Things and Stuff..How much is TOO MUCH??? With the recent state of the Economy and lack of jobs and the all around down turn, do you find yourself re-thinking about the stuff you own, How much of it is Un-necessary???? I often think before cell phones, dvd's, computers, gameing consoles, all you can eat buffets, fancy cars, designer clothing, etc. the list goes on, people and familites were HAPPIER!!!! We have people telling us daily we NEED this stuff but NOT REALLY. I think the urge to WANT and NEED is what is turning this world into the shambles that it is!! What do you think??

Everything that surrounds you should make you happy. If its attached to sad memories, its too much. Some items can be stored if you can't bear to part with them but they shouldn't be hanging out in the open to torture your mind.
Everything needs to have a purpose. If it doesn't have a use or special meaning, then its too much.
When you bring anything new in, something old should be removed. This keeps the balance. Otherwise, you end up with too much.
I like to keep life simple. Though I love my laptop, internet, cell phone (just for emergencies) my digital camera, washing machine, and dish washer, they make my life more simple. Again, if it serves a purpose I think its okay...
We recently bought a 97 yukon truck and I'm feeling on top of the world. That means that I now have full use of our car (also a 90 something) and can take my daughter on field trips and outings more often.
I've been without. It is a struggle. I would never want too much. Right now, I have just enough. Yesterday my sister blessed me with a great set of pots and pans. I'm putting my old set out. Who needs 2 sets in a tiny kitchen? not me!

created equal but each and every single person is also different. Everyone wants
to be happy but everyone also has a different view of happiness. To one, happy is
being at home with 15 family members. To another happy is being at work
delegating tasks. Another person's happiness comes from performing in front of an
audience.
Technology has not neccessarily made the human race unhappy but the
marketing of technology has created a un-natural desire for Things and Stuff.
Things and Stuff are becoming drugs. Unfortunately we are becoming addicted to
Things and Stuff. WANTS ARE THE NEW NEEDS! WHAT DO YOU NEED?

4. dragon54u (9544) | 2 years ago | How funny that I should find this discussion right now! I like to listen to the 1920's radio network when I'm working or playing at my computer and they just finished a commercial from the 40's about cutting down on un-needed purchases because of the war back then (WWII). There were lots of those commercials, imploring people to re-use their old things instead of buying new ones.
Now we're at the opposite extreme!
I'm a re-use, recycle or make do person. I find comfort in things I've used for a long time and while I like new things I don't like to spend the money!

| 5. geishagirl (24) | 2 years ago | I just recently read about the Container Theory http://www.stretcher.com/stories/08/08feb11d.cfm and have been on a purging spree. It is amazing to me how much stuff I amass when left unchecked. I live in a large house for just two people, and we literally have two rooms that are just storing things. I have a fear of fire, and cry a little to think about all the stuff i would lose if my house was to burn. Not so much anymore, because a lot of the stuff that I had was because i could not get rid of it!!
