Has anyone travelled Belize? |

I am interested in travelling Belize but I've heard there are safety concerns. What can you tell me.

Belize city is suppose to be the worse but I was wondering about the Ambergris Cay. I'm hoping it may be better in that area.

3. maximax8 (10734) | 2 years ago | I went to Mexico, Belize and Guatemala in 2006. I felt perfectly safe in Belize but had a few concerns about safety in Guatemala. A bus was traveling Tikal and then an armed robbery took place. I heard that sometimes people come over the border and mug people. However I stayed really safe and although I carefully packed my money in five different places I didn't get robbed. My guide book said to be careful in Belize City after dark. I think Caye Caulker, Bullet Tree Falls and Orange Walk were safe areas. I would say that Belize in one of the safest countries that I have been to and I loved it there.

| passionfalcon (59) | 2 years ago | Well that's good to hear. I did hear of a bus load of travellers was robbed there. I didn't hear of the place or how long ago it might have happened. I still want to go anyway. But I do like to travel the countryside. I'm not the hang around the hotel type. Honduras is an interesting place too. We stayed out at the Fantasy Island resort there. Driving around the island (Roatan) was an eye opener. There is real poverty there. The capital is a town called Coxin-hole...shows you the extremes. From Coxin-hole to West end which is a funky little area on the west coast. A real party area. Most islands are like that I guess. Extreme wealthy to the extreme poor.
