New York Pub Bans Danny Boy song in Month of March Love it or hate it?  

I have always liked that song, Danny Boy. As for sitting and listening to it while drinking green beer, no thank you ... I'll pass on the beer as I don't drink. So if someone would make a toast for me while they sit and drink their green beer whether or not they are listening to this song I would appreciate it. :)

No Danny Boy, GREEN beer. Have you New Yorkers ever been to Ireland. I have never heard Danny Boy sang there and as for Green Beer. Guinness is what you should be drinking, or whiskey. Green beer, I've never heard the like of it. What is this stuff. Please tell.

It is a sad song, but I have always loved the Irish melody to it. I have never found it offensive or anything. I would even sing along whenever I hear it. I didn't know it wasn't written by an Irish person either... that is interesting.

I hate the song, but not because of anything to do with the actual song. My dad used to sing it to me and it really upset me. Even though he knew it was distressing to me he continued to do it, only he knows why. Now whever I hear it I get the same feelings of distess that I did then. It was almost a form of torture. That he started to sing it about the same time that I became conscious of mortality and death was a signficant factor in making it so cruel a tune for me as a child, ramming home as it did that my dad would surely someday die. I realise it was never intended to be interpreted in that way

Hi oneandonemakesix. I personally like the song. It won't upset me if I don't hear if on St. Patrick's Day though. I can listen to it whenever I want. It's in my music collection.

Wow this is crazy! Why should they ban that song? It's a great song.. and I like it!

I love the song. I wouldn't go to this pub in March. I love hearing Oh Danny Boy. I don't care if it was written by a Czech from Russia, it is a beautiful, poignant song that makes me think of Ireland. And isn't that what you are suppose to do on March 17th, remember Ireland?
