voters rights for ex-felons  email this discussion to a friend?

You know, if we'd just kill all the killers and rapists and murderers and all, we wouldn't have to worry about their voting rights anyway. Plus wouldn't have to clothe, feed and shelter them at enormous taxpayer expense. And that'd be a good deterrent for others; if we were hanging all these people, others would think REAL HARD before they did it. Face it; we pretty much coddle anybody sent to prison. What happened to the chain gang and the rock pile? Since we started worrying about "prisoner's rights" crime has been on the rise. Why do we do this? Did they worry about their victims rights when they committed their crime? I could rant and rave about this all day, and have every right to. I'm a convicted felon. I KNOW we're being too easy on them. If I'd have had to have busted rocks 12 hours a day 7 days a week the first time I got in trouble, I could guarantee there would never have been a second time. Okay...done ranting for now. Next!!!

you know that is a good point, i know some states have the prisons producing license plates, and i believe road cleaning crews. but there certainly isnt anything like a chain gang anymore.
what is there to do in prison, watch tv and work out. or try to earn good behavior time with working in the kitchens or laundry right?

we should put them to work harvesting the seasonal crops or something. ppl complain about the illegal immigrants that are working our fields (and other places but the fields is probably the most removed from the general public for a convict lol)

nobody wants to pick the cotton or broccoli for the amount of money that is payed...put the convicts into a broccoli-gang if there arent any big rocks we need broken up by hand around lol!

but i guess it would cost more money to provide extra guards wouldnt it..in the long run im sure cheaper than what is spent now i bet.

you say the rapists and murders though..thats higher levels of security, there would probably be a huge outcry from the surrounding area of where the gang was working.

therefore we should put them all in those zapping dog collars LOL! images of The Running Man come to mind!

The dog collar images had me rolling! But yeah; we need to do something about it. No one can come up with a good solution, and I fear there isn't one. The best solution I know of begins at home with raising the child to be a decent member of society, but in many places trying to discipline your child winds up being called child abuse. The old saying "spare the rod and spoil the child" appears to have come true.

Well,I have never liked seeing people on death row for years (and sometimes decades).I DO believe in speeding the system up so after all the legal processes have been done, then the date is set and finished.I also believe that prisoners with life sentences should be allowed the choice of to stay in jail FOR LIFE or to be put out of their misery.Again, this will set some examples for some PLUS open up some space in the over crowded prisons.

I do not understand though how someone can get a life sentence and then be out 12-15 years later??

I believe once a person has been found guilty of a crime, they have lost certain rights until such time their "debt" has been paid.

An idea might be for prisoners to do jobs and are paid according to what ehy do.The money would be "banked' for the prisoner until his/her fines etc are paid off and they have paid for their stay in jail.

I also believe in the tooth fairy,so we know where in reality I am.

Reality is only relative to the state of mind you're in; usually with me, it's the state of confusion.

I don't agree with the death penalty, but, I think your idea of the rock pile is a good one. It's been proven the death penalty is not a deterrant to crime. I think some really hard labour might do the trick though.

I can respect your view on the death penalty, BUT someone that's dead isn't going to be released in 10 years to do it again, which does happen all too often. I am somewhat radical at times though; I've wanted to hang people for parking violations. lol
