Have you experienced Mom-Amnesia? |
| |
| I just heard on the radio yesterday that Mom-Amnesia has recently been recognized by the American Medical Associaton. Around 14 years ago, I had taken both my girls grocery shopping. All of a sudden I grabbed them both by the arms and ran to the van to retrieve my 1-year-old son from his car seat. As I was wildly opening up the door - it just occurred to me, that I had left him at home with my Hubby. Have you ever experienced something like this? | | | | | |

| | Yes, all the time. I look around to see if all my kids are there and I'll think one is missing and I start to panick then realizing that we didn't bring him with us.When I realize that it is such a relief. | | | | | | |

| | Yes I have. Sometimes my sister or other family members will take my daughter for the day to spend some time with her and Ill go shopping and do other things. Once and awhile while shopping ill stop for a sec and so omg where did Haylie go and start looking for her then realize that shes elsewhere. I think its just cause im so used to her being there that the thought of her missing comes quicker then the thought that she is with someone. | | | | | | |

| | And hear I thought I was the only person to do this. I always called it mommynesia. Funny that it's in the AMA and I've never heard of it. Definitely am not alone and thank goodness for that. I have on occasion forgotten that one of my children are at home while out shopping, especially if I've been there for awhile. I still do this whenever I wake up lately too. I let one of my best friend's take my infant sun over night so she can take him to church and when I wake up in the middle of the night I go looking for him. | | | | | | |

| | Haven't all us mums! My friend has five children and dropped her girls off to ballet lessons one morning, collected them drove all the way home, two towns away only to realise once home that one of her boys was missing. She had left him behind at the ballet classes. Drove all the way back only to find him happily playing wearing another girls tutu trying to do all the steps, bless. She called it a dizzy moment, from that moment on whenever we went anywhere she would do a head count LOL Ellie :D | | | | | | |

| | Yes cute but scary, but at least she left him in a safe place rather than at a shopping mall or something. He actually did start tap and ballet lessons himself after that as he enjoyed himself so much. Ellie :D | | | |

| | I am so tempted to laugh, but I fear that you are not joking. I have heard of people leaving their children in the car, but I never knew that it wasn't on purpose. I remember when I was about 13 years old. I was living with my uncle and he had taken his son to work with him. This was in the early eighties, before carseats were mandatory. He became frantic when he lost my little cousin, who could not have been more than two at the time. He did not find him before his wife found out about it. Come to find out, he had fallen asleep in the back of the truck. I guess with the shell on it, he was hard to see. Woman are generally better at remembering the kids, but anything can happen when you have a lot on your mind. My older sister has six kids and when I was helping her raise them, I found myself constantly counting heads, LOL. | | | | | | |

| | No i haven't but I did babysit for a woman who one night forgot to pick up her kids. I had someplace to be that particular nite and I waited and waited. Then I drove to her house to leave a note to tell her where I was going to be. I was planning on taking her kids with me. Low and behold...there she was...in her yard hanging laundry without a care in the world! When she saw me...she got all embarrassed. She'd gotten off from work an hour early and decided to use the time to catch up on some stuff and apparently totally spaced that she had kids to pick up. it was cute. | | | | | | |

| | I experience this constantly. Its really bad if I have my younger kids with me causing extra distractions. I forget things constantly and I think with each baby it got worse. I think it should be recognized because every mom out there I think at one point or another experiences it. I think more so when your children are young because they cause those extra distractions. | | | | | | |

| | This happened to me the first time I left my son home with my husband while I went to run an errand. I got to my destination and I went to get him out of the backseat and he wasn't there. Of course, I panicked. Then I realized I left him safe at home. Now I can blame it on Momnesia. LOL They was saying on the reports of Momnesia that the brain forgets because if the mom completely remembered the pain of labor and delivery, she may never have children again. I know I probably wouldn't want to have another one if I completely remembered. | | | | | | |
