DJ announcement of Birthday party on radio ends in a disastor |
| |
| A person invited to a birthday party had the nerve to call the DJ and do a "shout out' for a friends party that he was invited to, and what was supposed to be a party for about 300 guests turned out to be a party for about 2,000... Yes the parents were home, and the bouncers that htey had there to control the party couldn't have began to prepare for what happened. The parents are now suing the radio station as the damage was done to property, the DJ did not give out the address, but called it a 'Mansion Party in Bovey Tracy', whichb I can assume wouldn't have been hard to find. >Her husband Bill Brooks said some of the partygoers "were acting like animals". "They were screaming and hollering and when someone broke something they cheered," he said. "We tried to ask people to leave, but it was no use." Police eventually broke up the party and blocked the driveway to the home to stop revellers returning. < I think these parents have every right to sue, and I think the DJ should be fired, Police had to block the driveway to keep guests from returning... I can't believe how this family feels, and how this friend feels that was betrayed..... What would you do if you had an unexpected throng of 1500+ people show up to a party? Are the parents right to sue? Would you let your daughter have another birthday party, or would you find a place to throw it elsewhere, like a country club? Mooch Mooch | | | | | |

| | I read about this party too. The BBC argue that they didn't give away the address of the party, but how many mansions are there in Bovey Tracey and remembering from when I was teenager, the party radar is pretty good. We threw a party for out daughter's 18th and had about 200. The single Gate crasher turned up a midnight and I told him it was a private boxing match. He went away very bemused. But I was wearing my dinner jacket or as you in the USA call them, "Tux", and he clearly thought that I was the bouncer! I am not sure whether it is the DJ or his producer that need sacking. But it is a very irresponsible thing to do and the practice of "party shout" should stop. The very least that the BBC could do is offer to pay for the clean up. But they won't because they are owned by the Government who never, ever, admit liability for anything. | | | | | | |

| | Yikes! I agree that the radio station should be liable for it, even if they didn't give an address. It sounds like it wouldn't have been hard to find. I can't imagine throwing a birthday party in your home for 300 people anyway, I don't care how big it is. Good gracious, I wouldn't even know a tenth of that many people that I'd want to invite to my birthday. | | | | | | |

| | That was irresponsible on the part of the DJ and the friend that called the radio station. When I had my 18th birthday, I had a handful of unwanted uninvited visitors. I had to let them in because my mom was so nice that she said it's OK. It just sucks because I personally hand crafted my exclusive birthday invite and those people who weren't on my list just showed up. But at least there weren't 1500 more ;P | | | | | | |

| | I definitely think they had the right to sue. After all, he did really give a tip about where the party would be held and since it can't be hard to wander around to find the place. Especially if a lot of people were already at the party to begin with. All you have to do is drive around to find the house and find a place where a lot of cars are parked. | | | | | | |

| | oh well... i think the parents have every right to sue the radio station... even though they claim that they didn't give the address away, but they do announce the area and it is a hint for people to find the place... it is not that hard to find the house once you know the area... you just have to drive around and find the house with lots of people and cars parked in front of it... | | | | | | |

| | I think in the circumstances the parents are really right to sue. I would have called the police at once and fired the DJ also. also I think I would have had some really harsh words for the person who called the DJ and did a shout out as that started the whole thing rolling. Three hundred guests is one thing and two thousand is a whole new ball of wax. those poor parents. I bet the next birthday party will be held someplace else. I might not even let my daughter have a party after allthat no I guess I would but not at home. | | | | | | |

| | If i were the parents I'd be livid without a doubt BUT not because of the radio station. I would be ticked off because these jackarses felt the need to crash my kids party, disrespect my home, act like idiots and not get the bloody hell out when they were told to! THAT BEING SAID though..I dont think I would really be too ticked off at the radio station since technically they didnt do anything wrong...At least not that I can see...Maybe they could've bleeped out the location and thinking about it now maybe they SHOULD HAVE bleeped it out but other than that really they didnt do anything.... Mind you if I were throwing a party for 300 guests I'd have done it way differently..For starters it'd be INVITATION ONLY! meaning you'd HAVE TO have your invitation in your hand in order to get in..SECONDLY there is NO WAY IN HELL I'd have a party that size in my home! You're just asking for trouble as far as I'm concerned....If you cna afford to entertain that many ppl then you can afford to rent a hall for the occasion which is really the best bet for many reasons. | | | | | | |
