Book-shopping |
|
I used to love buying books...I would always end up spending all my money on books all the times i went out and visited some bookstore...i just couldnt help it...if there was a bookstore in sight no matter where i was i had to go there and buy something...some people do it with clothes, i do it with books...
Of course i had my favourite places to shop for books...In Milan I used to love Feltrinelli and Messaggerie Musicali...I would spend days there, just looking at titles or at the DVDs and CDs they also sold...that until i discovered FNAC, a French bookstore chain that is quite present in several countries in Europe...when I was in Barcelona i had to go and see the one there (and look, find and take pic of the novel of my prof at uni that they were selling too lol)...the one in Milan is located in Via Torino, which is close to the main square but still not completely there so it would be very less crowded (except for Christmas time unfortunately) and much more quiet...morever they had a very interesting selection of books in Spanish, and from indie authors that only few know of...they had nice areas with sofas to sit and rest and i would use that as meeting point with a dear friend in Milan...I would wait for her at the Spanish books corner and when she finished work she would join me there adn off we would go checking out all new cds and stuff:p
Another place I love is Eason on O'Connell Street in Dublin...everytime i go to Dublin, I have to go to Eason at least once a day lol I love their selection of books on Irish history and literature since im a big fan of those:p The problem is that I always end up broke after a few days from my arrival because I just blow all my money on Irish books and DVDs that i never know how to fit in my suitcase when i have to go home of course LOL
What about you? Do you have any favourite bookstore in your city? Feel free to share your bookstores-stories:)

2. lecanis (7221) | 2 years ago | I miss having big bookstores to shop at! Growing up there were quite a few decent-sized ones near me, but where I live now there aren't.
My town has a Book World and a B. Dalton, neither of which are horribly large. When I worked at the mall, I found myself in B. Dalton pretty much every day, either before or after work, but the lack of selection was pretty depressing. All the same, I would gaze longingly at books that I couldn't afford at the moment!
I tend to do book shopping online these days, actually. While I love just wandering around browsing in a good bookstore, shopping online is nice because you can read reviews from other readers, and you can find some pretty awesome deals too.

JoMarch (2207) | 2 years ago | Hi sweetie! I miss too the big stores in milan..im here stuck in tiny towns now lol
Shopping online was good too! I did that especially with books in english or spanish...once i ended up buying a 50euro (100 dollars!) book on amazon for my thesis...i could not find it in lybraries and my prof wanted me to get it so i had to do so lol he was impressed:p well the option was travel to either spain or argentina and find it:P of course it was over 1000 pages and i only read through it...it was one boring essay book on the poem i was analyzin for my thesis lol GUESS WHAT????? IM DIGRESSING!LOL Im starting to think that you send me digressing vibes hon! just joking! its my fault!
Anyway yes i agree also on the deals...and you can get them used even from amazon now i think...or ebay itself...i love the internet:p

3. petebaja (218) | 2 years ago | I'm the same way. I buy books by the dozen! I recently moved and when I was packing my stuff, I noticed books that I had bought years ago which I still haven't read. Sometimes I buy more than my eyes can physically read. Kind of like in a buffet - my eyes always have a bigger appetite than my stomach!
In the States, I loved going to an old mom and pop used bookstore. Those hardly don't exist anymore because of the big chains. I used to like buying at Crown, Waldenbooks and B Dalton. Nowadays, you'd have to buy your books at Costco or WalMart - they offer lower prices.
In Mexico, I'm stuck with Sanborns. I speak spanish, but, I don't like to read books in spanish. The longest my attention span will allow me to read in spanish is some news articles in the daily paper. So, I'm stuck with Sanborns because they sell books in English. And sometimes the WalMart and Costco in Mexico also sell books in English, just depends.

JoMarch (2207) | 2 years ago | hola amigo!!:)
oh you are in Mexico you should read Pedro Pàramo by Juan Rulfo lol no maybe not...i had to read it like 4 times to understand it decently even after they explained it to me at university ... but it's an awesome book anyway:p
I just do the same..I ended up buying books i never read...and now that i will probably move without taking my stuff with me, well, they will stay there taking up dust in my room*rolleyes*
The worst was going shopping with my mother...for all other mothers-girls it would mean spending hours in fashion shops...for us it was spending days in bookstores and spending up to 150/200 euro in one time (something like 300/400 dollars!! and no we were not rich!lol) And she was just as bad as me, buying them and never reading them lol
Thank you for answering dear! hope you are having a nice day:)

| 6. carrara58 (17) | 2 years ago | I use to read a lot more when I was in school but then I got busy and just did not make time for me and my books! I love to read though...I love getting into the story so much that it feels like you are there with the people in the story! I use to have a book subscription with I can't even remember what company it was. I would get three or four books a month (you get to pick the style of books you read...I read suspense/romance combos) and you would get these books for a nice price!! It kept me from having to go to a ok store and look at titles ( I get really bored just looking at books) but they made the choice in which book I got every month and I loved it!! So, if you love to buy books and want to save some money maybe you should think about a subscription. At the begining of the one I was with they would send me a pretty purple wine glass with each months books. Now I have a set! LOL!

8. moneyandgc (3084) | 2 years ago | In Mississippi I love to go to Books A Million. My husband and I would go there all the time.
Here in New Jersey we go to Barnes and Noble. Our daughter loves to play with the trains in the kids section now so it has become much easier to take her there. Before, she would cry and want to leave.
We also have a Border's but we just don't like the way it is set up. Plus they don't seem to have a great selection. We have only gone there a couple of times.
I love how the bookstores are all open pretty late.
