Pay before you pump your gas.... |
|
One more little inconvenience. At the beginning of the month a new law went into effect in my province. When getting fuel for your car you have to prepay. You can pay at the pump and it makes it easier. But if you want to pay cash you have to guess how much it will cost to fill the tank. Then you go back to the car and pump the gas. If you have overpaid it is back into the store for your change. Now we have lineups to the doors and the staff doing twice the work and probably for no more money that they were making. The reason for all this started when a gas jockey who tried to stop a gas and dash was dragged to his death. Now I feel for this gas jockey and his family but....why should a whole province be inconvenienced for this? Do you have to prepay for fuel where you live?

Mostly I pay at the pump anyway because it's easier with the kids but it would be a huge pain if I had to prepay and couldn't do it at the pump...unload three kids, go into the store, wait in line, take three kids back out, load back into carseats, pump gas, unload three kids again to go back into store because I probably guessed wrong when I paid, wait in line some more, go back out, load into carseats again...ugh!

2. jtr115 (689) | 2 years ago | I'm not sure if it's a state law, but most (if not all) gas stations in Colorado require prepayment. There is a law which states anyone who drives off without paying for gas will lose his driver's license.
One law I feel is an inconvenience (Colorado doesn't have it, but a few other states do) prohibits people from pumping their own gas. I read a blog entry from someone who almost ran out of gas while driving through Oregon to California because of this law and because she couldn't find a gas station that was open overnights.

whywiki (3100) | 2 years ago | Wow lose their license that is pretty intense. I think it would really annoy me if I had to wait for someone to pump my gas every time.

3. queenofarms (1344) | 2 years ago | Here where I live its been in affect for a long time. I guess ever since gas prices started skyrocketing. Here is to stop drive offs.
But I know what you mean it is a hassle. Thats why I just use my credit card.

whywiki (3100) | 2 years ago | I tried to pay at the pump at the Shell station here with my debit card and it kept saying see attendant. I tried three times before I gave up and went in. Turns out those pumps automatically try and do $100 prepay and if you have less that $100 in your account it doesn't work. On this dy I had $99 in my account! I only wanted $20 worth as it was hubby's van! Took me at least 20minutes to get fuel. I was not impressed!

queenofarms (1344) | 2 years ago | Well that would pee me off too. They need to rework their pumps to accomadate us poor people that don't have 100.00 in our accts.

4. whittby (2039) | 2 years ago | Yes we prepay. What we do is slide the credit card into the pump and wait for authorization before we can begin pumping the gas. We still do have certain stations that will let us pump first if we are paying cash, but not too many. I think the gas and dash has become more common or else the companies just don't trust us!... ...whit

5. BCMike (3316) | 2 years ago | I share the same province with you but I like the law. The gas-n-dash law, provides store owners with an element of protection from theft and clerks with an element of protection from the abuse by owners over gas runs. The clerks do get some abuse over the cash first thing, but in our community, that will change as soon as the new pay at the pumps arrive. There aren't any here. And for most businesses, 95% of the business is done with debit cards now anyway. So for cash business, maybe there is still full serve pumps available. Super Save Gas still serves up here in Prince George down town. Maybe that will work for you.

whywiki (3100) | 2 years ago | I drive a propane vehicle and that is a nightmare to fuel up. I didn't used to mind the van cause I could still pump the gas and be gone fast. Now it just takes longer and the older I get the less patience I have! Yesterday I went to get propane and they have to pump it for you these days. So this girl comes out she is maybe 16 years old. I have been pumping propane before she was born and so I tell her it has an automatic shutoff and you don't need to bleed it. Well oh no, you have to have it open it's the law. So I shut up. Then she says I have to go inside and prepay. How I could take off with the hose attached to my car is beyond me but ok I'm game. I go inside to prepay and the guy inside says how much was it? I say I don't know she said I had to prepay. Well that's stupid says the guy. Tell me about it I say. So there I stood waiting for her to fill the car so I could pay. Now I am thoroughly confused! Next time, hubby fuels the beast! I am ranting and not making sense but that's okay....I just wish I could pull in, fuel up and be on my way without all these rules.

whywiki (3100) | 2 years ago | How about when you are in line at a store and the power goes off and they have to get a calculator out to add up two items because they never had to add without one!
| |
|
|
BCMike (3316) | 2 years ago | I have no patience for that stuff. When I become premier, there will be no computers and no calculators in any grade up to and including grade 7. There will be no spell check. There will be spelling bee's. There will be grammar taught. Children will know how to add, subtract, multiply and divide, manually. WITH A PENCIL,PEN or their fingers and toes. BUT THEY WILL KNOW HOW TO DO THIS. They will be able to read, print and write. Essays will be done in pen and ink. Stupid kids are not. Adults are. adults are stupid for letting the BCTF get away with this junk for too long. The kids WILL know the ten provinces, and the three territories and their capital cities. They will be able to identify the provinces on a silhouette showing provincial boundaries. The kids will know what the name of Canada's capital city is and where it is located (what province). Pro-D days will be grouped together and attendance by teachers will manditory as a condition of employment. Reasonable allowances will be made for compassionate reasons.
But at the end of all this, the number of numbskulls being cranked out will be reduced significantly.

6. babystar1 (3159) | 2 years ago | Where I live in kansas we do have some of the gas stations that you also have to prepay. But its usually late in the evenings when you have to do it. I think its because late at night people that get gas drive off and dont pay for it.

babystar1 (3159) | 2 years ago | How much is your gas a gallon where you are from?
| |
|
|
whywiki (3100) | 2 years ago | We used to have it at night after certain hours at certain stations and that was fine by me, I just get tired of all the wasted time waiting in lines. Our gas is at $1.18 a litre I think that is around $5 a gallon but not sure as I don't feel like doing math!
| |
|
|
BCMike (3316) | 2 years ago | If you take our per liter price and multiply it times four, you are about as close to the US price as dag nabbit is to cussing. we are about $4.80 per US gallon right now for regular gas and $5 per US gallon for diesel. That's just in case you Americans are feeling a bit hard done by.

7. KrisNY (7347) | 2 years ago | I live in the states-- and its the same here--- Except you don't overpay-- You just pay what you want to put in. I always pay by debit/credit card.. so it makes no difference to me- I think they changed it here (it's not a law-- just the individual gas stations get to decide)--- because so many people were mad about the prices and drove off-- without paying. It stops this now--

8. Darkwing (7519) | 2 years ago | No, we don't have pre-paid fuel in England yet, but I would imagine it would make life very difficult, both for the driver and the attendants. Unless, of course, somebody comes up with a way of regulating the fuel emitted when pre-paying. If a pump can be regulated in this way, and cut off at the exact amount paid, then it would be a much more effective commodity.
Brightest Blessings.

elmiko (1793) | 2 years ago | Our area also has to prepay. Personally I think its good because some people steal. The gas would be higher if it wasn't for prepay and we don't want that.
