500,000 Birthday Extravaganza for 2 year old |
|
That's what Tom Cruise is reportedly considering spending for his daughter Suri for her 2nd birthday. I just heard this on the radio and I'm looking for a reliable sight but not coming up with much other than tabloid sights, online But if there is any truth to it, Tom cruise is planning on spending a whopping 500,000 yest thats a 5 followd by 5 more zeros. The birthday cake that he is considering will cost almost as much as my husband makes in a year, and if the tabloids are correct, Katie does not want the overly extravagent party. When I posted online about a florida family, I thought 3,000 was bad, but this is just ummm what's the word?// Ostetatious, is that a good word Would you go to a party if invited by Tom Cruise? What would you take as a gift? Mooch

Some of that money would be well used for charitable projects, sure give her a birthday party but most birthday parties don't cost that amount, it's extravagance in the face of poverty, what message is this sending out. Just what a selfish society we live in.

3. wolfie34 (10251) | 5 months ago | Ostentatious? That's a very polite way of putting it Mooch! Some people have more money than sense, and it's always the big I am! And trying to impress and boast that they have money to burn, with so many people starving in this world, it's a sham, sorry but I certainly wouldn't go to his party, not because I am not a socializer but it's because I am NOT a hypocrite. His child will grow up spoilt and will never know the true meaning of money or what it is to be poor!

5. MooPile (1334) | 5 months ago | I couldn't afford to bring her a gift unless I was a movie star like Tom Cruise. That kid's probably got everything under the sun and nothing we could afford would be "good" enough. As for would I go? Probably. Whether he's nuts or not remains to be seen, but I'd enjoy going to an event where he and Katie were. And I'm Catholic too, so Katie and I could talk about that and how she left it behind to be a nutjob...I mean a scientologist.

7. mummymo (10354) | 5 months ago | If that is true it is totally ridiculous and yes ostentatious is a very apt word for it! I cannot comprehend spending so much on a childs birthday party - any party for that matter - especially a child who will never remember it! No I don't think I would want to go - far too showy for me! xxx

8. zeloguy (1974) | 5 months ago | I was just watching a program on CNBC about the former CEO of Tyco who threw a birthday party that cost 2.2MM. I think that half a million is a lot of money as well but I think it could be a lot more lavish than that... a LOT more. As for the word ostantatious... that really is not the right word... I believe you are looking for a word like flamboyant or maybe even pretentious... the word ostentatious usually has a underlying meaning of gaudiness to it like you are putting someone down... 'an ostantatious ring' or something of the like... where there is a jealousy or something of the sort. Thanks Zelo

9. 4monsters4me (2026) | 5 months ago | I wouldn't be surprised if that was true. Tom Cruise is completely insane. My youngest daughter will be 2 in 2 weeks and how much do I plan to spend? Let's see: cake mix and frosting: about $2 presents: about $60 (maybe a little more, not sure yet but she is getting a toy kitchen) decorations: probably $0 but I might get her some streamers and balloons lunch: $50 (her food is free at Red Robin but that is what we will spend on everyone else--parents and 3 siblings) pictures: $60 so in total her birthday is going to cost me about $170 total. I don't see a point in big parties. We celebrate all of our kids' birthdays the same--they get to pick where we have lunch, they get out of chores for the day, I make them the cake/cupcakes of their choice and they get a gift or two (depending on how much money we have). That is it. If the weather is nice we might go to the zoo, otherwise we find a movie and watch it (my middle daughter picked pizza at home and a movie for her birthday dinner--she turned 5). I really can't even wrap my head around $500,000. My husband made like $32k last year--he supports a family of 6 on that. It kind of makes me sick hearing wealthy people spending that kind of money on something trivial when we struggle to make sure the kids have enough food to eat every week.

10. sarahruthbeth22 (6976) | 5 months ago | I am not into little kids so I would send a hand made gift for Suri if I were invited.Tom Cruise has more money than the average father of a 2 year old. he didn't steal his money. I mean he earned it honestly so he should be able to do whatever he wants with it.This is his first biological child and he wants to spoil her so why not have a huge party?
