Should importance of cricket be decresed?

Yes, there are a lot of sports in india that doesnt get attention,even our national game hockey! Everybody likes to watch one day long cricket but doesnt even care 90 minutes football or other games!

We can't decrease the value of one sports to uplift the value of another one.

It's similar to the fact that we will cease our right hand because it is more effective then the left hand.

If one boy is securing more then 90% and others are getiing just 50%, then we should encourage the other students to achieve that particular level but can't force that boy who securing 90% to lower his performance.

Once again I am stumped. How exactly do you propose to decrease the importance of cricket. Do you think somebody has purposely increased the importance of this sport? I wonder how even government could do that except for banning the whole sport. And I am sure that is not a viable option.

There was a time when even hockey and football used to have a big following, especially Punjab, Bihar and Orissa for hockey and Bengal and Kerala for football. But cricket has now gained momentum in these states too. WHy? Do you think it is because the government or some other agency has thrusted it? The simple reason is that Indian team is doing well and that is bringing in more interest of the common man in the sport. Wait till the indian hockey team wins world cup or Olympic gold and you will see an upsurge in that sport too.

Even if it would be feasible I dont think pushing one down to bring another up is not the right way. You are proposing reservations for the sport now. Is the reservation based on caste and religion not enough?

i think you are some what correct. i just say don't decrease the importance but all other sports should be equally paying. Why we all are paying cricketers like crazy? do they really deserve? why then other renowned players in other games are not paid even a thousandth times the cricketers? we should reduce the n=madness revolving round cricket.

I dont know why people blame cricket for fockey and footballs plight in India. it is same as a poor man blaming rich people for him being poor. pople in India have not decided to support cricket so that football and hockey can not come up. we are no.2 ranked nation in test cricket whereas we are not even in top 100 in football then how can you expect people to watch football. before 1983 when India won the cricket world cup people were crazy or hockey but after 1970's and specially in 80's India started declining in hockey. Now Mr. Gillhas decided that he will put Indian hockey in coffin and burry it under the earth andthen only he will leave his position.
