Have you ever felt really emotional at the achievements of not only your own children and grandchildren, but others, as well? Last night, I couldn't hold back my emotions.

I had just sat through two hours or so, of Alice in Wonderland, which had been viewed by a full house, comprising one thousand people, on the centre stage at the Hawth Theatre, in Crawley. The whole of Broadfield East Middle School, where my little granddaughter Lauren attends, delivered the two-hour long pantomime. There were some three hundred kids involved, and they were fantastic. I think, in the whole of the performance, lines were forgotten only once... probably stage fright. There were a lot of people there, watching expectantly. The audience warmed to them immediately as, with pantomimes, there were a few jokes cracked. The dance group and the singing group, both had to take the stage more than once and as the show went on, they became more and more confident. Alice was terrific... if somebody took their time coming on stage, she started tapping her feet expectantly, with her arms folded, or shrugging her shoulders to the audience.
These were kids of between eight and eleven years of age... so confident and professional, that they gave the perfect performance.

Lauren danced in two dances, a butterfly dance, and a cat dance. The costumes had been made, some by parents and some by the kids' costume department, and there was a special group of kids who had made scenery and effects. WOW... that was some achievement!

At the end, the applause went on for what seemed like five minutes or so... people stood, whooped and whistled, whilst applauding these little stars. The noise was sooooo loud, that my emotions finally cracked, and I stood, applauding with tears in my eyes, just to see how these kids were lapping up the applause. It was great!!! I didn't get back to darts until after half past nine, but I'm so glad I was able to be a part of this audience.

Have you ever been so proud that you have had to let go of your emotions at the sheer intensity of applause and appreciation, escalated by the happiness on kids' faces? To be honest, they were "milking it", but they deserved to do just that. happy Alice was presented with a bouquet of flowers which had been delivered to the stage door, (probably sent by her parents) but it was a great touch, to end a great production.

Awwww, that's so sweet, and so many people!!..I'm glad you were able to go as you would have missed the performance of the century, lol!

I love the age group too, it's perfect for them to remember all the splendor of the moment, and certainly will keep as a fond memory to them all their lives. And you as well, lol!

It's so sweet that she received a bouquet of flowers, that's just so adorable. You are such a proud Grandma, and I'm sure your Granddaughter is proud of you too!

Ahhhh... there you are, my friend. I was getting a bit worried about you, having not seen you for a few days. The last I heard from you, you weren't sure whether you could get to work or not because of the snow! Still, you're here now... worry over! happy

Yes, I am very proud of her. Her dancing is brilliant, as is her acting, and even her gymnastics and school work. It will indeed be a memory for the kids to hold, as many of them will be leaving in July, to go to secondary school. Life goes on, huh?

Brightest Blessings and good to see you again! xx (Did you get my e-mail ok?)

Yes, I'm here, just having a really rough week, feeling down in the dumps shall we say. My job is getting to me and it's really frustrating. I can usually blow the feeling off but lately, I just don't know.

Anyway, what email are you talking about? I'm not sure. I have received your emails from myLot, are those the one's you're talking about?..I hope?

myLot reputation of 98/100. Darkwing (7519)   ranked 5 out of 38,615 in life  2 years ago

No, not those messages. I sent a pretty long e-mail to your address which you sent me? I had to shorten it quite a lot because it would have taken forever, but I sent it Monday night, I think.

I think a few of us have been down in the dumps of late. The weather doesn't help, nor what's happening around us, but I'm preparing for Ostara, when I know I will pick up. It's my son's birthday on that day too and I've been asked by his wife to make him a cake. So, a bit more to worry about, but it will be a good day because once again, we will all come together for that day.

I believe you need some time out meditating my friend, and perhaps you need a different job, or space to grow. Don't give up on your hopes and dreams, will you?

Brightest Blessings, my dear friend. rolleyes xx

Oh no, I'm going to PM you right now.

