Do dogs see colors? |
| |
| Ok this is probably going to sound like the dumbest question ever, but I am extremely curious so I am going to ask it anyway. Do dogs see colors? If yes do they see only certain colors, or can they have a preference for a color? My puppy, who is almost 6 months old loves anything that is pink. Sounds stupid right, but he will go after anything that is pink. He doesnt bother the kids toys or shoes, unless they are pink. They gave him a pink dog, when we first got him, and he chewed it up good, now he goes for pink things. | | | | | |

| | I was taught in school that dogs are color blind but that they can still see colors. It is like when humans are color blind you see a color but what is red they see as brown and ect. I have a 5 month old yorkie and he pretty much tears anything up no matter what color. I wish that he would only go for pink things, hehe. | | | | | | |

| | At first when we got him, he tore up everything, then he moved to just my stuff when he was mad at me, now for the past month or so, it is only pink things. So i thought maybe as he gets older his eyes continue to enhance and he sees different colors or not colors. | | | |

| | This is not a stupid question. I had a teacher once tell me the only stupid question is the one that is not asked. I don't know that a dog sees colors, but it is possible. I did a search on the question and found an article on ask.yahoo.com/20020902.html. I think that may help you better understand. I am not going to try to copy the whole thing here because I cannot cut and paste (not enough posts yet). Thanks for bringing up a question that gets you to think "outside the box". | | | | | | |

| | I also had this doubt and I searched a lot for finding a solution.Yes dogs sees colours but not in the way humans do. It cannot differentiate some colours.Instead, god has given them ability to see things at night more clearly than humans. | | | | | | |

| | It seems they see colors, but differently than we do, and are possibly color blind. I still havent gotten a definitive answer. | | | |

| | I think dogs can see colors because our dog Max had a blue cow that he took everywhere. He chewed it until there wasn't nothing left. Well we have a puppy named Fluffy who likes all colors. He really seems to like our clothes. He does have a purple frog he plays with and don't want anyone to play with it. | | | |

| | I was always taught that dogs can't see colors, that everything is grey to them. So maybe he is particular grey that pink shows up to him? I don't know. | | | | | | |
