a single sandwich. I don't necessarily smooth it out, but I put a glob and spread it on. It's not real thick, but not stretched to the limit either.

4. tigerdragon (2993) | 2 years ago | i love peanutbutter and i spread them, if i can. i find it hard to spread most peanut butter that is from the U.S so what i usually do is to mix some olive oil on it and that helps and since it also tastes bland, i mix it with honey.

5. crazynurse (5743) | 2 years ago | Wow, at first I thought that you meant 1 and 1/4 cup of peanut butter but then I read your response that stated you only meant 1/4th of a cup. However, I find 1/4th of a cup of peanut butter to be quite a bit for one sandwich! Geeze, I would need several cups of milk to keep from choking! The sandwiches that you made must have been an inch thick! I tend to smooth on a thin layer when I make a peanut butter sandwich. I am odd in that I prefer mine to be on toast! I love how the peanut butter melts!~

Modestah (7932) | 2 years ago | yeah, they were heavy too! my son would open the sandwich and scrape most of the pea butter out - such waste was hard to bare.

7. Hmmmmm (1687) | 2 years ago | I'm a globber, but I still don't think I could hit the 1/4 cup mark. I would need much bigger bread. And if you use that much peanut butter, then there's no room for anything else, and the jelly or jam or fluff is just going to ooze out everywhere (first stop, my lap).

Transdisc (18489) | 2 years ago | Not if you mix the peanut butter and the jam or jelly or fluff before you apply it, Hmmmmm. If you mix it all up into one conglomeration, it does not seep out from its bread blanket.

8. Transdisc (18489) | 2 years ago | Wow! I can't believe so much peanut butter was required per child! That's a ton of peanut butter!
I slob on a good bit of peanut butter. I mix the peanut butter and the grape jam in a cup before I apply it, and then I put it on pretty thick. Yet smooth.

Modestah (7932) | 2 years ago | remember that Goober peanutbutter from smuckers? I hated that stuff! lol.
when the fluff gets near to scrapings my daughter will mix her peabutter up in the jar with it...
usually we spread peanutbutter on one slice of bread and the preserves on the other slice - trying to spread the preserves over the peanutbutter does not work very well.
I kind of like your idea though. do you mix a bunch ahead of time or just the amount that you are going to be using right away?

|
Transdisc (18489) | 2 years ago | I just mix it as I use it. I usually make enough for two or three sandwhiches. I eat two of the sandwhiches and then I just like to eat the mixture with a spoon. It's very yummy!!!!
I do remember the Goober Grape. I buy it every once in a while and eat the whole thing straight out of the jar using a spoon. But it's not as good as my own mixture. Not even close.

9. brimia (6187) | 2 years ago | I love peanut butter. I usually spread it on pretty thick but not quite 1/4 cup:) I think I used to spread it pretty thin though when I was younger. I don't think I would've been able to swallow a fourth of a cup.

10. MsTickle (8994) | 2 years ago | It took me a while to figure out that you meant 1/4 of a cup of peanut butter and I have to agree with you, that is a lot. I love excess quantities of peanut butter on toast, less on a sandwich. With 1/4 cup of peanut butter I could make maybe 2 or 3 sandwiches...but certainly not half a dozen.
