Examples of what I eat for snacks....peanut butter & crackers, peanut butter & graham crackers, cottage cheese & fruit, popcorn and string cheese, fresh fruit with peanut butter, 1/2 PB sandwich.....cheese crackers, so any other ideas out there????Please have something new to eat. I think if I eat another spoon of peanut butter I will croak...UGH!

I don't really have any snack ideas off the top of my head but I'm a diabetic also and found some great and simple diabetic recipe ideas off recipezaar.com. Just type diabetic snack in the search box

Hello. While I am not a diabetic myself, I help with diabetic teaching as a nurse. I also teach nursing and one of the topics which I am responsible for teaching is diabetes. As you probably know, you are supposed to have some carbs and some protein in your snack. The reason you have been told to eat peanut butter or cheese is that they contain some protein. Protein keeps the blood sugar on an even keel rather than causing rises and dips like sugar. If you like yogurt you can have 8 ounces of lowfat yogurt with a slice of whole wheat toast. Another idea is to have 8 oz of low fat milk with some graham crackers. Some people like to take a 6 inch tortilla and grate 1/4 cup of low fat cheese on it and then toast it! Hope these help!

I'm glad to be of assistance! Best of luck to you and feel free to call on me anytime! Oh, and by the way, the toritilla that I mentioned should really be the low fat/whole grain variety.

Thanks so much for your help, I am having yogurt tonight with a piece of whole wheat toast....You are a gem and I am glad I found you!
Now you got any place on the web I can go and snag some good yummy low carb recipes. I have hit a few, and found some, but I need another site or two.
I went to DLife and ADA site.....know of anymore???

I would google 'South Beach Diet Recipes' and 'Atkins Diet Recipes...as both low carb. The Atkins diet is totally low carb and the South Beach Diet is based on 'good' versus 'bad' carbs.

A favorite recipe place that I use is at this link: it has low carb recipes!

Here is a link to a board of South Beach dieters and their recipe thread: http://www.southbeach-die...

I just want to thank you for posting these sites. My grandfather just found out that he has type 2 diabetes and he is having me look for food and information about these. Thanks again.

How about hummus or something else with beans/lentils in it. Maybe Minestrone soup with beans in it, or pasta salad with beans...maybe these aren't good for nighttime, what about cereals that have nuts in them? You can buy ground almonds and sprinkle them on some cereal/oatmeal, Hmm...sorry I can't think of anything else.

Yes cereal sounds good, amd the oatmeal does too....maybe I will try these...Thanks!

Mostly peanut butter...it's great. Also cheese, fruit, crackers, nuts, anything along those lines. I've also learned a trick if you want to eat sweet treats like M&M's...I drink a full bottle of water while eating them. The water helps your body process them faster so the sugar doesn't have as much time to absorb as it normally does.

I eat cheese and fruits for a snack but crackers make my sugar go up. I like the idea about the water and m&ms.Going to try it.

There are times when I really need a sweet treat and the only way I can seem to have them is with lots of water. Ice cream is another thing I love but very hazardous for me so I mix it half ice cream and half milk...it makes it less sweet.

I was diagnosed 4 months ago and I'm having a hard time with this as well. I can't have peanut butter because my son is allergic and I won't have it in the house. I usually end up having cheese and crackers or cinnamon toast. I hate eating right before I go to bed and it seems like a chore to me.
