getting onion smell off your hands |
|
I made a meatoaf last night and i used a half an onion, and now more than 24 hours later my hands still smell like onion.
How can I get this onion smell off my hands?
I'm afraid anything I touch will smell like onions, I don't mind the smell when I am cooking with them but ot linger long past the time I've cooked with them sometimes up to 5 days, it just drives me nuts.
Any good advice? Mooch

I guarantee you that they'll once again smell like your own hands and not at all like onions. Lemon juice can eliminate loads of odors you pick up cooking. Try it to combat seafood and garlic odors, too.

3. Ravenladyj (18001) | 2 years ago | vinager!! rub your hands with vinegar then wash them like you usually do...I do it all the time when handling onions and it works like a dream for me...also when you cut onions on a cutting board or counter vinegar works the same for that too I've found

4. above31rubies (1402) | 2 years ago | You can also rub your hands on a stainless steel spoon under running warm water...like the spoon is a small bar of soap. Sounds weird, I know.

Bethany1202 (2178) | 2 years ago | Yes, I've also heard this helps. I always forget to try it, though. I usually just wash my hands with soap and water a couple times and don't really mind the mild lingering smell of onion.

| Rhoadan (34) | 2 years ago | If you've ever seen those onion bar things in the housewares department or housewares specialty stores like Linen 'n Things or Bed, Bath and Beyond; they work on the same principle and might be a bit easier to handle. Also, having a dedicated object might be easier to remember.
I've also heard of people just rubbing their hands on the faucet. Of course this only works if the faucet is stainless steel. Some of the ones that double as sprayers aren't.

6. queenofarms (1344) | 2 years ago | I know what you're saying. I use to work in a restuarant. I'd come home everyday with this onion smell on my hands. I'd use lemon juice and the smell would disappear. I have also heard mint leaves removes the smell also.

You can try soak your hands in the milk for a while, the milk might get rid of it.I drink milk to get rid of the smell of garlic afer eating it. If that didn't help, there another tip your can try. Wash your hands with tea wate, the stronger the better. Hope my advice can help you.

8. stephcjh (22850) | 2 years ago | You can wash your hands in lemon juice and it will take the onion smell off of them. If you do not have that, then you can mix a little bit of bleacj water and rinse your hands with that also to get the smell off. I would not recommend it though if your hands are sensitive.

GardenGerty (20428) | 2 years ago | I had never heard that term, but you are right. People who eat strongly flavored foods such as onion, garlic and curry often will have that odor about them. You also will have this on your breath, not from your mouth, but from your stomach.
