I am not a baby anymore! | | I am 21 years old already. I am graduating college this year. And it is so unfair when my parents still do not let me go out of town overnights. It is so unfair. They rarely let me go. They are being unfair. Other kids get to go overnight without that much of a hassle. Sometimes I just wanna lie on where I am going. I am not laughing anymore.

Daffodil20 (759) | 2 years ago | its the same with me too!..even my parents are over-caring and over-possesive, but they hardly seem to realise that! moreover, whenever i try to discuss it with them, they always twist the topic and say that i am very careless and i don't keep my room clean. now the biggest scientist also cannot corelate the two things, that is what has my room being dirty got to do with my not being fit for a night stay alone?..actually the thing is that our parents think we are still small kids, and yet another reason is that they love us a lot and are soo attached to us that they don't want to leave us alone!

It is kinda irritating because some of my friends are graduating already so we have planned a lot of outings. I do not think I can attend out of town overnights. Sheesh.

| gofourtech (26) | 2 years ago | I am not asking my parents to leave me alone. I just want them to see that I want a break from all the stress at school and at home. I mean, we rarely go out of town because we are saving money ever since my dad retired. This outing is different though. I was invited by my friend's family. So if ever there is something I will spend, it will be of little amount only. I do not think no matter how old I am, I can face the world on my own. Never thought of it. I just want my parents to just sometimes let me enjoy. They do not understand what it is being a teenager.

| gofourtech (26) | 2 years ago | I think it is because we are all girls in the family. But sometimes I feel it is favoritism. But I do not really want to think that way. But you know, they can't keep me at home forever.>< There will be a day that they should understand and realize that I am an adult already.

I can understand their worries because people your age aren't quite completely mature and do often make bad judgments. Still, most parents realize that there isn't much they can do but hope their son or daughter doesn't make any bad choices that could cause serious consequences.
You must be a very decent person to go along with your parents' telling you whether you can go somewhere.
When parents try to have too much say in what grown kids do they do, essentially, make kids feel they have to lie.
I suppose you should try to be patient, since you're graduating college soon. Then plan to find a roommate and move out.

| gofourtech (26) | 2 years ago | You know what you are right. Sometimes I just want to lie. I already did but I was not comfortable with it. I want my parents to know that they can trust me, so I try to really tell them the truth to where I am going.
Yeah I am planning to move out actually. But not after I graduate. I need to find someone and I also need to rake in some cash.:)

| | 5. chiyosan (9195) | 2 years ago | Well, you are acting like a baby right now ranting over your strict parents.:) he he kidding aside, just be honest with your parents let them know how you feel about the whole thing. My mom was like your parents... imagine me at 26 and is already working, she always wants to know what i do and where i am at... i guess parents care is genuine and they just want what is best for us. never ever neglect their concern for you. And Never Lie. What if something bad happens to you? they will not know where you are going... or where to find you.
Sometimes parents are just over protective. Show them you are trustworthy and you will be fine. okay? if you need to talk i am here.:)
