Have You Ever Run Out of Gas While Driving?

Yes, I have...And its so funny, a friend and I used to run out so much that we had it down to a science. We even knew the sound the car would make before we were running out. We could even judge how far we could go until we had to get gas again.

I did not have such an encounter so far as I always make it a point to maintain a 75% full policy. This is because of my experience with a leakage from the gas tank by accident during a long drive for my holidays. Having gone through the feeling of anxiety and abandonment was enough for me. May sound like a control freak here, but I feel we should be safe than sorry here.

only once. when my father had a 59 dodge his gas tank indicator was broke and i was on a date with my girlfriend from Indiana (I went to Tri State College in Angola Indiana) and we were coming back from the date and my father's car ran out of gas a few miles from home so I called my folks and they had my brother come with some gas as he had a gas station and a tow truck business. My folks were very angry that I ran out of gas but I never took there car again without filling it up...and since then I always make sure my gas tank goes not get below a quarter of a tank unless i am on a trip..its not good for the car to let the gas run out plus its dangerous to drive through some areas and break down.

Yes i have. i have done that a few times.Some time i am so busy i dont think to look at the gas. Then i have to call my husband and listen to him b##ch! LOL

no....no chance...as my car runs on petrol.............

YES AND IT ABSOLUTELY RAPED MY CAR. IT DIED THE SAME DAY EVEN AFTER I FILLED IT UP. so now im currently looking for a motor to swap in it lol

When I was learning how to drive, I just drove and drove my car until it ran out. People (parents, driving instructor) taught me everything except to check the gas gage and how to fill it up. Luckily it was a beautiful day out.

You know, I have run out of gas while driving. I actually had it down to a specific schedule. Every morning I would stop at the gas station and get $5.00 of gas (plus a coffee and roll). I would drive 58 miles to work; 58 miles home. I did this 5 days a week.

If I had to make extra trips around town and auch, it would throw everthing off.

I have even had to do the turn the steering wheel back and forth to slosh the gas around to have enough to get to the cash station. LOL

IN MY DEFENSE: My gas gauge was broken, so it always read empty.

LOL!!

This was around 1996... when you could get a few gallons of gas for $5!

I ran out of gas a few times.

Once i was lucky and I ran out just as i coasted up to the gas pumps (not a harrowing experience)

Another time I had had a fuel pump in my car replaced. Knowing the tank was over half full when i took the car in...I checked the gauge to see if they put the same amount back into the tank after working on it...went wow they filled it right up. And started to drive home. Didnt even make it a mile and Had to walk back to the dealership because my car quit. Needless to say they hadnt put my gas back in and they had screwed up my gas gauge. So They took a WEEK to fix their own error then told me i had to pay for it. I refused to pay to fix their error..and I've never taken my car back to them.

Other than that Ive run the farm trucks out of gas in the summer because they have bad gauges but no biggie we have cell phones and dad has a huge tank in the back of a grain truck to drive gas/deisel out to tractors and trucks.
