Poor Baby |
| |
| I'd like some help/suggestions/advice from all my lovely friends and soon to be friends here in mylot land. My 6 year old daughter Niamh has always been prone to UTI's since she was a baby, she has had a kidney scan and all is okay though she will most likely need another scan in the next few years just to ensure that things have not deteriorated! Anyway the other night the poor little lamb could not sleep as she was so sore and red down below and typically we had ran out of Sudocreme which is great for soothing! We got her an appt at the health centre the next morning and there was blood and protein in her urine but the are awaiting test results to make sure it is an infection but as she is not ill as she usually gets with a uti they think it could just be a bad case of thrush caused by the antibiotics she had to take at the beginning of the year to cure an ear infection! We decided not to start her on antibiotics as she is allergic to penicillin and we don't want her getting immune to other alternatives unneccesarily! It breaks my heart that she has to go through this again , she has been given cream to treat thrush and it is helping but I would love to be able to cut all these episodes out but I am at a loss! She always wears cotton panties, avoid tight clothing, she drinks lots of water and also cranberry juice what else can I do? Any advice would be helpful. Do any of you guys know someone this young who goes through all this, did anything help prevent it with them? xxx | | | | | |

| | I get lots of UTI's, too, and have all my life. I'm 31 now. One thing that helps is sleeping with no panties, so you can get "air up there". Blueberry is another anti- UTI juice. My doctor told me to drink it 8 ounces per day, as I stand cranberry juice at all. I hope that daughter get better soon!! | | | | | | |

| | cripfemme I am so sorry to hear that you have suffered for so long with uti's - I know how unpleasant they are and how badly they can affect you, Niamh has ended up in hospital with dehydration due to uti's several times despite our best efforts! Thank you so much for your advice and I will give it a try! I think blueberry juice is becoming more available here now and i will look out for it when I go shopping tonight! Hope you stay well xxxx | | | |

| | Sudocreme is a wonderful invention isn't it? I have used it for over 14 years as Niall was allergic to Lanolin which was in a lot of products back then and I have continued to use it for many things ever since! It is great on cuts and grazes as well! Niamh has been prescribed a special cream for Thrush til we find out if we need yet more antibiotics and it is helping to soothe it! Thank you heavens my darling I really appreciate your support and prayers! Hugs xxx | | | |

| | Oh Mo that is so sad that someone as young as 6 has to go through this. It is bad enough getting thrush when we get older, but for a 6 year old, it would be sheer he!!. I hope you are able to find a solution soon. The only thing I can come up with is do not let her eat anything that has yeast in it. Eating yogurt is supposed to be good, because of the asodolifis (not spelt correctly) in it. | | | | | | |

| | Goodie it is wonderful to see you! We are getting used to it as she has been going through this since she was months old - it doesn't stop us fretting about it however , it is awful to watch her go through this time and time again! Thank you for that advice, the yeast is probably a good idea and to be honest she does eat yoghurt but it is usually the petit filou type and I don't know if that is as effective! xxx | | | |

| | I think all yogurt would be fine, but the natural (YUK) would be better. Stopping her from eating foods which contain yeast will be a big help. | | | |

| | Some girls are prone to uti's because of the female anatomy. Sometimes it is necessary to put them on long term antibiotics to prevent further infections. Avoid tub baths as well as that can bring on a uti. If you haven't yet, take her to a pediatic urologist. Hope all works out. | | | | | | |
mummymo (11642)
|
| | She hasn't actually seen a urologist but she has had a kidney scan which was seemingly okay - they did tell me she would probably need another scan when she was about 7 or 8! She mainly has showers now but even when she had a bath we could not put anything in it at all. I really want to avoid her going on lon term antibiotics if I can help it as she is already allergic to the penicillin group of antibiotics! Thank you so much for all your advice my friend, it is very much appreciated! xxx | | | |

| | Hey mummy, Having 4 kids, I wish I had kinder words of advice for you, I had kids who got ear infections all the time, and I have no idea what to do, you're already doing what I hear is good for kidney infections and UTI I hope that she gets through this without a lot of antibiotics and any more discomfort that she has already been through....have they been able to say if there are options for her down the road or will this be something she will outgrow? Mooch | | | | | | |
mummymo (11642)
|
| | We do try to avoid antibiotics unless they are vital Mooch - she already has limited options as she is allergic to the penicillin family and although her one and only experience with them was when she was a baby she will never be able to take them as her reaction was systemic and could be potentially fatal! They are hopeful that she will grow out of these UTI's but not sure by any means! She will probably have another kidney scan in a year or two just to check out how things are - the last one was ok although one kidney was not as effective but still not serious! I will let you know how things go! xxx | | | |

| | I´ve had the same problem as your poor little daughter since I was eighteen. I feel really sorry for her as I can imagine what she´s going through. I´ve taken that many antibiotics that none of them work for me anymore. The only thing they helps me are homeopatic remedies. It´s best to go and see a specialist to get a proper treatment. I could recommend you something I´m taking, but this doesn´t mean it´s going to work for Niamh. A specialist would take into consideration age, intensity of the symptoms and what´s most important the personality of the person he´s treating. The good thing is that homoeopathy isn´t harmful and has no side effects. Hope this helps. A big kiss to your little girl. XXX Dana | | | | | | |

| | Aww Dana I know how terrible this is and how horrible it must have been for you! Niamh is allergic to penicillin and that family of antibiotics so I do try to avoid taking them unless absolutely necessary as I don't want her to become immune to any! I will have to look into homeopathy and whether we have any practitioners here! Thank you sweetheart and huge hugs from Niamh and Ixxxx ps I do hope you are ok sweety - it is really good to see you! xxxx | | | |
