Coffee Addiction... Could You Quit? |
| |
| If your doctor told you you must give up coffee or switch to decaf would you be able to do it? If you don't drink coffee, lets use soda instead. If you don't drink soda, lets use cigarettes instead. If you don't smoke, lets ues alcohol instead. If you don't do any of these things, how long have you been a Mormon? | | | | | |

| | My doctor told me to quit drinking coffee. And I thought I have very few pleasures in life I am not giving up. So I changed to de-caf. I could go without coffee no worries, I have done on several occassions and had no withdrawal. When people say they are addicted to coffee, I just think it is they enjoy it and do not want to give it up. Is there anything in coffee to become addicted to, I have never searched it, must do so. I do not know if caffine is addictive or not. | | | | | | |

| | I was able to change to de-caf before. I really can tell though if it is not the real thing. I can not give up coffee. It is such a part of my morning! | | | |

| | Yes you can taste the difference between normal and de caf. But it was either decaf or none at all for me. | | | |

| | Oh D! You are so very brave! Were you that lady that ran into that burning building and carried out 50 old lasdies and children on your back? Seriously D, I could not do it! It is all I drink, By the end of a few days, I'd be dead with a really bad headache! | | | |

| | It was really hard for me the first time, Curly. I had terrible headaches and felt grumpy and groggy. But, once the physical withdrawl went away, it was okay. I still craved it but I didn't feel like I was dying after the first week or so. Then I drank as much as you do now (almost). Now I don't drink as much. Today I have only had a bit less than three cups. I'll probably have one when I get home tonight, too, but I don't think I'll end up finishing the whole thing. Also, it's caffeine more than coffee for me. I like the way coffee tastes better than anything else, but heavily caffeinated soft drinks work, too. | | | |

| | While there is some agreement about withdrawal symptoms, there is disagreement about any form of addiction to caffeine. An addiction can be demonstrated by the irresistibility of regular consumption and problems created from its consumption. Caffeinated products are said to be consumed by habit, not need, and do not pose any harm to society. | | | |

| | I could probably switch to decaf coffee or soda. I do need some caffeine in the morning to get going, even on days when I get a good night's sleep. I've been cutting down on caffeinated soda by drinking flavored water in the late morning/early afternoon. Another suggestion I read was to combine fruit juice with seltzer water. I don't smoke and I only drink alcohol occasionally, so those aren't problems for me. | | | | | | |

| | I don't drink coffee, but I do drink a lot of diet pop. I often say I'm addicted to it, but I'm not too sure about that, because I have had days where I don't have any, and drink just water instead. I try to drink mostly diet pop that has no caffeine, so I think that would help ease the withdrawal symptoms. I don't smoke anymore... I quit 6 yrs ago, and started drinking a LOT more diet pop. Coffee I never liked, and alcohol I can go without if need be. Thankfully, need never be. lol. I don't know any Mormons... do you? | | | | | | |

| | I don't think I could do it. I have quit smoking quite a few times and sometimes for long periods of time (like 5 years!!) I love my coffee and I can't survive the morning without having one or two cups. But that's it, no more otherwise I will be even more hyper than normal :) | | | | | | |

| | I believe it is truly mind over matter. I have quit smoking for years at a time but have always started back up. That doesn't mean I didn't quit though. I could give up soda and coffee and alcohol and cigarettes if I absolutely had to. But I won't hear this speech from my doctor for another week and a half so until then let the coffee brew, the smoke rise and the alcohol flow :) | | | | | | |

| | How long have I been a Mormon??? hahaha....I left the Mormon Church oh lets see, at least 25 years ago. I didn't drink coffee then, but I did drink soda. I was a bad Mormon. I didn't give it up! If the doctor told me to give it up or switch to decaf, it would go in one ear and out the other, just like me having to take cholestral pills. One cup maybe just maybe a 1/2 of another is all I drink. Once in a blue moon I drink soda, I don't do alcohol or anything else. So I would ignore him for sure, unless I became alergic to it. I figure it this way, it's the only bad vise I have! Here's to a great cup of java! | | | | | | |

| | Hello cheesehater Years ago I gave up sodas for about two years just to see how I would feel doing so. I only drank juices, milk and water. I recall feeling great, physically, but then again I was very young then and I should have. Over the years I've given up sodas at various times and had good results as far as weight loss goes. There was also a very long period where I only drank sodas with no caffeine in them. I say all of this to say that at times there is nothing I like better than an ice cold Coca Cola, however, if I was told I had to give them up, I could do it. | | | | | | |

| | I had to give up coffee and let me tell you it was worse then when I quit smoking cigarettes. I had to having any caffeine when my seizures where happening often. My doctor cut out anything that might be a trigger that I could control. I did use cigarettes as the replacement at first but have long since quit smoking also. The headaches from not having caffeine were crazy. I was at the point at least once a day for about 2 weeks where I was in tears and telling people that I just wanted to rip my head off my shoulders to get rid of the pain. | | | | | | |