I wish I could find another job but this is such a long story. I'm hoping the Equinox will bring many changes, I just feel kind of lost right now.

keep the faith, my friend. You know you can get there if you keep trying. I know it's a lot to think about when you have other problems, but I'm here to help, should you need me.

Brightest Blessings. xxxx

Oh honey I have tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat just listening to it! I always feel that way - even if it is only a small school assembly that the kids do something for - I think it is amazing that they put their heart and soul into these things! I am pleased they got the wild applause they so richly deserved and who knows what spark was set off in one of those children! xxx

There was one little boy I felt so sorry for. He was the middle one of three Mad Hatters who sang a song before the Tea Party. He had to sing the main part, and I can't believe he had left things to get to this stage, but during his second verse, he could hold no longer and wet himself on the stage. Poor little mite... I cried for him, because he carried on right to the end, and didn't budge until it was his turn to leave the stage with all the others. I felt his embarrassment, but he stayed strong, because he didn't want to let the others down. How touched was I? Even more than that, he came back on at the end, for the finale. Bless his heart... I do believe he had stage fright.

Anyway... beside the point... yes, I'm sure there was a lot of fun, bonding, and perhaps even hope for a future career in showbiz for a few of the kids. Some of them were naturals, to the point that the whole thing compared very favourably with a professional pantomime.

Brightest Blessings, my dear friend. xxx

The poor little scone - and how brave of him to keep going! I would love to send Niamh to drama classes as she loves to act, sing and dance but I can't get her there every week and they are really quite expensive! I am so pleased for the kids that their hard work paid off! xxx

myLot reputation of 98/100. Darkwing (7519)   ranked 5 out of 38,615 in life  2 years ago

This was a school production, my friend. I think some of the teachers have attended the previous, drama group productions and thought it would be good to stage a school one.

The drama group my granddaughter goes to is not too expensive, and is held in the local community centre. Maybe if you were to visit you local council offices, you might find something a little cheaper than the one you mention? xxxx

myLot reputation of 95/100. mummymo (11642)   ranked 299 out of 38,615 in life  2 years ago

Sorry for confusing you sweetheart - I knew it was a school production but Niamhs school is too small to put on a full scale pantomime - that is why I jumped over sending her to a drama class! lol The only cheaper option I could find they had to have a lot of kit which made it even more expensive than the others! Hopefully I will get back on my feet soon and be able to get her to these classes regularly which would make it value for money! xxxx

It's a shame that you don't have anything in the community, that's closer to hand and less expensive. Yes, hopefully you will be on your feet again soon... I'm rooting for you still. xxxx

That was the second of the school pantomimes that I've seen and they were both very good but Alice was slightly better. I thought the girl who played Alice was a great actress and very natural. Of course Lauren was one of he best dancers there. I have to say that or she'll start digging me in the ribs.:) I felt sorry for the young boy who had a problem on the stage, but at the end there was such loud applause that I don't think he would have been worried any more.

The whole evening was great.

myLot reputation of 98/100. Darkwing (7519)   ranked 5 out of 38,615 in life  2 years ago

Yes, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I hope they put on another before Lauren leaves the school, but that doesn't give them too long, does it? There's a lot of work involved with the scenery, costumes and rehearsals.

I thought they did a great job.

I did when I saw my son and his class take part in the Heritage Festival last year and his class sang "America the Beautiful" with actions too. Not only was I proud of him, I was also proud of all the other kids in his class and especially those who dressed up in their national costume - they all looked beautiful. I'm glad I recorded them singing that song:)

Oh, I would imagine that was a very touching moment for you, my friend, and yes, the costumes must have been very colourful. It's great to keep memories like that. We weren't allowed to use cameras, video recorders or phones in there, because of the pedophile problem. They're banned from kids performances in England.

Brightest Blessings and thank you for your contribution.

You're welcome, my friend. It was your son's class singing America the Beautiful that swung it. Is that him in your avatar pic?

Yes it is - he was singing and dancing to some cartoon songs that day.
