I saw a funny thing yesterday...  |

|  ... as I popped out at lunchtime to get a sandwich, I passed a guy asleep in one of the doorways of the local cinema hall. He had a begging bowl next to him which contained a handful of coins. What is so unusual about that you might ask and why did I say it was funny in my discussion heading? Poor people begging on the streets is not something nice people laugh about. Before I get hung out to dry for being mean, let me finish the story. The guy was fairly clean shaven wearing a smart winter sheepskin coat, he had a lovely alsation dog beside him, who wagged his tail in a friendly manner as I walked past and in the guy's hand was a half empty bottle of EXPENSIVE CHAMPAGNE. The bottle was Dom Perignon and I know for a fact that this stuff retails at at least £90-100 if not double that! I chuckled to myself as I walked past that some people had actually thrown copper and silver coins into his bowl and started to wonder why the guy was there...
Maybe he was out drinking so late he was too scared to go home and face the missus so he slept on the street. Maybe he was out partying with friends and got so drunk he couldn't walk anymore so just slept where he fell. Was it maybe his stag night and his pals got him in that drunken state and left him there with his dog to guard him and the begging bowl was their idea of a joke? Or was he some rich guy doing an experiment to see how many people would stop to give him money?
What things would come to your mind about why this guy was there?

| |  Oh well, I think he’s a rich guy gone completely broke speculating or something similar and he’s enjoying his last luxury before bumping himself off! yes, there are many similar cases where rich heirs have blown off everything and have had just enough to hire the most expensive rooms and all other accompaniments for one night and then they commit suicide. Maybe this guy did not have enough to hire a room, so he thought why not the pavement itself for one last sip of Dom Perignon?
