|  I have come to the conclusion that I must have found one of the nicest places on earth and the people here want to keep it a secret! It's a no outsiders conspiracy! I'm sure of it!
Why would I say this you ask? Let me tell you of my experience and see what conclusions you draw!
I arrived in this nice little mountain town very early on a Sunday morning and was a little concerned when the receptionist at the motel told us that the economy here was bad and people were leaving. She recommended we not even try to stay here.
Later that day, a waitress at the restaurant we like said the same thing and so did the lady my wife met at the laundromat. Everytime I turn around, everyone here is talking about how much they hate this place and want to get out.
I take things with a grain of salt so I decided to see for myself but keeping this in mind, I also have been scouting the surrounding towns in about a ninety mile radius. I have determined that I like it here where I am best so for the past week I have been trying to find a home. You know what I keep running into now? The rentals fill up faster than I can get to them!
If it's really so bad here, how come I can't seem to find a place to live? If it was so bad, wouldn't there be a lot of vacancies and property owners begging for people to fill their properties? That's what I figure! But there's not! Even the commercial properties have very few vacancies!
This has what got me to thinking there is a conspiracy! Now I have to figure out how to get my foot in the door cause I know once people get to know me and realize that I can be quite handy to have around, I can fix or build anything, I will do good. Just gotta find my way in!

| | The town is relatively small but it is a central location between ski resort towns up in the hills about 35 miles away and a larger city to the south about 18 miles away as well as a larger metropolitan city some 80 miles to the west. It's quiet, rarely do I hear the sound of sirens. It is also very clean and neat. | | | |

| |  I believe it could be conspiracy. Sometimes the best places are the ones that many of the locals don't want other's to live in. So in this case they make up how bad and horrible it is, to keep them out. If you love this place then I say go for it! Keep looking for a place there. You may surprise yourself. I wish you the best.

| |  I think you have managed to meet up with people who are on the stressed and lower end of the local economy, perhaps. And it just may be that those people are the kinds of people that can only see the negative. Are the other people discouraging to you? What do the real estate people say? I bet you can find some actual factual things that give a real picture of the local economy. If they are having some problems, maybe a fixit man would be just what they need to help keep things on an even keel.

| | Overall, I see prosperity here. I see new homes being built, the majority of the vehicles on the road are late model and everyday the many restaurants and cafes are bustling with business. Another good indicator is the fact that a walmart supercenter is being constructed here across from the old walmart, that alone is a sign of good things as walmart wouldn't open a 24 hour store where the economy wouldn't support it.
This town is a relatively conservative place. The only adult beverage store is the city sponsored ABC store and there are no clubs, bars, pubs or adult oriented shops listed in the phone book. I like it as it is respectable. | | | |

If things WERE as bad as people make it sound, places should be more available. Especially if the economy is bad.
Keep trying. Something is sure to come open for you...probably when you least expect it but really need it.
